Title: New shaver here
Post by: shaved26 on April 19, 2009, 11:00:59 PM
Whats up guys this is a great site.  Any tips you have for a new shaver.  I've been shaving for almost a month now.  I am beginning to hate it when the stubble comes in.  any tips to keep it smoother longer.  I have been shaving every day with a gillette fusion.  I love the feel of being smooth but later on in the day the stubble just comes back.  I guess thats how it is though.  Do you guys make sure and shave daily to keep it as smooth as possible or is there anything else you guys do?  I got a bit of a sunburn this weekend but still shaved it and it was worth the pain of just being smooth, even with sunscreen i still got burned, but it really looks good.  i hope to keep it up for a long time.  any advice would be appreciated

Welcome to SBG!  Remember to always apply the sunscreen every hour in the sun.

As for shaving, I shave everyday to keep it smooth.

Welcome bro. Another daily shaver here.  Keeping it smooth all depends on your personal rate of hair growth.   Though you may find that if you skip a day now and then you get a smoother, longer lasting shave.

Welcome to the Forum!

Shaving daily is the best path to nearly constant smoothness. I think skipping a day once every week or so gives your head a nice break.

Now that you are shaved you MUST make sunscreen one of your best friends!!

Welcome, shaved26.  I'm new to this place myself.  Been shaving my head for a little over a month.  I tried shaving every other day and now I'm shaving daily.  I will probably start skipping Saturdays just b/c I don't like shaving on the weekend (including face).  I, too, don't like the 'velcro' feeling so that's why I shave daily.  Ironically, my hair grows somewhat quick despite that its thin on top.

Definitely, put some sun screen on if you are going to be outdoors.  I've only tried the BaldGuyz SPF45 gel and it seems to work well...absorbs quickly without leaving your head greasy feeling.

You'll find a lot of good advice and nice folks in these forums.  So take it all in and don't be afraid to try new things but find what works best for you.

Post a pic so we can see the results.

Yep, have to agree with everyone, I shave every day. It's a terrible feeling when the stubble grows back, that's why every morning I usually hop in the shower and start my day with a smooth noggin.

I'm a daily shaver w/ Fusion and starting the day smooth really sets up my mood.  I find that I'm getting some sandpaper by 5-6p, but not the dreaded "velcro."  That's back in the morning.  I've found waiting about 30 minutes to an hour before shaving in the morning also helps keep it baby butt smooth longer, as well as shaving against the grain in a second pass.

Welcome.  I've backed it down to about 3 times per week.  A lot of people have commented that I look best with 2 or 3 day stubble.  So, I shave about once every three days.  Personally, I like it slick.  So, shaving less often has made the act of shaving kind of a feel-good event and less of a chore for me.

Welcome to SBG!I get sand paper by lunch time and I  shave every day. What I want to know is.....do any of you shave more than once a day. I shave in the morning but if we're going out that night I'll shave again. You'll find this often here but I think that most of us enjoy it!! I don't dread shaving, I actually enjoy it!!!Keep up the good work and the next thing you know you'll realilze that you're shaving all the time and can get it much closer with less time and effort.Hope that helps!!

I shave every day, usually.  Like today I didnt shave and I am hating myself right now.   I dont find it as a chore anymore.  If it took me as long as some of you say it does, then it would be a chore.  I can get a good smooth shave in the shower in about 3-4 minutes.  Of course shaving the noggin is the last thing I do in the shower, that way it is all nice and ready to go.  What we have to remember here, there is no wrong or right way in daily shaving.  Do what you feel is best.  It's just that if you want that smooth noggin look everyday, you are gonna have to shave it everyday.  Its just like mowing the grass.  If you have dandelions in your yard, sure you mow it and it looks all nice and smooth.  Wake up the next morning and those darned dandelions are standing tall and proud.  So you will have to get the mower out again and smooth that baby out!  lol  But the best solution for that is to attack them with weed killer
DONT USE WEED KILLER ON YOUR NOGGIN THOUGH, I think you will find that you will loose more than hair!

Hey shaved!

Welcome aboard, man.  Glad to have you with us at SBG.

I, too, am a daily shaver who loves that smooth bowling ball feel you get after shaving the noggin.  Like you I dread the velcro feel....but it goes with the turf....the hair grows back and its got to be mowed down again.

Reading the threads suggested in earlier posts would be very helpful to you.  Also, post your own routine when you feel ready to do so.  One thing that helps with getting a real smooth dome is to exfoliate frequently, I do so every day.  I also use "shave secret," a shaving oil under the shave cream and I think that also helps with getting a close shave.

Enjoy experimenting, bro, it's part of the fun of being sly.

Welcome to SBG's shaved26, good to have you join us.

Shaving daily is the only way to keep it smooth, but it is nice to take a break now and then, like Mike said. I'll usually let it go for about two days every other week or so.

When you next shave, it is a beautiful, close and super smooth noggin you end up with.

Do what works best for you, experiment with different blades and gels, creams etc.

Like boston mentioned, it's part of the fun that's added to being sly.  O0

Keep it smooth, and post a pic when you can.

Welcome in!  I'm a daily shaver for the most part.  Ocaasionally i skip on Saturdays and find that I do stay smother longer for a couple of days after.  Might be my imagination?  But for the most part it's every day.
