Title: Ward's Reviews - King Of Shaves (KOS) AlphaGel and AlphaOil
Post by: rward086 on May 26, 2009, 09:12:29 PM
In my search of summer friendly shaving products, I decided to pick up King Of Shaves (KOS) Shaving Gel and Shave Oil. It seems like these two products are made to be used together, so I will review these as a pair.

Ease of lathering: N/A. It's hard to knock a gel for not lathering. It's just the 'nature of the beast'. Any disadvantages associated with KOS gel-like properties will show itself later in the review.

Life span of lather: N/A

Moisturizing: Very good. Vitamin E and Aloe Vera are the two active ingredients in this gel. The oil contains Grape Seed Oil, Eucalyptus Oil, Tea Tree Oil and Aloe Leaf Juice. After the shave, my pores felt tight and skin felt great.

Lubrication: Holy cow! The great thing about gels are their slickness. Combine it with an oil and you are hydroplaning! I defiantly recommend this gel/oil combo to the Headblade users on this forum.

How protective?: Great. With Tea Tree in both the gel and oil, you can get a close shave, while also staying protected!

Scent: Both products are unscented. However, there is a good dose of menthol included in each. I love this for the summer time. You feel cool and refreshed after your shave.

Price: At around $13 for the combo, it's really a great deal and you get tons of shaves.

Would you buy again?: Probably. Although I recently started using this combo, I've been nothing short of impressed.

Ease of lathering - N/A

Life span of lather - N/A

Moisturizing - 10/10

Lubrication - 10/10

How protective? - 10/10

Scent - 9/10

Price - 9/10

Would you buy again? 8/10

Overall: 9.3/10

Right on again Ward. I've used both and had great results, though not as a tandem as you mentioned.
Both are keepers, and part of my rotation.    O0

Tell us how it goes! One tip I could give you right off the bat is to apply the gel with your head wet. A little gel goes a long way, so add a little water to your head before adding more gel. You'll know when you've applied enough gel when it turns into a white foam.

Since I shave (mostly) in the shower the wet head is a given...

I think the products are very good.

Generally speaking I would say as good as the other name brand products I use when I do oil plus gel/cream. That would include HB Slick, Bald Guys Gel. NOT positive, but of those three I am leaning towards Slick.

Since I have mostly, recently, been simply using oil and then straight to a shave, next one I will try just this oil.

So far of the 3 oil products I have used, the Pacific "All Natural" is my preferred. The other two are the Shave Secret and KOS's Silicone Oil.

As always,
Eric
