Post by: GaryT on May 03, 2009, 03:38:44 PM
Which do you hear most often when talking about the sly look.
1.  "It makes you look so much younger??
2.  "It makes you look so much older??

Having a slick bald head made people think I am younger...my beard makes me look my age...

my wife says I look younger with the horseshoe flat and beard...

but I think she likes bald better! ;)

People say I look older. Before going Sly I looked like I was maybe 15 according to most. Since going Sly people have told me I look like I am in my mid 20's. On most older guys it makes them look younger, on younger guys it tends to make them look younger. It almost tends to nuetralize age from mid 20's to mid 30's no matter the real age.

Andre, I agree, you looked younger when you were Sly.

Neither. I'd been buzzing my head for about 25 years prior to going sly so hardly anyone noticed a difference. I do generally get comments that I don't look my age even with the salt-n-pepper Van Dyck.

Without question, my experience has been that it makes me look younger.  That's very vain and pleasant experience--and I frankly like it.  But reality says that at my age, when the Big Bang still rings in my ears, I'll take any younger comment I can get.  I like it, I'm keeping it.

I'm just curious; how often does this topic come up with you guys?  It's rare that anyone asks me my age; possibly because most of the people who know me already know how old I am.  It's just not something that people seem to comment on. For that matter, my shaved head is not a frequent topic of conversation, either.  I really don't know if people think it makes me look older or younger.

No, you would look about 10 years older if you let the horseshoe grow out.

Hey Razor,

I don't often get asked my age but I do often run into old friends, co-workers etc. that have not seen me totallly sly. After I telll them why I do it etc. they often comment about it making me younger and/or younger. I have been told that it makes me look younger from countless people, even my wife!!

I am rarely taken for being in my fifties, so I guess that means others think I look younger.

to be honest i think ide be insulted if anyone said i looked older lol. but then again it all depends on how much older. im 20 so anything over 23 is pushing it. anything older than that and ide start getting paranoid thinking my horseshoe was calling out to them haha.  ;D

I've gotten ID'd less since I went sly, but it could be cause I go to the same two bars.

I've gotten both. The Lovely Mrs. Schro (and supposedly all of her friends) think I look older, although two of her very attractive friends think I look younger.

I just turned 43 yesterday.

Actually fairly often, mostly when I'm meeting other people in the organization.  Our company has several hundred people who work at various disasters and when you're getting to know the team at a site, age does come up.  I can't remember when such a conversation starts that they don't say, "You certainly don't look your age!"  I love it.  Only later when they know me better do they tell me to "act" my age.   ;D ;D ;D

When getting carded for a movie (R? NC-17? whatever the designation is these days) movie.  (OK, that was once five years ago, but still...)

When getting carded buying alcohol at the grocery store and the cashier checks my driver's license and says "Whoa! I was way off."

When I mention my wife's upcoming birthday (and age) at work to someone who's never met her but knows I've been married forever and get asked "Dude, how'd you score the old chick?"  ::)  (She's only one year older than I am.)

I have a funny story about a couple things that happened last night and this morning that I thought I'd share. First I went into the store this morning to get a can of skoal for my brother, I had never been to this store before and I had my ID ready and all that. Then the guy didnt even ask for my ID so after I paid for it I asked if he needed to see it and he simply said "You look like you are about 24 so no need to card you" then I told him I am only 19 and he was blown away.

Then last night I was at a dinner with family and friends and I saw my old teacher, he is one of the guys that inspired me to go Sly. He was with his new wife, I hadnt seen him in alittle over a year. When I first saw him I knew it was him but his wife looked old. He looks like he is maybe 32 or so and his wife looked like she was in her mid 40's. They were sitting right behind us and we were talking and everything then when it came time for them to order I overheard it and he ordered a beer and they ID'd him. Then the waiter was like "whoa you dont look 46". Then his wife ordered some wine and they didnt card her. When we were done he was saying how his wife always brags that she looks so much younger than he is but yet he is the one that got carded, it was hilarious.

J.J. - say it ain't so.  Your new unshaved avatar has aged you by about 10 years.  I think I'll keep shaving.  I generally get comments that I look like I'm in my mid-30's.  I'll take that.

Somewhere in the range of 20-40.  I've had patients think I'm 37?! O:O  I never get carded anymore, except when I'm wearing a beanie and I'm with my wife.  Then they think I'm 18  ???
