Title: How is this for a swift kick in the rear...
Post by: Timmay on April 20, 2009, 08:23:05 PM
Sitting here tonight just relaxed after eating our dinner, my phone rings, its my dad.  He ask me if I knew that I was signed up to perform in front of 7000 people this weekend.  I was like... WHAT???!
Come to find out that I have to perform a solo using my shofar at this weekends One in Christ service.
Our local churches from all over southern indiana are getting together to have one huge church service this weekend at our local high school gym.  There are about 60+ churches participating in this event.  They are expecting between 7000-8000 people to attend this event.

I dont know about you all, but finding this out 5 days in advance is rather stressing.  I know I play this shofar for the Promise production we do at our church..sure I have done this in front of 500 but 7000 and having it televised on TV?

Pray for me...cause I am gonna need it.

Performing for 7000 is the same as performing for 10 people. You'll do all the same things, you'll play and play well. Just treat it like any other time you've done this and it'll breeze by. Stressing yourself over it won't help anyone, least of all you.

That being said 5 days notice isn't very cool at all.

Break a leg! O0

Here's my philosophy in performing in front of a crowd:  If you screw up, usually hardly anyone will notice.  Almost every week at church I'll hit a wrong note on the bass or keyboard.  There might be a couple skilled musicians in the crowd that may notice.  But for the most part, in my experience you have to really crash and burn for people to notice.

You'll do fine.

I usually find it more scary performing (in amatuer shows) in front of ten or twenty rather than a few hundred, and I'm sure a few thousand won't be much worse.  Just go for it and enjoy it.

One day we might be saying 'I knew him when...!' O0

Your gonna blow it bro. People will be covering their ears and screaming as they run for the exits!!!!
The Gym will catch on fire and  Fox News will be doing a live feed from outside on the event.
A tornado will blow through and a earthquake will open up beneath you and swallow you up... but no matter what keep playing. Remember the TITANIC!!!

Seriously man..... just think of me and all will work out  ;)

The shofar is a ram's horn which is blown somewhat like a trumpet. A total of 100 notes can be played from a shofar . There are four different types of shofar notes: tekiah, a 3 second sustained note; shevarim, three 1-second notes rising in tone, teruah, a series of short, staccato notes extending over a period of about 3 seconds; and tekiah gedolah (literally, "big tekiah"), the final blast in a set, which lasts (I think) 10 seconds minimum.

I  used to have a Pastor that thought too much time to worry was actually worse! At the time I  was travelling around the NE teaching and he would always wait until Saturday and ask if I could be ready to preach the next day. I hated it but in time I  saw his reasoning! It didn't leave me time  to be nervous or anything of the sort. Left me having to simply trust God and sharing what I had to share!!Point is? It always worked out. So don't worry bro it will go fine!!

Im sure it will all go fine.  I am just ready to do it I think.  Just get it done.  Its going to be a great service.  Maybe if I just bring my pink polka dotted blanket with me, I will be fine.  What ya think?

Yeah, Timm, take the blanket: then if it's being televised we'll all be able to see you in the crowd! O0 ;D
