Gonna wait for the DVD though.
(don't get me started on theaters - lol)

Never really been a fan either, but you're right, this does seem pretty cool.

I am a long-time fan and I loved it. There were a few things I think could have been done differently (but I won't post spoilers) but I still give it 5 stars.
A must-see for fans and non-fans alike.

Totally agree with Bear. I'm a longtime fan of the original (watched all the reruns after school when i was a kid). Not so much of the subsequent entries. But the idea and final product of this movie is great. Can't wait to see how many more they make.

Alright, so I'll admit, I'm a hard core Star Wars nut!!! I'm not the type to buy or collect the toys or trinkets mind you, but I have all the novels and read them all the time. I even have an original VHS release of the Trilogy in mint condition which is one of my most treasured possessions.
So, like any TRUE Star Wars fan, I've never cared for Star Trek. This caused many problems growing up because my dad was a Trekkie, and I still to this day think that he 'donated' all mine and my brothers' Star Wars toys to charity to spite us for not liking Star Trek.
That having been said however, I do think Picard was awesome (mainly due to the Slyness) and can appreciate and enjoy the movies for the Sci-Fi factor. I'm not sure if I'll be seeing this in theaters, but I'll do in fact want to see it.
2 great Star Wars Vs. Star Trek videos......... O0

I saw it this past week and I loved it. Probably the best movie that I've seen this year. Action, adventure and pretty heroic

You guys and other folks I know are telling me this movie is great. So it is now on my must see list.....and must see on a big screen and with great sound.
-
Definitely go and see this one in the theater. Go catch a matinee or something if need be (that's how I do it). I've seen the thing twice now and the visuals are fabulous. Enough so that only a theater screen is going to do it justice.
Aside from being a really great movie, well acted, written and directed, but there are quite a few SLY mofos in the film as well. Apperently, shaved heads are gogin the be a pretty big thing in the distant future ;)

I always enjoyed ST and rember it being prime time. My sister andI begged our parents to let us stay up and watch it. I 'd like to see this new one but have thought about skipping it after seeing the clip where they are trying to evacuate a pregnant woman off the ship as everything is going to hell. The clip brought back nasty memories of me dealing with 30 odd pregnant soldiers at the Fort Hood mobilization site who couldnt deploy, couldnt fight, were just a drain on the taxpayer, and had ZERO business in the Army. Anyway, I have heard the film is politically correct. So....as a loyal American who has had his share of Marxism, attacks on free speech, capitalism and the Constitution, and global trips of apology and appeasement to bad people and countries over the last 100 days, is this a film I would like? If its a film that will anger me, I wont waste my money. lol
I always liked the ST premise of the prime directive but they meddled when requied. (and of course, kicking the borgs ass..)

I always catch the Tuesday matinee, there's hardly ever anyone else there. Which is good, because I hate people eating popcorn in my ear.

I am a long time Star Trek fan and I loved the new movie.

My wife and went to see it tonight (Saturday). I've always been a Trek fan and I may be opening a can of worms here BUT:
I found it rather boring. Same plot line as when Picard battled the Borg. The only real difference was HOW the crew got together to start with. Other than that, pretty much the same ole same ole. I mean, it's not like you didn't know who lived or anything. They have been cruising the galaxy since the 1960's. LOL
It did have have some good graphic effects, I will give it that. Wife really enjoyed it. I kind of dozed off I think. How did Kirk get to Antartica anyway?
-
To each. Most people enjoyed it, some didn't. A few friends of mine detested it (but for different reasons).
WARNING! The following contains plot spoilers. Do not read if you don;t want to know what happens!
But to address your points:
> Same plot line as when Picard battled the Borg.
Don't see it. No assimilation. No attempt at invasion. Just a good old revenge plot-line. More in common with Wrath of Khan in that respect.
> I mean, it's not like you didn't know who lived or anything.
Because of the reset in the time line, anything was up for grabs. The destruction of Vulcan changes the whole Star Trek universe immensely. Anything can happen going forward because the Star Trek we all grew up with no longer happens! Clever way to get a clean slate, JJ.
> How did Kirk get to Antartica anyway?
Thats was a moon of Vulcan on which (young) Spock stranded Kirk because he was getting snippy.

Vulcan Gets destroyed!!!! WHAT!!! I'm thinking this isn't worth seeing! Vulcan is at the heart of Star Trek! This isn't logical ;)
-
I think is was great!! Well done and captured the essence of the original Star Trek series, but with an edge... Of all the ST movies that I've seen, hands down the best!
The only thing I didn't really care for was the whole Spock-Uhura thing, but it did follow the "change" to the ST universe theme...

I agree. There were a number of small things that I thought could have been done better, but the Spock/Uhura thing was the only big one that I thought really stuck out as unlikely.

Ooops! I probably should have warned that my response would contain spoilers of important plot points of the movie. Sorry if that ruined things for you!
I have added a warning to my post.
