Hello,
I’ve been sporting a #1 buzz for a while. I’ve been thinking about shaving the noggin for quite a while but somehow last week at the hair cutters I just said ‘take it down to #0. A couple hours later I decided I absolutely did not like the sandpaper on my head. I figured I was only a couple days away from what I had if I shaved it all off. So, I did the deed. I really like everything about a shaved head except the looks. When my wife saw my new ‘hairdo’ she said ‘what did you do that for?. She really doesn’t like it at all and would prefer I grow it back to at least a #1 buzz. This all happened 5 days ago. I let it go for 2 days and the sandpaper was back in force so I shaved it again. Since then I’ve been shaving daily and really like the feel of it. I have a hard time keeping my hands off my head. I understand my wife’s objections because I look quite different and am not sure I even like the look. I plan to keep it for at least a couple weeks to see how I feel then.

Hello LH. Glad you could join our family of Slyness. I am sure that with time you will grow to appreciate the sly look. I have a full head of hair but hated the curly texture. I don't miss all the time I spent trying to get it to look good. Therefore I am BBC (Bald by choice). My suggestion and the general rule around here is the 30 day trial period of being Sly. I didn't care too much for the look my first time, but I have grown to love it. I am a widower and don't have imput from someone else, so I please myself. I have grown it back once for about two months, hated the hair, so back to Sly. You didn't mention if you were receding or thinning. I take that you are. Post a picture and let us see the before and after. There are great guys here that can help in your decision. Keep us posted as to your final decision.

5 days huh? I'd say in another day or two you (and your wife) will get used to the change in your appearance and it won't seem so foreign. Then after 30 days, it'll feel and look totally natural.
...at that point you'll be sly for life.

It is just that its a sudden drastic change, it will take those who know you a little while to get adjusted. I dont think that the problem is you look bad...it is just different. Do the 30 day and then reflect on what you just mentioned here. You will be fine. Good Luck Bro, and Welcome.

That's how it works...also helps to get over the "firsts" when you first do it...first time you see people at work, first time relatives see you, etc. Once you have those under your belt, you'll forget why it was a big deal in the first place. Welcome and congratulations!

Welcome Lh. My wife wasn't too keen on my head shave either. She still says stuff like, I can't believe you did that or I can't believe you're going on vacation with a shaved head. I'm on day 38, just got done shaving, again, about an hour ago. Give it time, she'll get used to it, slowly but surely!

Hi LH!
Nothing compares with the great smooth feel, right? Keep it smooth for 30 days and then decide what to do next.

Like the guys have said, give it thirty days at least, because then you'll be used to shaving it, the color will even out and some of the "Who's the dude the mirror?" reaction will get easier. If your wife didn't mind the close buzz--mine hates it and the shaved look and it's been over 20 months--she may come around. Several of us, myself included have just had to make a decision, whether to accomodate the desire of our spouse/significant other or satisfy our own legitimate desire to control how we deal w/ our hair.
You'll find a lot of compliments out there, if you haven't already done so. That may also help your wife get used to it.
Hang in, if it's what you want go with it--if you're losing your hair you'll soon get most of the way there without a blade anyway

. And, rubbing your own head--we've had threads on that reaction, and I still enjoy rubbing my own head--there's absolutely nothing wrong with that according to the Sly Bald Guys, a legitmate and welcome pleasure of the Sly Life, and Welcome to it.

Thanks for the comments guys. My wife and I met another couple for breakfast and the other lady instantly said "you're bald!". Then went on about how she loved it and how sexy bald men are. She also asked if she could touch it. Of course I said yes and she rubbed my head saying "WOW that really feels nice!".
Today I bought some HeadLube Glossy and used it after my daily shave. That stuff is really great! I now have a shiny dome that seems to feel extra smooth. Shiny is for me.

I may be a little slow but I have not been able to figure out what SLY means. Is it an acronym? The definitions in the dictionary don't seem to fit.
