Things that annoy me:

* People who drive too damn slow.

* People who continue to sit at a stop a second or so after the light turns green.

* Coming to a complete stop on the highway before making a right-hand turn onto a side road or parking lot.  These people should have their licenses revoked.

* Making a right-hand turn from your lane instead of pulling off onto the shoulder to make the turn.

* Bicycle riders who think their bikes are cars.  Roads are for cars.  Stay on the sidewalk.

* Bicycle riders who go out of their way to be obnoxious.  Some roads will have bike lanes, but where do most riders insist on riding?  Directly on top of the line separating the car lane from the bike lane.  I really think it kills these people that a special bike lane prevents them from directly interfering with traffic so they ride as close as they can to the cars to be as annoying as they can be.

- Texting
- Women applying their makeup and using their rear view mirror to do it.
- Someone trying to do both.

But if they are using a hand mirror or the mirror on their visor it's OK?   :*))

I remember the day Neal Boortz was talking about this issue and mentioned that the technical term for painting one's face with cosmetics is "farding".  So what you are saying is that you hate it when women fard in the car.

Tailgating doesn't bother me for a couple reasons.  The first is that the purpose of being on the road is to get from Point A to Point B.  With so many people driving like snails anymore, I think it's nice to encounter someone who actually wants to get to Point B.

The other reason I like them is that when you let them pass they are likely to drive faster than the flow of traffic and be seen as a more profitable target by a tax collector needing to fill his monthly ticket quota.

Since I now live a mile from work in a town of under 100,000, the commute is pretty benign.  However we had a light coating of snow a few days back which made the streets extremely slippery.  People were driving their normal speed and sliding all over the place.  45 accidents reported by 9:30 am.  Because of them trying to hurry, everyone was late.

Not sure if this is the right thread for this, but with the days getting shorter we're soon commuting in the dark:  Those damn xenon headlights (you know the ones,,,the super-bright blue headlights that blind you whether they're in front of you or behind you).  There's been enough complaints about them that I hope they're taken off the market soon.

There may be some residents who disagree but when I lived in Minneapolis, I was always amazed at how polite the majority of drivers were for being in a city of over 2 million....even notice it now when I go back to visit.  What they say about "Minnesota Nice" must be true.

Tailgaiters by far.
The speed limit is the speed limit. If I'm travelling at the speed limit and a driver has to tailgate me until I become intimidated enough to pull over (not likely) perhaps he should wake up a half hour earlier so he can get to work on time.
The speed limit is called that for a reason. It applies in all the lanes.....EVEN THE FAST ONE! It doesn't mean that you can play bumper tag with me until I accept your suppositions that A) your penis is bigger than mine and B) where you're going is more important in the overall scheme of things than where I'm going.
Wake up earlier, leave the house on time, and cooperate with the rest of us humans.
Remember, if you're the second car in line the responsibility for a rear end collision is yours, no two ways about it. Check the law as it pertains to "following too closely". It doesn't matter if the car in front of you is going 20 mph under the limit, it's still your fault if you hit him.

In my area, the biggest problem I have with drivers is at a 4 ways stop sign intersection. When the first person proceeds through the intersection, the car right behind him will tailgate him through the stop.  Can't tell you how many times I have had to panic stop to avoid an accident.  Is time saved worth a possible injury?

Then how come cars are made that can go faster than the speed limit??  ???

And, most police officers won't pull you over unless you are doing more than 10 MPH over the posted limit.  And most multilane roads have posted signs that state:  "Slower Traffic Keep Right".  AND, most police officers that I know will pull you over if you are impeding the flow of traffic by going at or less than the speed limit in the left lane because you are not "in the act of passing".

You can complain all you want about people tailgating you in the left lane, but who's the bigger *&^%$%&(**& ?  And by the license plate in your signature, I know the answer to that...   :px

It's really funny to me that drivers in all the states surrounding Wisconsin complain about Wisconsin drivers!!  Must be that cheeseheads are so much better at driving than Michigan, Minnesota, Illinois, and Iowa drivers... RIGHT!!!!   :/O

I can't say much on the tailgating thing, since that's the norm around here and I do it...

However, my biggest one is the morons that think they have to self-impose the speed limit in the fast lane...  When cars are screaming past you on the right, it means it's time to move over!

"Just because you can drive in the left lane doesn't mean you should"  - BaldRob

We now have a law in Louisiana that provides that the left lane is for passing, and there's a $100 fine for hanging out in the left lane if the right lane(s) is(are) available.  There are exceptions, right hand lane congestion, etc.  but at least it's a start, if they enforce it.  Louisiana is a state with a reputation for ignoring laws rather than obeying them, but our state police are pretty fair.  I'm hoping.

We have the same law here in Illinois also...  It's not enforced much in the Chicago area due to the heavy amount of daily traffic, but they enforce it pretty hard downstate though!

Rusty, I'm a bike geek, so let me chime in. My pet peeve is drivers who have a problem with the idea that they need to accommodate other people, whether that's another car, someone on a bike or someone crossing the street.
* Making a right-hand turn from your lane instead of pulling off onto the shoulder to make the turn.
This is really annoying when people don't know how to deal with bike lanes.  The dashed line means you are supposed to pull into the bike lane before making a right turn.  This lets the bikes pass you on the left.  Unless you're reckless about it, nobody is going to ride into you.  I am not going to ride to the right of a car with its right turn signal on.  Too many bad stories.
* Bicycle riders who think their bikes are cars.  Roads are for cars.  Stay on the sidewalk.
I know it sucks to be trapped in a car while watching other people who are free and having fun. Roads were paved originally for bicycles, actually.  (Before bike tires, they were gravel and wood and dirt which was OK for stage coaches and the like.)  Riding on the sidewalk is illegal in most places.  Drivers and their vehicles need to be licensed and registered.
Some bicyclists are obnoxious, I agree.  On the other hand, debris often ends up the bike lane, and it's not the kind of thing you can see from a car.  In some places, the bike lane is so narrow that there is nowhere to go if a parked car opens its door.   In California and everywhere else I'm aware of, cyclists are not forced to ride in an unsafe lane.  Drivers and cyclists are looking for completely different hazards, but why assume a bike rider is trying to annoy you?  Believe me, the last thing I want to do is to set off somebody's road rage, but I'd rather have someone honk at me instead of risk that they didn't see me at all.

I suppose the other problem is with the helmets, you can't tell which of us are your SLY friends  ;) but there are a lot of us out there, so a little patience and space helps!

The speed limit is the speed limit. If I'm travelling at the speed limit and a driver has to tailgate me until I become intimidated enough to pull over (not likely) perhaps he should wake up a half hour earlier so he can get to work on time.

I tend to simply grumble privately when someone drives at a speed limit on a road with an arbitrarily low limit because I know it makes sense to avoid tickets (i.e. driving taxes), but when someone is driving below it I will make my annoyance known to a degree representing the rudeness of the person I'm following.

For example, on my way home tonight I was on a 70MPH 4 lane highway (BTW is it 4 lanes when each side has two or is that a 2 laner?) and I got stuck behind someone going 49MPH.  49 M-F'ng-PH.  I was stuck behind them because I was about to turn off at the next off ramp and I just didn't understand the gravity of their slowness until entire seasons seemed to pass while I slowly plodded that mile to the ramp.  I usually don't tailgate, but I did and I flashed them the high beams.   Because you're trapped in a car that's about as much as you can do.

Their vehicle was handling just fine and my off-ramp was also the one to the hospital so they were not driving carefully for some medical reason.  There's a road running parallel with a 45MPH speed limit.  They had no business being on this road.  They were just being complete and total a**holes.  People like this are far more dangerous than those who are mildly drunk or those speeding 21MPH over the limit on a road like this.  At least a speeder has to manipulate themselves around existing traffic.  A slow a-hole forces everyone going with the speed of traffic to adapt to their selfishness and change lanes.

And they actually had the nerve to flip me the bird when I passed them from the friggin's offramp!  Yes, they were going so slow that I easily passed them on the off ramp!

As for the speed limit itself, I totally understand people who obey it and I do not do anything to give those people the impression that I'm aggravated at them, but speed limits are largely set for financial purposes and not safety purposes.  For example, we have a 4 lane (or is it 8 lane?) road going into Orlando and it's limit is 50mph.  The reasons behind the abandoned federal 55mph limit have been shown to be a lie because our highways have been safer with the higher limits even in our modern era of highway texting and dashboard DVD players.  I haven't received a ticket or been pulled over in a very long time (and even that was for a very good extreme reason), but I have lost so much respect for those in the Police profession because they spend most of their time being highway tax collectors with guns.  I'll see them with these sophisticated traps involving numerous officers and their unmarked vehicles and I just shake my head.  They almost remind me of those rogue priests who spend 95% of their time doing good but it's all negated by that other 5% where they are screwing little boys.

People driving in the left lane doing the speed limit or slower is aggravating...Usually im driving my Ford pickup for work and i use the right lanes....( 300.000 miles on it and its kinda slowing down in its old age )..
But when im driving my Jeep or a friends fast car im guilty of tailgating...When i want too get by they will know it ..( 2 inches from there back bumper )...
But when they dont get it i will swoop by them and off i go.....I like that look they have when i pass -- Their just staring straight ahead not aware of there surroundings like maybe there on another planet or something...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've always heard that Louisiana has a reputation for giving out-of-staters tickets for absurd or even fraudulent reasons.
