To be or not to be...bald.
« on: November 15, 2010, 04:51:56 PM »
Hello,my name is Adrian,i'm 19,i live and work in Italy as a lifeguard at a private hotel beach.I always had and liked to have long hair, though in the last 18-24 months i have seen       an increasing rate of hair loss, using special products didn't helped at all.My hair is also very thin, and very very soft at touch,at the slightest breeze my hair would "fly" wich i find very   anoying.Very frustrating also when typing, writing, reading and other normal stuff people do on a daily basis either if it is at work or at home.
So lately i was thinking, why shouldn't i try to get rid of all these problems when having long hair, and giving it a try to being bald.It would probabily be compatible with my clothing style and also general lifestyle, work.I was thinking to get a radical change,so,as i like very much the agressive look of Timothy Olyphant in Hitman,i dressed up like him,i found out that i really really am loving it,i worn always in the winter time a long black navy coat, completing the suit has been an optimal decision. So i summing up the needs it would tell me that yes,i should shave my head.Great, agressive look,no more hair in my eyes all the time sounds perfect to me.
That was my pro for going bald, but the contra is,i never ever in my life had even short hair, not talking about bald.Searched articles on google about going bald, seen the pros, seen contras, seen advantages and disadvantages,so basicly i am well aware of everything, now here i go,the normal questions everyone gets to have when in a situation like mine.
How would i look bald, would it fit to me,to my lifestyle? How about my family, friends, would they be surprized about how a great improvement ive made,or would they just laugh at me like to a muppet? My boss is almost bald (naturally,he's 63) so i think that he would like to see me bald.so what do you think guys, should i go for it in the Hitman style,or it simply can't be me?

   Incoming pictures shortly.

Well this is from a point if view before seeing you pictures, Since you have had ling hair all the time, I would say try a buzz cut first. Going from long hair to no hair might be a drastic change for both you and your friends and family. Try a buzz cut and than tell everyone about you considering going bald. I don't know if you have a receding hairline or not, but if you do being bald might be better than just having short hair.

Again this is just my opinion and this is before seeing your picture(s), shaving your head after having ling hair seems like a drastic change to me, but its up to you in the end.  Welcome to the site by the way O0

Timothy Olyphant in Hitman was totally kickass! If that look doesn't convince you to give Sly a try, I doubt anything will.   ;D

Seriously though, just start cutting your hair shorter and shorter until you have a buzz cut. Then, if you like what you see, just shave it off. By then hardly anyone will really notice. Good luck!  O0

I agree with the veterans. Going from long hair to bald in one fell swoop might be a bit shocking. Maybe going gradually shorter and shorter is the best idea.

Wow first time I've ever been refered to as a veteran, it feels good.

I also want to add that if you have asignificant other, it might be a good idea to pass the idea of going bald by them first.

Allright here are some photos,5 of them have been made a few minutes ago.Just to get an idea about me in reality if you can't see from the pictures my weight is 71 kilograms, and i'm a bit tall,1,86 meters height.I am not very muscular neither fat.In other words,my face features should be more visible, appearing probably bigger, more shaped.Such as longer neck, maybe egg head and bigger ears.I'm awaiting answers, tomorrow i'll go cut some hair anyway, either if it's all or just a few centimeters.I will show you also some pictures with me after the haircut, dressed up as Hitman.

I say try a buzz cut first, you might like that so much that you won't want to go bald. You do have  a lot of hair and the change you might be looking for could just be shorter hair. For someone with your amount of hair, it probably will be a big shock to everyone else (maybe even you)

How about this, get a shorter haircut like a one in the sides and a two on the sides, than give that a week or two. If you still want to go shorter, than try getting s haircut without an attachment (so it'll be like a .5 or something). Test that out a little, than  make the decision to go bald, believe me its a big step to make. Some people love it, and others not so much.

I don't know what everyone else is thinking but to me, based on your pictures, you don't seem to be balding whatsoever.  Maybe you are balding on your crown or you are in the beginning phases of diffuse thinning, but the pictures don't show that.

I trust you know your own hair better than anyone else, but are you sure you are balding?

Are you kidding me? There is no indication whatsoever that you are losing your hair. In fact your hair looks about 10 times more dense than the average mid 20s male. I mean if you like the look a lot, go for it. I used to shave it when I still had hair. I prefer the shorter cut to the mop top, but that's just me. I guess if you ever do start thinning you'll be prepared and if you do go sly you know that if you don't like it, it will just grow back.

Wayfarer_Mikeand Jack21,you got this wrong,i don't think i am balding either,i am just losing a decent amount of hair for some unknown reason.I want to solve this problem by cutting my hair really short or a proper "zero" as we call it in Italy. My sister and my brother told me that i should totally go shorter and shorter, maybe untill i get to be bald,it could worth.I asked around friends, family and the forum about this,so they wouldn't freak out. It's the fault of the human mind mechanisms here,i am afraid of something i haven't done before,so i am doing the best i can to be secure about it,to have a "go" .

That's "balding"?

Maybe sometime down the line the word will apply, but from the pix, not bloody likely at the moment.

Enjoy it while you got it.

Yet, frankly, shorter is better, but no need to go all the way... yet.

Judging by the new pictures, I think your hair looks fine buddy. I figured you styled your longer hair to cover your balding/thinning, but looking at your new haircut, you look fine.

Short hair looks great , give it a buzz cut if you want , but don't try sly till you try at least a #1 buzz.
