as you can see from my avatar ive recently grown a pretty long beard (about 2 inches). should i trim it like i used to have it or keep it? all my friends are saying it needs trimmed, but i kind of like it for some reason.
-
Here's the rule partner. If you like it keep it.
-
I usually come down on the side of trimming, but I like it the way it is. Suits you much better than the chinstrap beard, BTW.
-
You should grow it longer. Then braid it, that would frikken rock!
Mine's so dang gray that I usually trim it fairly short.
-
I'm not a fan of facial hair, mainly because I can't grow any! LOL
Looks fine to me the way it is.

i was actually thinking of doing that lol. although its not the most conservative look.

I'm not a fan of the braided look but if you want to do it, go for it. You don't need a "conservative" look at age 20. Right now you can get away with pretty much anything. That won't always be the case, so enjoy yourself while you can.
-
Go for it bro. What you need to learn is ...you need to do what makes you feel good. Looks fine to me. I am not a fan of longer beards myself but it looks good on others who do. Good Luck
-
Dude It looks great as is. I'd say no on braids but that's just me. You got a Scott Ian thing started right now. lol
-
I think it kinda suits you the way it is. It also looks like you have a pretty full beard, so I would be curious how you would look with a trimmed full beard vs. the chin strap. Like the others have said, you're young, so now's the time to try whatever you feel like.
-
Whatever makes you the most confident.
-
Keep it, I'm actually praying that mine eventually gets to that length, it's taking way too long. Looks good brother O0
-
Whatever floats your boat! Go for it O0

Or you can do something like I did about 8 or 9 years ago. I had my goatee almost 3 inches long and I would change it regularly, gelled into one spike or two, and I was dying it also. That was only for a summer and unfortunately I don't have any pics, but it WAS unique...
-
It looks cool. I like that length, but not sure about it being longer still: you'll have to ask our opinions when it gets longer!
Just always do what YOU want, when it comes to appearance, that's what I say. It don't matter what others think in the end. But its lookin good at the moment O0
-
you actually want an honest opinion from a guy who cuddles with a pink polka doted blanket??? lol
-
So you're 20. Don't do what I did at that age. I always listened to everyone else, therefore I missed out on doing a lot of things.
I'm now over 60 and regret not have all the fun of appearance changes. Please do as you want and hang everyone's opinion. Believe me, life is short and you can't live your life for other people. Just live it to the limit!!!!

Aren't you in school, college or something? Who cares if it isn't conservative. If you are out in the workforce, then yeah.. I guess your right. IF you are, then I would suggest keeping the beard cropped short.
-
Ghost, listen to Papa Don, he has it right. Do what you want for you.
You're a young guy, you should be having fun, experimenting and living life.
Good points by BReady as well; if you're not in a conservative type of job, then don't worry about it. If you aren't sure, then ask some people who you work with for an opinion.
Ease up dude, and enjoy yourself! O0
-
Have fun and grow it out. Years from now you may be in a job or have a wife that won't let you do it.
I think the longest I got mine was around 2 inches. I could put a rubber band around it.
-
I like longer, but stragglers cleaned up so it doesn't look ragged. Yours looks fine. I'm new to this--or at least it's been a very long time--so I'm going for a fuller more developed look, maybe even keep it so the tache can be curled at the end.
Do what feels good for you, get outside the "comfort zone" and try something new. There are some good examples at beard.org you might want to look at for ideas.
-
I, maybe even keep it so the tache can be curled at the end.
Can I curl it for you?? LOL
-
Definitely go for whatever YOU want, ghost.
Like Papa Don was saying, at 20 I didnt tend to do what I wanted. I did what other people wanted and thought was best.
Its only within the last five or six years I've actually been doing what I wanted and looking how I want to look. I was 'scared' of upsetting people or standing out in a crowd (or rather, THINKING I would stand out in a crowd) so I didnt 'express myself' by being and looking how I wanted to be...But you can't live your life for other people...
That just leads to regrets later on, and changing your appearence gets harder as you get older. As you can see from the thread 'before and after', I changed my 'image' a lot over the last few years, and I'm really glad I had the ba££$ to do so! I think its been an improvement, and that's all that matters. If people love and respect you they will soon accept you how you are, if not, they werent worth knowing in the first place.
Go for it while you still can, and do what YOU want, bro O0
-
go for the braid, like razorx said, you are only young once...
I think the braid would be sweet if you have the patience to grow it.
-
I, maybe even keep it so the tache can be curled at the end.

Timmj, sometimes you really scare me. Long answer short, NO.
