Title: One of the Last "real country music" stars has passed
Post by: hammerdrill376 on April 29, 2009, 06:04:53 PM
Sad to say but one of the last true country voices has passed. His name was Vern Gosdin. The story was on CMT

Years ago I worked as a bouncer at a country  night club in Myrtle Beach. There are two singers that came there who stand out in my mind. One was a young full of himself guy who was a GRADE A "A..Hole" named Garth Brooks. This was before he hit the big time.  The second however  was Mr. Gosdin. He was one of the nicest people I have ever met. Even after a two hour show and the bar had closed he invited those of us who wanted to come on his tour bus where we sat around, sang a variety of music with him and heard him tell stories of his life in the industry. Goodbye Vern. I for one will miss "The Voice."

I was so sorry to hear about this earlier today.  They didn't call him The Voice for nothing.  It's a shame that he never had the commercial success that he deserved.

I remember Vern when he played a concert here in Washington at that High School Gym.  I think I was around 10 years old or so
