Hey guys,
As you know I am doing graduate studies in economics. I obtained a 4 year bachelor's degree in pure mathematics & a minor in economics. My long-term goal is to be a high school teacher so that I can get the full
months of July & August off work. It's not that I'm a lazy guy but I really want a job that will give me time to enjoy with my (unborn) children. I really want to become a father some day because I think it will be the best thing to happen to me.
After one of my classes today I was talking to a classmate, and she said for most people 2 weeks off is enough time and that they get bored so they want to go back to work. I really haven't worked full-time in the past, except in undergraduate studies I was a teaching assistant.
So, I ask you, how much time off does your boss let you have? Are you happy with that amount?
And if you can answer this one it would be even better: Do you get to spend enough time with your children, if you have any? Thanks.

I get 28 days a year, but my boss makes it extremely difficult for me to use. I have been maxed out for a while (allowed to carry over 42 days each year). Personally, I'd rather have an increase in pay than more days off for this very reason.

I get 365 days..... :D ......but when I was working , I got 4 weeks a year or 20 days plus 8 or 9 paid holidays.....

As a teacher I have 11 weeks in summer. 16 days at Christmas, 9 days for spring break and generally one three day weekend a month for federal holidays. I can't think of a better career for someone with kids than a teacher or professor. You are home with them for all their time off.

Being self-employed, I get zero vacation days. During the last 14 years, I've taken 2 weeks off. Took 1 week off in 1995 and 1 week off in 2002 for my honeymoon (second marriage). I'm so used to not taking vacation time that I don't miss it, although I will have to slow down at some point.
During the summer we go away almost every weekend -- so that serves as my summer vacation.

I get 10 business days, or two weeks. It never seems like enough though. I usually take five days off each year for balloon fiesta because I enjoy it so much. I would take as many as I could get if they would let me.

3 Weeks time off (this includes sick time) plus 8 holidays.

I get 15 days a year. It's earned on an hourly basis (even though I'm salary). I get about 4.3 hours every two weeks, so it totals up to 15 days a year. It carries over with a cap of 400 or so hours, and after that you have to take it or lose it. When I quit or retire they will pay me for the days.
I'm stingy with taking vacation. You never know when something could come up and I may want it. I've got about 200 hours now (which is 20 days since we work 4-10hour days per week). I have a lot more vacation than my friends who started working here at the same time.
We have seperate sick time that's counted a little differently.
My job is flexible. I've never been denied time off. I had an out-of-town meeting last night, so I just told them I was leaving early and coming in late today.

I have no idea. I've been at my job since 2004 and just take the occasional vacation now and then. We do a lot of company golf trips, excursions, etc... throughout the year as well. I'm sure they'd start raising eyebrows if I took 3 vacations in 6 months but as long as I do my job, my employers are very flexible with time off.
I feel blessed and don't ever want it to end.

I get 5 weeks of vacation/sick days, plus holidays and the week off between Christmas and New Years. Sweet!!!

I teach 4th grade so I get the summer off and of course winter break for Christmas and spring break. It is nice having the breaks and I can go and do things that I want. I don’t have any children of my own but if I did I would have time to spend with them. However, as a teacher I have found that I do spend my off time “working” on lesson plans or educating myself further. Usually during my summer months off I take a “working” vacation and better myself further for my students. It works great for me being single but I bet it would still work for you as a Dad.

i get two seven day "vacations" every month. i also get seven days paid (which i can take for a total of 21 off in a row. if i choose.) 8 sick/personal days. so i really can't complain. work half the year and still get more days off.

well before i got sick and then came BACK to work , i worked 6 days a week and got 14 paid vacation days SO... during the summer months june/july/aug i would take 1 vacation day a week so then i had fri.sats off EVERY week during the summer so it was like having 14 mini vacations which i loved as well as the boss not having to have someone double shift to cover my shift for 2 weeks it was easy to get it covered only 1 day a week
