I did a search and couldnt find this topic on motorcycles on SBG. Just wondering how many here ride off-road bikes and if any were
KTM fans. I understand there are some pretty good buys at the dealers on off-road bikes all over the country now given the current economy. I am considering adding a KTM 450 EXC and possibly the KTM 250 or 300 2-stroke to my garage if prices are right and BEFORE the obama carbon taxes/fees hit. Does anyone ride any of these bikes or like KTMs(or do any off-road riding)

I'm a big fan of KTM. I don't own one, but I ride my dad's when I go up to the parent's place. He has a 520 EXC I used to ride a lot growing up. Had a bike through college, and then sold it because some guy offered me a ridiculous price for it. It was a Honda XR 400. Two strokes are not allowed in Cali, so we have to ride 4 strokes.
We used to be a family of Honda riders until KTM started becoming popular. They're great bikes!

I've heard nothing but great things about the KTM. I had a Suzuki DRZ400 until this spring. Looking into new dirt bike now for the summer riding. Brother-in-law is sold on Honda's but I would really be interested in hearing what you find out about the KTM

I've been out of it for quite some time, so I'm not familiar with the KTM.
When I was in high school I had several dirt bikes. My favorite was a Honda Elsinore 250 2-stroker. That thing sounded like a chain saw and had unbelievable power. I would love to get another dirt bike and my new house is near mountain trails that go for 5 miles.
Although at 49 maybe I'm better suited for a quad ...

I was talking to a biker buddy who wants to compete in some race up in the Rockies, and he said all the serious contenders had KTMs. O0
I have another biker buddy who is into dual sport and swears by the older (pre-2008) Kawasaki KLR 650. He's driven all over South America and swears by that model. 8)
There are a number of sites that have reviews on the KTM bikes, such as:

I hope this helps you in your quest, young bike rider.
