Let me start this with I am not someone that is easily offended. I have a pretty thick skin and tend to just let things roll off my back. BUT.......
There is a commercial for some cereal, I think it is Cheerios. Where the box says that it is low in fat and the wife is eating it. The husband comes in and says something completely common like "are you watching your weight?" Well the wife gets all puffy with him. If you haven't seen it, I'm sure it is on youtube somewhere. Anyway, they wind up reading the box and at the end the wife asks what else does the box say? He replies "shut up Steve". :Xo!
Anyway, that commercial just burns me UP!!!! (and no it's not because my name is Stephen) I told my wife, if I was him I'd have to let her have it. That commercial is rolls all over me. I don't why it burns me up so bad. I think it's because it is such an obvious stab at men in general. Just because I am a guy doesn't mean I'm a bafoon. Besides she was eating cereal that states plain as day that it is low in fat! Anybody else seen that commercial? What's your opinion?

Stephen you are not alone, I hate that commercial. It makes the husband look like a big whimp and the wife a b.

i actually saw that commercial last week and thought the same thing. i was like "whys the dude letting his wife walk all over him? he didnt even say anything that bad"?
-
I have a pretty big mouth and tend to say things that other people are thinking. I also have this annoying habit of telling the truth. Hard and brutal.
I told my wife that I would have to put her in her place. My wife isn't like that woman in the commercial thankfully.
I'm getting pissed off thinking about it! LOL

Bill O'Reilly had something about this on his show last night. I wonder why this is just coming up now -- that commercial has been out for a long time.
To answer your question, no, I am not offended by it. I do, however, find it to be annoying in the extreme. What an obnoxious woman!

Based on what I saw in the commercial, I hope she was using fat free milk.

I always keep hoping that the commercial will end with her asking, "What else does the box say, Steve" and Steve responds, "It says shut the f**k up, bitch!" >:D

I'm glad I'm not the only one that finds that ad disturbing.
-
Seriously, think about the subliminal message being sent to women that it's ok to talk down to their husband or boyfriend.
-
Male bashing has become widespread. There is a yogart commercial where a woman (B-) is on the phone talking about the flavors she has eaten and still loosing weight. The husband overhears and is looking in the frig for the items. She turns and looks annoyingly at him and ask "what are you doing?" Burns me no end!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I am glad to see that I am not the only one who hates these commercials. Just think of the uproar if the shoe was on the other foot and there was a guy talking down to a woman. I can just imagine how that would go over. It would be demanded to be taken off the air.
-
It seems that lately many t.v shows and ads make the husband look like an ass clown I actually noticed it many years ago, even my wife noticed it.

Same here Raz, this commercial annoys me as well. Men are already made to look like idiots enough. Don't get me started! lol. :x!
Good points by the way, Stephen. O0

Maybe someone can do a spoof on that one and post it on the internet. I can't stand that commercial, but it is just one of many examples of male bashing, whether it be 'men are stupid' or 'men are pigs.' If that isn't bad enough, just about every kid show portrays parents (especially fathers) as total idiots and kids as totally disrespectful to their parents. There are very few strong male/father figures anywhere in mass media. Although a lot of those 1950's shows may seem quite corny these days, at least the men weren't shown in that light.

I always thought I was alone and I completely, agree! I hate, hate, HATE that commercail! I also hate the phone commercails with the mother nagging her son about old minutes (makes no sens) and the other for a car where the same woman yells at her son for taking a 500,000 mile joy ride in her VW and when the boy explains she pulls at, makes a B**chy comment and drives away. These commercails demonstrate woman talking down, not listening to reason and being plan rude!

Here is the commercial:

There is nothing wrong with the conversation he is having with his wife. It is just one more bash at men. This is too accepted in our society and soon husbands will be seen as not worth any more then do the housework and turn his paycheck over to his wife. Try making just one negative comment about wives and you get sued for sexism.
And when she asks "do I look like I need to watch my weight?" the truth is....YES she does!
