Hello all. I have been a lurker for the past couple months now and have learned lots. My name is Michael, I am 19 and I live near the WA/ID border. I am not bald yet but I have been thinking about shaving ever since my girlfriend pointed out that my hair is starting to recede which I started to notice around Christmas. Ever since then it has been bugging me. I had my hair buzzed down when I was in kindergarten but other than that I have never had my head shaved down.
I like the bald look and I think I might be able to pull it off. I think its because I have been thinking about it more but it seems that there are tons of bald guys around here. Like the guy I just got my new (used) laptop was bald and he looked cool. I am debating on when to do it. Right now I am looking for a job so I dont really want to do it now. I was thinking about waiting until the summer or my 20th birthday (in July) but then I will probably have a white head and a tan face.
One of the main things preventing me from doing it right now is family/friends. Most of them dont really like the bald look. My oldest brother is another thing that made me want to, if you have older siblings you know what I mean, always wanting to be like an older brother. He started shaving when he was 18 and didnt stop until last year when his new girlfriend suggested that he grows it out.
Now alittle about me. I am the youngest of 3 boys. I was born and raised in Spokane. I went to school in Spokane until the end of my sophmore year, then the school turned bad so I drove a half hour each way to a little podunk town called Deer Park just to go to school to finish up. I was in FFA which was fun and I learned more than I thought I would. I lived with my parents until the beginning of January when I couldnt pay rent any more so now I live with my second oldest brother about 3 miles from the state line. I am looking for a job right now, preferably here in WA at a feed store or something fun like that. I used to have lots of pheasants until I moved out so I sold them all which is where I got my user name. Lophura is the latin name for some awesome pheasants, it includes the silvers, kalij, firebacks, and some others. I like hunting and fishing. I basically live at our lake house over in Idaho during the summer.
I am a 'genetics junkie' as some friends say. One of the reasons I like chickens so much is because there are so many possibilities when crossing. Before I moved I was working with some mille fluer dutch bantams. When I had them I managed to seperate out blue mille fluer, blue buff columbian, buff columbian, citroen, and I was working on getting cuckoo. I did that all with a foundation of 3 roosters and 6 hens over about 5 years with no other birds introduced. I am always thinking of easy ways to get new varieties or ways to improve existing colors. Right now I am wanting to get a pet but not just a cat or a dog, I was thinking about fox but I dont think I could have just one because there are many colors that I would want and plus I think I need a permit here in WA.
I could write more but I just realized how long this already is.

Thanks. This forum is filled with information. And I didnt know you have a members only section and a jokes section, its awesome. I was just reading about headblade and all so I went to their site and found out that Walgreens sells their stuff. I am only about 5 or 10 minutes away from a walgreens. As my brother just pointed out, I need a haircut so I think I may just buzz it down and save $15.
I am suprised that there are so many products out there. I think when I go to shave I might try the glossy stuff, my uncle always has a shiny head and it just hit me that he may already have experience with some of this stuff.

Wow thanks everyone. This site is very active. I will post pics when I do it. The more I read stuff on this site the more I want to shave it off sometime soon.

Welcome, Michael. Thanks for all the info in your intro - you sound like a cool guy.
It's too bad that your bro's g/f is having him grow his hair out - but if it's cool with him, more power to him. It would be sweet if you guys could sport the bare domes together. You could go sly on the same day O0
Enjoy the forum, and good luck.

I know, I am going to talk to him about it, it'd be awesome.
What part of Washington are you in? I noticed your lisence plate thing.

Grew up in Redmond, currently living in Woodinville, and plan to move to Seattle this summer. You got a lot of snow over on the eastside?
-
The snow has been melting slowly. We have been getting a dusting in the mornings but it just melts away. I am so ready for spring.

I hear ya. That also means baseball season.. or depression - whether or not the M's look good this year.
-
Your M's should win somewhere in the mid 70s gamewise.

Welcome, Michael -- great intro.
Sounds like you've got the itch to take it down to the wood. And when you've got that itch, there's only one way to scratch it! Keep us informed.

Welcome to SBG's Michael, good to have you with us.

Great intro Michael. So how long did your brother shave, and what was the reaction? I'm assuming not good? Have you asked him his thoughts about you shaving. I'll bet he'd be supportive, or at least shoot down any negative comments coming your way. Keep us updated, and welcome.
-
He shaved for about 10 years or so. I never really noticed any negative reactions to him shaving. I havent asked him his thoughts yet, I never really thought about asking. I am thinking about doing it here in a couple weeks maybe before spring so my head will have time to "color up". I think I will just have to do the 30 day challenge and if I like it enough others will just have to live with it.
