Head Shave at the Barbers

I went to my local barbers for a headshave the other day and really regretted it. I hadn't shaved my head for about a week due to being laid up in bed with the flu and as my clippers were broken and my hair was that bit too long to get at with a razor I decides to go to the local barber who advertises a total head shave on the price list in the window. Much as the actual shave process was very nice and relaxing, the result was awful. I always shave against the grain and get a really smoth result but the baber shaved with the grain and left a very fine fuzz, i didn't really realise this until I'd paid, left the shop and was walking home. When I got home I straight away shave my head again and got the result I wanted. Things I've learnt is that I should've told the barber to shave against the grain and not to let my hair get that long again that I can't shave it myself !

Sorry to hear about your bad experience at the barber. Personally I would never want someone else to shave me bald. A haircut is cool, but not a blad cut.

There use to be a female barber here in Vegas whose specialty was razor head shaves. Every couple of months I'd let my hair grow out for a week and then go in and have her shave it. It was quite relaxing and she always made sure you were shaved smooth. I haven't been able to find another female barber in Vegas who does the same thing with the exception of two different ones who work in high-end shops at casino resorts where the cheapest shave is $75.00.

Finding a barber that offers straight razor head shaves is a daunting task these days. Tell us what state/city you're likely to be in and perhaps some of the members can offer suggestions.

I haven't found a shop in the Houston area that give straight edge razor cuts either. The shop that I occassional go to uses a disposable razor. Not very effective. I always have to go home and finish the job. I ask Brian the barber and he said they didn't do the straight edge as if you have any bumps etc. it cuts them off causing a bloody mess. Go figure!

I have been on vacation for the past week and a half, and have been letting my hair grow out since this past Saturday. The dome is ready for a good head shave. Fortunately, there is a shop in Arlington, VA that does head shaves with straight razors, so I am looking forward to a nice warm lather, hot towel and cut against the grain head shave tomorrow morning.
May even do something about the goatee.

Hi guys, I`ve just found this site. I live in Scotland and over the past 5 years or so there have been numerous barber shops opening up usually operated by Turkish or Morrocan barbers all offering traditional head / face shaves. Cost varies from £12 - £15.

I had a barber shave my head with a straight razor in Perth, Western Australia. It was a relaxing experience and the barber shop was the real deal, however the result was not what I had expected. The guy was really proficient with the blade but the result was not as smooth as I had imagined it would be. I could not resist giving my scalp the once over with the Gillette when I got home, this was somewhat disappointing. I have to say, I was amused by the guy sitting in the seat beside me, he seemed somewhat shocked by my request for a head shave, even though I was essentially bald when I went in.. what did he think I was there for... a perm?

I went for a head shave a few times at my local barbers and the results were always excellent. It is a small barbers run by a Turkish guy. He would put the hot towels on my head, lather me up and shave with the grain, then more hot towels and he would lather me up again and shave the dome against the grain all with a straight razor.
I must admit that I could never get it as smooth at home - I wouldn't have to shave for a few days after going to the barbers.
