Posting on Sly Bald Guys with IE8
« on: November 08, 2009, 06:09:39 PM »
I've noticed that I cannot use the text box for making a post when using Internet Explorer 8 on this website.  If the text (like what I'm typing now) is big enough that it requires a scrollbar on this text field then things go to hell.  It's like the window will bounce between being scrolled to the bottom and positioned at the top while typing and it basically makes it impossible to do anything.  Replying to a post that automatically fills this box with the prior post really causes the problem to show up.

I was curious if anyone else knows about this.  I think this is an IE bug because I think I've seen this on other sites, and because IE is a Microsoft product.  I've finally come to the point where I've decided my next computer will be a Mac.  I know the entire software industry is plagued with an attitude of indifference towards bugs, but I think it's especially bad at Microsoft.  It's time to go to the "dark side" and see if things really are better over there.  I can't even use a freaking Quicktime file in Windows Media Player or Windows Movie Maker for crying out loud.

My version of IE is 8.0.6001.18828
Microsoft Vista SP1

I have used IE8 for quite a while with no problems. Maybe it's your computer.

I'm not really a good authority on anything from MS as I use either Google Chrome (when I have to use Windoze) or FireFox on Linux. But I will say that I have never had a problem with either browser when submitting a post.

Rusty, what's your resolution set to?  I've tried it with IE 8 and I haven't seen any problems or seen any reports of this on the forum for this forum.
People are not limited by the circumstance that they are born in. They are limited by the size of their dreams. Show them that their dreams can have no limits and in turn their accomplishments can be limitless.

1280 x 800, 32 bit color
I generally don't have IE at that size though because I usually have it as a smaller 1/2 to 1/3 screen window.

All you have to do is fill up this message box with enough text that the scrollbar appears.  Just grab some text from any window here and paste it in and then try to type text to the end of the box.  As you type the window will bounce back and forth from the top to the bottom.  The box vibrates back and forth between scrolled to the top and to the bottom.  You can edit your text, but it's so difficult to see what's happening it's not worth it.

I don't remember if this was 100% reproducible, but I just opened IE to another website and tested this and the bug did not occur.

I really believe this to be an IE bug.
