TEXTING AT THE MOVIES!
« on: July 20, 2009, 07:54:21 AM »
I am sick and tired of people texting in the movies. I`M trying to watch a movie and the glow of some fools cell phone is very distracting. The sad part,it`s just as many adults that are doing it as teens. If your life is so important that you can`t turn your phone off for two hours, then you shouldn`t be at the movies :Xo!

My phone stays on just in case something happens to the kids, but I don't text in the middle of a movie. I hate that just as much as you. I think it's rude and disrespectful to the folks around you.

That shows a lack of respect - be it adult or minor.  I can understand leaving it on but get up and exit if you need to use it.

Don't cha luv the ones that make and get calls in restaurants and don't have the courtesy to take it outside. Now everybody has to listen to their conversation while they are trying to enjoy a meal.

Guys, I'm gonna throw a monkey wrench into this discussion because my wife and I texted during a movie on Saturday.  Here's how it went down:

We took our three little girls (ages 6, 3, and almost 2) to see Ice Age.  During the movie, my little one starting freaking out and I had to take her out of the movie.  I was outside for a while and my wife texted me to see if everything was okay.  The alternative would have been my wife packing everything up and taking our two other girls out of the theater to check on me and the little one.  That would have gone over like a turd in a punch bowl.

So, I texted her back.  We had a quick text conversation of about 4 or 5 texts each.

In my opinion, we get a pass on that one.  First, it was a kids movie and there were lots of noisy kids in the theater.  Second, we actually caused less commotion than we would have, if we had packed up all the kids and gone outside.

An alternate point to your alternate point:

Your wife could have known that as a parent of three children you could handle the situation and no text would have been necessary. Also, if it would have turned into some kind of emergency you no doubt would have gotten to her more quickly than a text I'm sure.

I have little tolerance for ignorance in the movies........... I'll either say something to the offending party or just go tell the usher/manager.

And yse I have kids... three of them, so I've been there. Never texted because I don't text....period.

Ok an alternate to the alternate to the alternate....

What if his wife had been sitting in the back row...and this section only had about 6 seats in that row, they would have actually taken all of the seats in that row with 1 seat left for her purse and stuff.  She had her phone on vibrate...as to not distrube the other movie goer's, and she was able to turn the bright down on the display light?

I know what you are all saying, texting to me isnt as rude as long as it is done quietly.  I was at a movie and this lady was texting , which was done very respectfully, I never once seen a bright light or a sound.  What I did hear was,  each time she got a message she would turn to her husband and LOUDLY tell him what the message said.  She would also LOL , obviously at the funny ones.  This happened pretty much the first 1/2 of the movie, then 25-30 minutes before the movie ended, she mentioned the movie was lame so they got up and left.   Thanks Lady, I may need to go and re watch the first half of this movie.

textings not a big deal at all to me though in movies. if you cn text without making it too distracting or noticeable its not a big deal. it only becomes annoying if you can either hear them texting or hear them receiving texts.

theres far more obnoxious things that can be done in theatres than texting. ide put that on the bottom of the list.

whats annoying is when people talk, mess around, throw things, or you have a group of ignorant teenagers that do all the above. ive almost gotten into a few fights with some kids who were disrupting the movie on purpose. they would yell stupid things thinking theyre funy, and they would start throwing popcorn at the screen.

DANG.  Hardcore!

I think texting during Ice Age for a kid communication is the exception.

Every rule has an exception as is the case about the 3 kids in the movie above.  I can give a little slack on that.  My complaint is teenagers or adults who are just texting for the he}} of it.  Those people need to be ejected in my opinion.

That's basically why I stopped going to the movies. There are just too many ignorant pricks in this world.

DITTO!  I gave up on going to the movies years ago.  I have a 57" HDTV with BOSE surround.  The money I spent on this has paid for itself many times over.  I'll let ya'll deal with the crap.

Plus the snacks are cheaper!

What I think is even ruder than texting at the movies is when it happens in your own living room while trying to have a conversation with that person!!!
