Hi All
Since I started shaving my head a few months ago I have had a few people ask me why I stopped having a very close buzz (0 or even a bit less) and went to a completely smooth shave. This started me thinking more about it and these are my reasons. After all, you would think that the differences in going from a 0 to full shave would be very minimal.
I found the change in feeling, despite loosing only a little hair, absolutely wonderful, and hard to describe. It is also strange what effect it has on your appearance, let alone an indefineable change in your approach to the world. I'm, unfortunately, not the most handsome guy around but I think the true bald look makes me feel much more confident and look better. Simply rubbing your dome and feeling small breezes across the head and neck, and rain drops on the head, are just so good.
Anyone disagree, or have other feelings to express?

True words. It is something that you have to experience to understand. It truly is "A bald thing... You wouldn't understand"... at least until you exeriece it for yourself

Shaved clean usually makes me feel better looking too...and like you , I'm not the most handsome dude on the block!
Funny how a bald head can make you feel that way though!

Yep, that's why even if you keep it buzzed, you just have to try the full shave at least once to grasp what a difference that slick bald SLY is all about. Then you've truly earned your hall pass!

shaved my head just prior to browsing these forums. Tis truly an awesome feeling having a fresh clean shaven head

Sorry to be the contrarian, but I tried shaving with a razor three or four times, and did not like it at all. :( It was just too weird a feeling. Now add about 2 days worth of stubble and there's a hairstyle I can enjoy. O0 I post this not to diss anyone, but to point out esp. to the new guys that, yes, you might not like the razor-shaved head, and that's OK. To each his own. :)

My vote is for shaved and smooth like a baby's bottom. As to what was said before, cool breezes, rain and rubbing rules! You have to love it!!

Shaved smooth is the way to go. ( even though I am sitting here this morning with 24 hours of growth...damn i hate it when I get up late!)

Absolutely. Its a feeling I cant put into words. Only once you experience it can you truly understand.

PS Dont you just love it when your t shirt glides easily over your freshly shaved dome O0 and hate it when it gets stuck because of the *&!&*^ velcro effect :Xo! >:(

I used to sport a tight buzz, but once I shaved to the bone I knew that I would never go back. Now when I wake in the morning and can feel the velcro I can't wait to turn the noggin into a bowling ball. But to each his own, of course.

That's funny. I thought I was the only one that that bothered.

Physically there is not much difference between a tight buzz and shaved but mentally it is like two different worlds.

It's kind of like owning a Harley Davidson. You can own 50 different bikes in your life but until you own a Harley you just won't understand what it's all about.

I've always said there is a disproportionate difference between no-guard buzz and shaved -- a greater difference than the removal of that little bit of stubble can account for. But for me, the two are miles apart. There is simply nothing like a slick, bare, smooth, SLY noggin for me.

For me its gotta be slick and smooth. It really is a world away from a close buzz. I feel scruffy if my dome is covered with stubble, and clean and cool (in both ways! 8)) when its smooth! O0

I buzzed my head for about 6 months before I started shaving it. There are ups and downs to both. Buzzing is lower maintenance since it doesn't make the dome completely smooth.
I went on a three week vacation, often camping without electricity so I started shaving it, and I couldn't go back after experiencing that a few weeks.
I love how smooth and shiny my head becomes after a nice shave. O0
In the public perception of the "haired masses" buzzing and shaving would be pretty close. But I like them to think like my nephew does, that I just have no hair sprouting from my head at all, just eyebrows. So I'm a sly man.
