Funny you are mentioning mothers and their reaction.. Mine was rather vehemently against my being Sly before I went back for the family reunion this summer. She kept saying if I have hair I should not be shaving my head.
After arriving, she actually thought it looks good and can see why I am shaving it.
It was definitely a nice surprise turn-around. I was expecting plenty of comments while I was there.
My Dad made fun of me and called me "skinhead" when I first showed him my dome. He was also Mr MPB reporter, reporting to me the process of follicular health upon each semester visit. My tactful mother told me "it doesn't look too bad."
Now every time I visit (for the last two years), the old man's horsheshoe is buzzed closer each time and he says he's "cool" now because some of the young guys at the gym he goes to are sly. My mother now buzzes his head with no guard.
So sometimes parents come around.
