I have gotten a remarkable decrease in razor bumps and ingrown hairs as a result of using shower gloves (google them if you don't know what they are). They look really lame so I keep them hidden when not in use, but they work wonders. Make sure to use them in the shower with liquid soap otherwise they may be too harsh. The first few uses they will be too smooth, but after you break them in (the bristles on your head will roughen them up) they will do the best job of exfoliating your head, which means scrape away old skin so it doesn't build up, clog pores and trap hairs under the skin. Do this every day or as often as you bathe, even if you don't shave. You can even use them on your entire body, replacing the scrunchy or "Axe Tool". Best of luck
I prefer shower gloves to those scrunchy things and loofahs because they are easier to maneuver and you don't miss spots - they're your hands after all!
Another thing I do to reduce irritation is soak my razor in alcohol between uses, but I think most people already know to use a clean razor for each shave.
