Title: Why men should not fear balding...
Post by: Tyler on December 21, 2006, 03:24:32 PM
I recently wrote an article on Helium.com (http://www.helium.com/tm/100895) titled "Why Men Should Not Fear Balding."  You can read the article here: http://www.helium.com/tm/100895 (http://www.helium.com/tm/100895)

I'd be interested in your thoughts and comments on the article.

Very good Tyler!

The one point (that you make several times) that really stands out is how with the proliferation of mass media, a naturally occuring fact of life became something to be shunned.  Now, bald men are embracing their baldness and trying to shed the stereotype that bald is a bad thing!

Great job Tyler... you get the gold star for today!

Excellent article Tyler.  I think we all feared balding at one time, especially when we were younger.  Does anyone say "Yes!  I am losing my hair and going bald!!"?  Few, if any, I suspect.  We come to accept it, beat nature to the punch, then laugh in her face!

I enjoyed reading that, very well written. I agree that media portrayal has a lot to do with it - there was a time not so long ago when being bald was portrayed in the media as a subset of geek (and not in a good way). Now, as you say, there are big A-listers and clearly successful bald men who blow away the myth. I see more and more bald young men when I travel to work, and when I arrive for that matter - I'm one of them of course!

You can see the depth of attitude that we are standing against when the other post on why not to fear balding by Mary Jones says that those who retain their hair are "lucky" - she's supposedly taking a pro-bald position!

:D  First-rate article, Tyler. I am glad that it appeared in a broader medium, not just to the already converted at SBGs. I came across an interesting anthropological explanation of baldness the other day. The writer claimed that Nature/evolution created baldness in the best male specimens to send a mating signal to the females (he was talking about  our relatives, the higher primates) of the species who wanted to identify the most stable, authoritative, and protective individuals with whom to bond and start a family. Something to think about. If this thesis is correct, young guys getting ready to settle down should celebrate their baldness as a social advantage. Perhaps the growing number of those who stop making efforts to cover and of those who are BBC confirms this "forgotten" wisdom, despite the false media depictions that have characterized the desirable male until fairly recently. The heroine's fingers in the hero's hair may be good, but the heroine's fingers caressing the totally clean dome--skin on skin--is as good or better. I'm thinking of the Funnel Weaver's post of his laday kissing his shiny head). Professor Melon

Tyler- Good article by the way, it is true that shaved heads are becoming very mainstream now

But I am in kind of a negative mood today, sorry!!

Quote
Many men fear balding because they think they think it will deter them from finding someone to spend the rest of their life with, or if they have found that person, that person may become less attracted to him. Men also fear that balding might hurt them in their careers, or that their friends and others will make jokes and laugh at them. Some men fear that they don't have the right shaped head to look good bald. Once again, men should not fear these things.

1/Love-  The finding someone kind of deters me, thus why Im currently pumping my body full of chemicals to lower DHT

2/Career- Doesnt bother me because I know Im very good with computers and will not struggle to get what I want.

3/Friends/jokes- I couldnt give a sh*t as theyve known Ive been losing my hair since a young age due to me being so open about it

The underlying fear that I have is down to the fact that Im 23 and single and worried about future romances.

Anyone got any good advice about going sly at a young age and how it affected them?

This probably isn't what you want to hear, but the only way to allay your fears is to take a deep breath and just do it.  You are agonizing over "should I or shouldn't I?" Stop torturing yourself.   This is something you really HAVE to try.  If you don't, you will always wonder if you should have.  If you do, you will either love it and the problem is solved, or you may be one of the very small minority who decides that sly isn't for them, and let it grow back.  But at least then you will know.

Take it from someone who waited far too long to take the plunge -- the anticipation of it is worse than the actual deed itself.  Once it's done, there is a tremendous feeling of relief.  Of all the people who have come this forum who were thinking about going sly, I can only think of one who decided it wasn't for him.  The rest all loved their new look.  Put yourself out of your misery and give it a go.  Set a date in the not-to-distant future and then just do it.  You owe it to yourself to try.

First, Tyler, Great Article...

Itsonlyinmyhead, I previously wrote to you about my female worries, and that I went to HCM. $35,000/7 yrs later, I wish I would have never went that route. I realize now that I didn't when I was 23, now 30, that if you meet a female that cares that much then she isn't worth it. This sounds cliche', but it depends on what you are looking for. I am getting married in Sept. to a beautiful, intelligent, funny woman and she loves my bald head and so do I. It is definitely going to be tough at first, but confidence is the key. Something that also helps me is working out/exercising, it adds to the look. It is not necessary but it helps build my confidence even more. I never thought I would get to the poitn where I don't care what others think, but I am close to it, and I was one of the most insecure person you could meet.

Do it brother, become SLY...you will grow into it and be happy you didn't waste your $$$ on BS that doesn't work and only worries you more...TRUST ME, I have lived it for 7yrs.

Good Luck.

Thats really good, Im happy for you  O0 . I cant imagine what you must of gone through to go to HCM in the first place

My problem is just meeting the right woman, I just never seem to  >:(
I know I probably will eventually but not at the moment, I do work out and exercise alot now that my hours have got shorter from 60+ to 40ish.
Im just abit worried that the bald noggin might reduce my chances.

I wont ever get a system or a hair transplant as that is kind of lying to yourself and others around you in my opinion. I am taking propecia though at the moment and have been for about 2 or 3 weeks, Ill give it a go and see what happens.

Maybe Ill have to move areas to meet the right woman, but there is hope  :D

As far as meeting woman goes, everytime I went out, that was my goal. It got to the point that I didn't even care about being out with my friends, I was worried about finding a woman. I regret it now, because when you get older you don't have that much time anymore to see friends as much due to various things, marriage, kids, work...

My advice, don't look for it, it will come. Confidence brother is the key, keep hitting the gym and it will also help (though it is not necessary to be confident, it helps me!).

As far as the propecia, it didn't work for me, although it may for you...

O0 things will get better, you sound like a good dude, patience is the key my friend, and oh yeah, CONFIDENCE!

Cheers dude.
Even though Im not sly(yet) I post on this board because of people like you  O0

Im not looking for women everytime I go out (this may be the problem). I know confidence is the key, I am pretty upbeat most of the time, Im just moaning because I dont seem to meet that many women I could see myself with. I do seem to get chatted up quite alot, so I cant be that hideous  :D

I need to get my neck bigger, you got any exercise tips or do I just need to get fat?  ;D

p.s. Ive put my facebook pic as my virtual bald picture, everyone seems in shock, a few have said it suits me, a few have said I look ill, then quite a few have said I look like Lex Luthor out of Smallville-is that bad?

It was the best thing I've ever done with my hair.  The funny thing about attracting women is that going sly says to people "here I am, take it or leave it," and not caring if people are attracted to you tends to attract people (like how guys will get hit on once they're married).  You don't have to answer to anybody but yourself, and that attitude shows in your bold look.  Just be well-groomed and confident in yourself, and women will want to get to know you.

I made a fake bald picture of myself, and I got a few neo-nazi jokes (all in good fun of course).  I wouldn't take the bad comments too seriously.  Don't live your life by what others think.  It looks better in real life anyways.

I wouldn't worry about what your Facebook friends say.

Itsonlyinmyhead = my identical situation. Same age, even good with computers :), thats how I make a living. I've been reading these boards for the past few months. Great bunch of people here! I especially like the fact that there is such a broad range in terms of personalities.

So let's review, even thou its redundant because everyone has the same story, it will serve as an introduction:

I've started balding @ 18. I was devastated but got over it within a month or 2. Since I've never really had any confidence problems, and the fact that I was getting laid full time, it was not that hard. I also never really tried to hide it and even if someone would bring it up it was easy to shrug it off. You always tell yourself, well big deal, Im balding lots of people are, I'll worry about it in my 40s (WRONG!). Of course the ultimate solution, and the only solution in my opinion, is shaving your head. I don't even want to hear about hair pieces, transplants and any of that bullshit. I think in the long run shaving is the *only* solution. In the future, I'm sure they'll find a way to eradicate the problem, but present day that is the only solution. I've taken 4-5 cycles of Propecia in the past 5 years and I suppose it helps. Unfortunately I'm in the 25% category of men that lose their hair in their 20's (early).

23 now, and its getting bad. I would like to point out that before Nov-2006 I had the same mentality as I did at 18. Same look, 2-3 on the side, 4-6 up top, spiked up. November for some reason I started noticing a little too much thinning, so much that it put me back in freaking out mode. Meaning, you over-analyze everything.  So I decided to shave it off, just so I can get a fresh start (the usual bullshit). I've done that twice from 18-23 and always grew it back up. Anyways, now, its back to where it was length wise, but its still super thin (duh!). So at this point you realize that this is the so-called "rock-bottom" and since you can manipulate your hair the only thing you have is shaving it.

Bored yet? Same story.

So now Im stuck @ square one trying to figure out what to do. We're all worried about the ladies because I did have a good run so far :) and since I'm 23 I don't see why that should stop. My friends / clients are also an issue of course.  The way I plan on getting myself to do it is by getting in great physical shape (I worked out since high school but I'm probably going to ramp it up a little) & get some tan. I really have no reservations about the look itself. I never think twice when I meet someone with a shaved head because its not the look that I'm concerned about. It's if I will be able to pull it off ... If it would ever suit me.

I've always been very confident and cocky so I would not know how to be any different. I've noticed that I withdrew from a bunch of social events and when I'm out I cannot be myself. It definitely sucks and I am looking forward to getting rid of this hassle and anxiety.

NOTE: What surprised my about Itsonlyinmyhead is that he's from UK and I know for a fact (European myself) that over there shaved heads aren't that big of a deal. Especially among the young crowd.

Anyways ... great being here guys.

Yeah pretty much the same R6 apart from youve shaved yours down before, I never have-stupidly, should of done it when I was at uni or working away to try it out.
I know it is the solution but Im still trying to get myself there, I might try and talk one of my balding friends into it so Im not alone!!

You and me both my friend. Stuck at ... not *IF* we're gonna do it, but when? And what to do in order to transition somewhat into it. I mean its easy to just *DO* it, but ideally you would *STAY* with it. I've never thought about the friend route, although it sounds like a good deal.

Hey r6, welcome!

To both you and Itsonlyinmyhead, doing it and deciding to keep it are too different decisions, but obviously connected.  A lot of us recommend to try it out for 30 days to give it a really good shot and then at no risk to you you can return it (was beginning to think I was writing an infomercial  :/O) then decide what to do from there.

I like the friend idea!  You could also try doing it for a charity such as St. Baldricks or Wigs for Kids.

Well Ive just got to convince my mate, he has a quite bad receeding hairline(as in its pushing back to a horseshoe shape) but I dont wanna say anything because I dont want anything awkard. But I suspect he will be my likeliest option and to do it for charity would be a bonus.

I have got to buzz it down first, I want to but Im so scared, probably because I think it will look mega thin when its down to a 1 or a 2

If your hair loss is as bad as you say (no picture to judge), don't be scared about buzzing it down.  Everyone already knows that you're losing your hair.  Think of it like this, you are saying to the world, 'hey, I know I'm losing my hair, but I'm not going to look stupid by trying to cover it up.'  There's no way to cover up losing your hair unless you walk around with a ball cap on 24x7.  And I have yet to see a 'good' combover.  Good luck!

The Professor speaks the truth.  I can remember going through the "fear stage" that you are in right now,  and the relief I felt once I'd actually gone through with the deed.  After that, the toughest part was going to work for the first time without any hair.   I was almost physically ill the closer I got to the office that morning, but the whole thing turned out to be a huge non-event.  Got a few compliments, most people didn't react at all.  I got a bigger reaction when I buzzed down to a #1 for the first time.

The whole thing made me realize, that while we can concoct all sorts of excuses not to go sly (work, you're too fat, too thin, too short, too pale, whatever), there is really nothing holding you back except yourself.  The rest of the world simply isn't that interested.

There are many of us here who have been through what you're going through now.  And not one of us ever regretted going through with the Big Shave.  Time and time again, new sly guys all ask the same question, "Why didn't I do this sooner?"

You can either be paralyzed with fear over this for the next several weeks, months, years, -- or you can end the misery at any time.  Get it over with.  I promise you'll feel much better.

I'm just speaking from my own experience here, but, hopefully it well help some of you other guys who feel insecure. Honestly, now that I shave my head, I seriously love it and I wouldn't let my hair grow out again. I had the typical receding hairline thing, but no hair loss. I got sick of noticing that horrendous hair line, so I talked to my fiancee about how she would feel if I did shave my head. She actually said to me " i actually would like it on you and I think it would look great" (she likes that look I guess) and plus. I always have like gel in my hair I think she got sick of it haha. So I think it was back in January when I first shaved my head. Honestly, I thought I looked way better without hair for some reason. When my fiancee saw it the next day, oh my god, her jaw dropped. She was like " I love it!!!" She said I looked better and you wouldn't believe the comments from my family. My own MOTHER told me I looked better that way! Now that tells you something from the woman who brought you into this world! So, if you are receding or thinning, just shave it. Seriously. Youll love it. I now dont have to buy gel no more thank god, I used alot too. No more shampoo nothing!..No bad hair days or me saying "Babe is my hair all messed up" haha...I love it and you will too. Shine on SLY brothers.

Eclipse, thanks for posting that bro!  Welcome to Sly Bald Guys!

These days, men should not fear balding.  But being a people pleaser, I have feared comments from friends and loved ones.  But I would say that if anyone wants to shave their head, it is a good way to learn to be your own person!

By the way, with this post, I am now officially sly!!!!!!!!  woo hoo!!!!!

No problem Ty.....and yeah I got some good women in my life! everyone is out to make like having a shaved head is a rebellious look. Its not, its dignified. All my friends love it. Beides that, my best friend Bobby just shaved his head like last week! haha he wanted to see what he would look like...he loves it he said its so much easier than hair..my dad is somewhat bald too i tell him always to just let me shave it and be free...my mom wants him too so he has a nice clean look...I just dont get it sometimes with guys why their so afraid to shave their head if their going bald...im not even going bald really and i love the shaved head look...its completely natural..not trying to sound all rude, so dont take this the wrong way, but I think some guys who are afraid to shave their head are babies..I mean, were all men here, be a man and shave it! Be SLY..haha...Im learning fellows!

>  You'll be liberated as soon as you embrace your slick dome. It's you, man, only your backward view is blocking your progress. Professor Melon

I agree with the Professor and Razor X.  We all have gone through this.  I was in your shoes not 3 wks ago.  Two wks ago I just went for it, and I assure you, I've never felt better about my "hair" since I had a full head in my early teens.  And you, like me, will be asking yourself "why didn't I do this sooner?!!!!"

I think we build up the anxiety in ourselves about shaving. My advice is to buzz it shorter and shorter to get use to being hairless. And then just take the razor to your head. I bought a headblade and agonized about using for three months. One night, I just popped a beer and decided to get to work on shaving my head. After I shaved I knew right away the look was for me. I had two weeks of relapse in the last year. I grew some hair for the holidays. When I look back at the picks, I realize how bad I looked with my hair. Receding hairline and graying. Ugh.

It's good to be sly.

Right on about just doing it Razorhead.  But with my experience with the Headblade, I don't think that I would mix any sort of alcohol and shaving with a HB.  I sure that I wouldn't have much of a scalp left.  J/K.   :*))

Today, there is no reason a man should fear hair loss.

Think about it.  Thinning hair is ugly.  Combovers fool nobody, regardless of how big or how small the bald area is.  The remaining hair turns gray and white over time.  Why deal with it?

I realize there are multitudes of men in their early and mid twenties who dread the thoughts and fears that they will never meet women who will find them attractive without a full head of hair.  That is so much crap.  Those poor souls on HLT ought to grow a pair, get a set of clippers, shave it off, and hit the gym.

Three and a half years ago, I took my wife to Valentine's Day dinner and noticed a couple at a nearby table.  She was a beautiful, pregnant lady. Her husband had a shaved head and a hoop earring.  Apparently, she liked his look and it certainly worked for him!

Thinning hair should be looked at as an opportunity and as a part of becoming a mature man.  You don't need hair to be successful in life.  You do need a positive attitude.  Sure, there are women who won't like a man with a bald head.   Forget 'em.
Find one who likes it and you'll be set for life.

If you're 23, forget about a steady relationship for a while.  Establish a career.  Save some money.  Buy a home.  Have fun.  Everything changes after marriage.  It's a trade off and you have to be ready for it.

The combover is the worst of them all. Although, it appears that they are becoming less prevalent (probably a generational thing).

On the other point, glad your wife appreciates the slick look.

I have got a set of clippers and my hair is on a #3 permantely at the moment and after finishing my gruelling job Im exercising alot and getting back into good shape for the first time in about 3 years. In regards to relationships, I think the buzz has attracted women abit lately probably due to the fact that Im very happy in myself.  O:O

Just reading over the discussion; very well said Penguins Fan. You hit the nail on the head with that one. Hair loss is indeed what you make of it. I learned that after freaking out for about 4 months before developing a plan to make myself ok with it. In many ways going bald made me want to work harder at both my school work and my fitness.

There are many more ways to enjoy life than having a full head of hair.

I have been shaving my head for five years and no one has ever said anything about my lack of hair not job interviews family or girlfriends everyone sees my baldness as my way of life and my kids even tell me if i need to shave the head because its a little fuzzy, I am a new member here and i am glad i found this community to see that there are many other people that believe the way i do and like having the bald dome

OK, so men shouldn't have to fear balding, but what about the thought of having hair- again?
This evening my wife was excited to tell me that there is some new process for growing new hair and that the process should be available to the public in about 2 years.  I pretended to be interested, but I could care less.  OK for some, but I don't want hair.  Is it so bad not to want hair? :D

Nope. It's perfectly OK.
I saw this same segment on one of the morning shows (Today Show?). My wife asked me the same thing...if I'd consider it. I didn't even answer...just gave her a glance back with the implied, "Come on, do you EVEN need to ask?" ;)

cheers guys,

you know i think what i look forward to the most is regaining control of my own appearance. For too long i've been looking in the mirror and being scared to death of what i'll look like next week, or next month, or in a year. Not knowing what your going to look like in the future is damn scary, but i know that once sly, i will be able to look in the mirror and like my reflection, but most importantly, know that this time, mother nature cant take it away from me.

First off I really enjoyed the article...
I am new to the sly community, and while I no longer fear balding, I have not become completely comfortable with it... I don't think I look bad bald, pretty much the same actually.
but here is one of my dilemmas.
I am 22 and  was never really into shaving my face as a teen... so I can't grow a full beard or even a goatee(some spots are missing). Girls tell me I look good with some scruff, but I was wondering if there is still hope if I start shaving several time a week now if my facial hair will get thicker?

Welcome bro!

Well, the scruff can get a bit thicker as age creeps up on ya (my goat never fully reached my stache until these last few years). I would shave your face  more frequently though...it couldn't hurt. Then again the "Mr. Clean" bald dude is a classic look..so why mess with perfection! ;)

Greetings Gentlemen:
I am not a bald male, actually the opposite--a woman who has appreciated bald men since I 1st saw Telly Savalas help save the day in "Kelly's Heroes."  I hope I am not speaking out of turn or in the wrong spot on the forum to give my opinion.  There have been traditionally 3 methods we've all known about--rugs, plugs & drugs.  John Travolta (my condolences) looks like he fr time to time needs to "resod" the turf, and as for rugs, pls: has anyone ever seen a real looking one?  They're like silicone boobs are for women: fake, fake & more fake.  My point is, isn't it better to keep it real instead of trying to hide it & look more ridiculous w/storebought hair?

Look at is as a rite of passage.  I realize that's easy for me to say, but as a woman I have to deal w/my own "rites of passage."  None of us have it perfect in this life right?

My now smooth & shiny friend has several gashes or scars on his head.  He was always wearing a hat & 1 day I dared to remove it & said, "u know what Bill, embrace your uniqueness:  rock your ugly."

He now wears a hat that says "rock your ugly".  I'm serious.

Well, thank u for listening & I look forward to reading this amazing forum.  Long may u run & shine on u beautiful diamonds!

Nice intro and welcome...

but no "right of passage" for me..

I'm proudly bald by choice for 15 years..

the look is awesome!

Enjoyed the thread, Tyler.

Quite the eye opener. Keep up the good work.

Are you likely to get any more articles published in the future? If so, don't forget to post it on here as I'd like to read them.

Best of luck.

This is a great forum. It seems mostly positive from what I've read so far. I know it sounds dumb but I thought I was alone. I just googled embrace your baldness and followed the links here, boy have I got a lot to talk about. The article I read was by a guy named george chavez or Gomez. It was 4th or 5th down after I googled embracing well you know. It was pretty witty. And I must say I am witty too. I'm close to going with the total shave but I want to do it when I have some time off work just so I get to see what my head is shaped like first. thanks. now off to read some more from you all

Welcom and you're certainly not alone--try this--count every guy you see with a shaved or tightly buzzed head for the next 24 hours and report the number.  And almost all of us wondered what the dome was shaped like.  This is not new territory--it's well plowed or should I say shaved.

Next, from the observations on this forum, once you've got the itch it's going to get scratched and in every case the remark most reported is, "I wish I hadn't waited so long."  Suggestion, scratch the itch.  Keep it thirty days.  We'll bet you're Sly and Smooth from there on out. O:O

I used to be very self consious about my hair loss. I didn't like that I was in my mid to late 20's losing my hair. I thought I wouldn't care if I were in my 50's or 60's, but I was 26-27 years old when it became noticeable, to a point where I was reminded almost daily, by someone, that I was losing my hair. I'm 31 now and I'm not self-consious of it. I'm married (almost 10 years) with a child, so I don't worry about it.  In fact I get told I look better bald by most people, and now my wife even requires me to be bald now.

Why should you fear something that there is nothing in the world that you can do anything about. I have been bald a lot longer than I had hair. I personally think that it is kind of cool. I look naturally like a lot of the guys

Becoming a bald guy has really helped my confidence. I am not so self-concious as I used to be as when I started losing my hair. And this site has helped me to keep my noggin smooth.

Thanks Tyler.

Men should not fear balding because the wall between you and a serene life is FEAR.
But your brain creates FEAR and your brain gives FEAR all that power.
Thus, because your brain is YOU, you have also the power to destroy what you'd created.
It will continue living, because you're a magnanimous person.
But it will be no more FEAR, it will be fear

Been going bald since I was 17. Im 25 now and the way I see it is, it's the way God intended us to be.

So it may not be the best look for me but.......

1) I have no choice, so I will embrace it.

2) I am healthy and there are people out there dying of hunger and cruel diseases that are actually truly hopeless.

Everyone must deal with the cards they have been dealt in life. This is one of them  O:O

Hi Guys,

My first post...
balding started at the age of 19 by the age of 22 i've already had my second transplant...
i guess the big scar at the back of my head doesn't really trouble me as that can always be dismissed with a cool accident story.
what troubles me is the little holes placed evenly apart around my temple, didn't think they'd be that noticable, till i shaved my head...wore a hat and didn show a soul till it grew back...any advise on how to get rid of these??
I presume most of the responses will be just be patient as my last transplant was june 2011 (i'm still 22)...

I can't express all my concerns in one email...but would really like to be part of this community!!! there's so much bromance here:p that's just what i need to get my self confidence back, would like to also discuss that "Goodlookink" crap (check youtube/google/the library).

Please respond (somebody/anybody??), and tell me in future where to put my posts if i've put them in the wrong place (sorrry!)

Thats it for now,
regards,
Notmy Realname

Bald guys are better looking than guys with hair.

Studies have also shown that women prefer that a man have no hair at all over thinning hair or a receding hairline. More and more men are embracing this style for that reason.

I fear growing my hair. This morning, I didn't shave .. earlier start at work. Feel scruffy and am convinced my stubble is long enough to wear in a pony tail.

Cannot wait until I have a satisfying smooth this afternoon.

I think that your article does describe a lot of the things that I have heard some balding men say. The thing is though that men shouldn't worry about what TV ads say they should look at what will make them happy and if you are married then I say you should surprise your wife with the bald look and she should like you either way for if having a shaved makes you happy then she should be happy for you. Don't let people influence your decision take pride in yourself and try it you will never know until you try it. I don't think balding men should try hair restoration I think they could look years younger just by shaving their heads and I have talk to a lot of bald men that don't and do shave their heads and I found that either way they are happy. A good product though that I did find that helps with breakouts is Sea Breeze and cleans the pores really good and keeps break outs down. If you have any advice of things that I could do to help me to take care of my head please let me know.

I feel the same way already. Feels better if I shave every day. Missed it one day last week due to long working hours and couldn't wait to get home the following day and shave again.

I got asked for I.D. A few days ago whilst on honeymoon.  I asked the waitress how old she thought I was, she said 28! I'm 37 :).

A female friend of mine yesterday said she couldn't get over how different I looked. Said I looked hot.

I feel younger and think I do look younger and more stylish and current rather than wearing a unit.  Got all my headblade stuff delivered yesterday. Brilliant.

It is just part of being a man.  Some bald and others do not ever.  If you are balding, just go for a close buzz or do what I did and embrace reality and shave.  Besides I was getting too gray and since I am now completly bald, I look 10 year younger.  I have a graying gootee, but I use just for men beard.  It works great and again I look so much younger.
Just accept and go for one of the alternatives above.  I vote for complete bald.

The fear for most is other people it was for me i mean at 16 its understandable you can imagine why since i was still at school...when it really came down to it i never really cared about balding or being bald (apart from the horsehoe look when its really grown out i dont like it on me)...i mean i let it grow out now and shave it and repeat thats how much i dont care...but for me it was being judged in the end i came to my senses and it just got shorter and shorter to what i am now...if anyone judges you for being bald they are not worth your time.
