Hey there! Been lurkin on this forum on and off for a looong time (like a year and a half, i'm almost 21y/o) but i decided to finally introduce myself because it's getting to be around that time (to shave it all off). Unfortunately, i'm not too excited about it--in fact, i'm waaay scared. You probably get the "I don't have the right head" comment a lot, but I definitely think I fall under this category. And believe me, I've thought about it a LOT and spent lots of time looking at other bald people (pathetic, i know) to come to this conclusion. My head is TALL and in the worst way possible. It slopes back like a ski jump from my forehead (although my forehead goes straight up, which makes it more weird). In fact, there really is no "top" to my head.
I've been told I have a big head my entire life, but it really never bothered me at all until I realized it would cease to be covered by hair. But I really just don't know what else to do than try and shave it, though I doubt i'll keep it. If i thought I had a regular or semi-respectable head, I would have shaved it off the day i noticed it was leavin' me. In fact, that had been my plan until stumbled upon some head MRI pictures I had done when I got a concussion once and realized my head was shaped like the freakin predator.
I guess my next question is, are wigs ever ok?

Anyway, I'm thinkin about shaving it for Christmas vacation, that way I've got a few weeks before school for it to grow back if I look too ridiculous, although right now it's about 2-3 inches long, but looks real bad. Just thought I'd post and say "hey" and maybe get some input before I actually do the deed. This really is a great forum you guys got goin on here.

You're thinking entirely too much about the shape and size of your head. Size--I don't like hats too much and that's a good thing--my head is so big the largest standard hat size, 7 7/8 is really too small--I can squeeze into an adjustable if the strap in back is barely, and I do mean barely together. It still is tight and leaves a really mean mark that takes a long time to go away. I can wear beanies, but if I'm freshly shaved--they tend to pop off because they're stretched so far--so big, don't tell me about big.
Shape, you can't really just the shape until it's clean. And, find someone who's complimented you on your hair, I will bet that you'll get lots, and I really mean lots, of compliments when it's clean.
Your baldness will not reverse, so it's either go bald hair by hair, slowly, looking worse as time goes by. Otherwise, get in front of this, shave it clean, and hide your mpb in plain sight. And do it now, you're going to fret about this and ruin your grades.
Get your razor, a new blade, some good lather and clippers--and clean that melon off and start living again.

Unless your name is Beldar Conehead I'm calling bull$hit. Post up a picture of yourself and let the bald brothers take a look at your headshape.
In answer to the second part,
NO!You might be surprised how much shaving your head will improve your look. Time to give it a try.

I agree with REd! Post a photo!
Rugs are fine if you want to be laughed at and ridiculed.......... or you can be admired for taking control of your life and showing a maturity beyond your years. OOPS! Almost forgot... the ladies love it...........

Welcome to SBG's blech, you've definitely come to the right place. I'm going to echo what my three bro's say here.
First off, get a good razor/blade combo, some good gel or cream, plan to take your time and give it a go. I'm willing to bet you'll love it. You should get a feeling many of us had, a sort of release, a feeling of freedom.
I have to back Red on this, and call BS as well. So many guys seem to think their heads are misshapen, but it's usually a non-issue, and we worry for nothing.
And lastly, I will second what Koz says; take control of your life, it's a feeling that's really tangible, the confidence is amazing. Give it a shot and you'll see. And yes, the added bonus is the ladies do indeed love it, I can't begin to tell you all the compliments I get.
Get a pic up, and keep us posted on how things go.

Like the other guys said, we need to see a picture. I doubt your head is even near what you think it is. I'm sure it looks fine.

No one's head is perfect, but we can be the judge of that with a pic. 'Blech' is the perfect description for a guy with a piece on his head. Don't do it!

o0o0o0h i'm still here alright haha. I think the earlierst I'd shave my noggin is probably after I visit my g-ma at the end of next month. She's getting pretty old and I only get to see her once a year so it'd be a shock to her i think. That sounds like an excuse but, well... yeah it is an excuse but I don't want anything to mess that up haha. I don't really have any pictures that would do very well at representing the shape of my dome. I tried taking some, but my laptop's camera is super low res and has high contrast so it wouldn't really be worth much. I could still do it if you'd like. Also, I guess I could post that head MRI that initially freaked me out.
One guy that I have noticed has a head shape like I believe I have is brad childress. Just overall very big in relation to his face (if that makes sense) and sloping upward to the top. Just imagine him being 21 years old and unmarried and you'll realize why I'm frlippin!! Ha.
In all honesty though, besides fearing the future I am also finding myself to be feeling somewhat guilty. The more logical part of me says being bald will look better than the horse-shoe and that I really have no choice and besides, I should consider myself lucky that I even have time to think about a problem like this. In that respect, I guess one thing I am looking forward to is (hopefully) being able accept the situation for what it is and move on without hair.

Glad you stayed. You gave yourself the answer, you need to "accept." That can be tough, and every mpb guy here has been in front of the mirror doing everything to see what it would look like if their head was shaved. The Bozo Ring, aka fringe just isn't an acceptable answer, but you knew that. So the real question is, will you go bald hair, by hair, by hair--as nature is doing, or do you take control, shave it, and hide the ongoing mpb in plain sight. The mpb guys here shaved, and we all get a reminder now and then that yes, we're still losing it, but at least it looks good, sharp, clean, that is to say Sly. It's a good feeling and you're going to enjoy being free. The moment you dry your newly clean smooth scalp will be one of the unforgetable moments in your life, the freedom, it's almost a spiritual awakening. We promise you'll never regret it. As for your Grandmother, she loves you, and that means she'll accept it, but of course she still remembers you and considers you her little grandson. So you can shave it--don't use her as a crutch to support your misery, and it is misery.
Look up the threads on shaving methods, and go to it. You have a life to lead, don't waste it worrying about something that's going to happen whatever you do. Sly is nice, and look around there are a whole lot of shaved bald guys now, particularly the younger guys. The girls love it.

I realize it's a little weird but here's the MRI picture that freaked me out about shaving my head in the first place that I was talkin about.
What really bothers me is the extreme angle at which my head slopes upward, and how far it goes. Notice that since I was laying down when the image was taken, my head is tilted back a bit, which gives it the appearance that It is even less steep an angle that it actually is.

Thought i'd upload it to see what you guys think, I really don't think I've seen another bald person with a head like mine.
