Here are mine: I love the smooth feel of a fresh shave. I dislike the Velcro action of the stubble on my shirts or hats. I dislike the look of my stubble or hair (this would not be the case if I could grow a cool looking flattop like you @reddog or @Semi-Sly ). I think my beard looks better with a shaved stubble-free head.

We've heard many different reasons about our decision to shave off our hair. I've attempted to grow back my hair a couple dozen times but I always find a reason to shave it all off again. One good reason is that I break out in a terrible case of folliculitis mostly on the back of my head. It completely disappears when I keep it shaved, but always returns when I stop shaving. Other reasons I keep shaving is that I love the clean feeling of a bald head. I guess we can always come up with some reasons to keep running that razor over our heads!

Quote from: reddog on 04 Dec, 2025 05:01@Semi-Sly , I've found that no matter many times I grew my hair back, when I start thinking about shaving my head I can't get it out of my head until I finally shave it. It takes up way too much of my thoughts. And it feels so amazing when my head is smooth again!I know what you mean. It is on my mind every day now, but I certainly do not want to do it until New Years. The only reason that I do not want to do it at all is because it takes me 8 full weeks to grow enough hair to get the flattop back and that 8 weeks drive me right round the bend!!!But I just came home from a funeral and found myself envying a couple of beautifully shaven domes.

So you could go baldie in Florida for a while, and start growing before going back north. I'm tring a h&t recon right now. Keeping the sides and back shaved and a #2 on top.I find that it takes me at least two months to go back enough to start a flat top, but I could still wear a beautiful bald head for two months and then spend the next two months. Let me grow back that would work. I just need a lot of encouragement I guess I?ll have to let you guys keep on my case to do it.Do it for us @Semi-Sly ! Show of the smooth sly head for a couple of months (and post us some photos), then grow back your amazing flat-top for those of us that can't grow back, and those like me that could never have a flat-top because of my hair texture.

Quote from: Razorhead on 04 Nov, 2025 07:47Hello gents, I found this link online. It shows 127 before and after pictures of guys losing their hair and decided to shave it off. Maybe there was a longer period of time before some of the before-and-after's, but it seems like a lot of guys decided to shave their heads very early on in their hair loss. While others held out. I'm curious to know at what point did you decide it was time to shave? Was there a specific moment? My story is a little different in that I started to shave my head when I had a full of hair. 19 years later, I actually have hair loss with a NW5. From time to time, I will grow my hair out like I am right now, but I can see right through the front to almost half way across the top of my head. I've lost that much density. It will probably be the last time I will be able to grow it. https://www.menshealth.com/grooming/a33935199/men-baldness-shaved-head-before-after-photos-transformation-baldcafe/My story is a lot like yours razorhead. I started shaving before I had any hair loss and kept the sly look for at least six months every year for many years. It was only after I started going bald at the crown and experiencing some profuse thinning that I went back to the horseshoe flattop

Quote from: Razorhead on 24 Nov, 2025 10:23@Semi-Sly I really like the cowboy stache with the flattop. it's a great look. I'm going back to a mustache over Christmas break. Why did the barber suggest the mustache? Did he figure it was time for a change for you?I was getting the "itch" for a change and my regular Illinois Barber suggested shaving the beard instead of the head. He really thinks that it is my "duty" to be the "flattop fashion icon" (haHa)My Florida Flattop Barber has now retired, I am now up in Illinois for a month for the holidays and my regular barber who does the world's best flattops hooked me up on Wednesday. He gives the world's best High, tight and brutal horseshoe flattops!!!! When I go back to Florida for the four winter month's I won't have anyone available to do the flattop for me. I am not sure what to do. I thought about going back to the sly look but my Illinois barber doesn't want me to do that - he says that then I will have to go through a long growing out period in order to restart the flattop.
