Ok yesterday one of my close friends on yahoo messenger signed in and without saying hi or anything sent me this link in a pm. 10 seconds later he signed out. I clicked on the link and it got me to some nonsense web-site. The link was supposed to show some photos he look over the weekend but the link had none of that when I clicked on it. (i.e. when he signed in he said "here are last weekend's photos"....but we never had a discussion that he would be taking pictures over the weekend) I have Norton and I suspect this was a virus because he never talked to me for the whole night.
In fact, 5 minutes laster he signed in again and sent me another nonsense link and signed out immediately.
Should I be worried?

Today's New York Times had an article about a super worm that is out there taking over computers--some very smart but criminal activity is going on. Check www.nyt.com

It's probably a good time to do a virus scan.

That sounds like a malware or spyware attack. Try downloading malwarebytes from malwarebytes.org. Its free and finds stuff that most anti virus programs won't. And try Ad-aware also, run both of them and make sure they're updated. You may need to do this in safe mode also.

I'm also a recent fan of Malwarebytes.
By the way.... your Norton sucks. That's what I have and when I got a Trojan that snuck past Norton, their customer service told me they would be glad to remove it for $99.
I told them to pound sand, came on here and asked for help. Tom (THeir) suggested Malwarebytes. I downloaded and ran it. It found the trojan and 3 other things that snuck past Norton!!!!! It also let me delete these nasties!!!!
I'm a big fan of MWB!
And Norton will be gone as soon as I decide what I want to get to replace it.

Norton sucks, I use Zone-Alarm mainly plus a plethora of other things. Just don't have 2 anti virus programs running at once, it causes problems
