Hi there,
I'm happy to discover these boards, there seems to be a wealth of information here about being sly. None of my friends shave their heads and no one in my family does so I came to the Internet for advice. Dad got me an electric razor to shave my face when I was a teenager, but once I started shaving my head that didn't get close enough for me so I learned on my own to use a blade. I've actually been shaving my head for about two years now, so I feel I should have it down by now but I think it could be better. I shave everyday, so I figure anything I can do to be improve it will make life better.
I know others are reading this boards, maybe with problems similar to mine so I'll share my story. When I was 16 I started getting small bald patches, the doctor called it "Alopecia areata." I got it treated periodically by getting kenilog (?) injections, which did cause it to grow back, but in college the disease returned in force and I had odd shaped patches all over my head. I did not consider shaving for a long time, since I was so certain it would eventually grow back as it did before, and changing my look so drastically would be such a big change.
Your appearance is a big part of your identity, and having a big change to it can be scary if you're like me. I couldn't do it until a barber I went to encouraged me. Then it was a LONG time before I got used to it. I would look in the mirror and could hardly recognize myself. This caused a bit of anxiety, but hey I was pretty anxious before I shaved.
Now I'm used to it and I like the look. Still no sly friends, but I'm hoping to improve my technique by reading these boards.

Welcome, you made the right choice. Google "Kenalog injectable" and refer to the contra indications and reactions. This is a strong steroid, and shouldn't be given any more than 3 times a year according to my skin doctor. It is seemingly a wonder drug for many conditions but can cause real problems in some cases. A blade is a better answer, and if you can, remember that androgenic alopecia will affect approximately 50% of the male population by age 50, that's the fancy name for male pattern baldness. You're just a natural born leader--shine on, brother.

I have only been in the forum for a few weeks myself, but it is the best place online to discuss bald issues of every kind. Welcome and look forward to hearing your thoughts.
