My "Big Wheel". I grew up in a small town and me, my brother and a couple of other boys ran that town on our big wheels. We went everywhere on them. We wore the wheels right off of them.
We rode those more than our bikes.

Matchbox cars

'Space Hoppers' were those blow up things made of rubber that you sit on and bounce around on - they were orange and a real fad in the 1970's. Also pogo sticks. Maybe its a British thing?
-
Probably my Tonka trucks and erector set. When I turned 8 I got my first BB gun like Ralphie... O0

Match Box cars for me. I kept them in outstanding shape. I always washed and dried them off after playing with them.
Once I got a little older I packed them in their Maychbox case and stored it away. About fifteen years ago my Dad started collecting Match Box and other small cars..... and my 40 or so cars were the first he built a display for.
He's already willed them to my son.............

My neighbor's daughter Katie..........my favorite toy!
Also loved my baseball bat & glove, legos, and my radio that was shaped like the Apollo lunar module (even though we never actually went to the moon). Loved listening to Mystery Theater.
-
I didn't really have a favorite. I loved my glow worm, chubble, popple, Carebears, light bright, and the original Polly pockets

A stick. Don't laugh, you can do a lot with a stick and little imagination.

Which reminds me of another favorite childhood toy ... a cardboard box!!!
-
Another one is a big box! My parents bought a new refrigerator one time. Me and my brother played in the big box for weeks. We turned it into a space station. LOL
Nothing entertains my kids now like a cardboard box.
-
;D ;D GOOD ONE!!! how can one 4get the classic cardboard box. O0

For me it was either a new TV (console of course!) or dishwasher, washing machine, etc!! By the time we got a new refrigerator I was in college. You lucky son of a gun!!
-
We had a blast in that box! Dishwasher, washing machine. They were all great.
TV boxes aren't big enough to play in anymore. I feel sorry for kids now lol
-
BUBBLE WRAP! No thats a good keep'em busy for a while toy. I bring it home all the time and they are rippin it out of my hands before I even get in the door.
-
My red London bus! Brmm Brmm :D
-
My dad's hammer !
-
This is truly the saddest (meaning most pathetic) thread I've seen in a long time. I'm sorry you were all so poverty stricken that the height of amusement was a box or a stick >:D Just kidding guys. I didn't know I was from an affluent family who could afford real toys.
For me (and this is telling my age) it was my Strombecker 1/32 scale slot car set and my Kenner Girder and Panel Building set. If you've never heard of them, check out eBay.

WHAT! you had real toys? heck we even had to build our own toys half the time. My dad was always getting mad at us when we would ruin a whole sheet of plywood to make a ramp for our wagon that was tied on the back of our bikes..lol
-
I really liked the Gilbert toys. I still have my Gilbert telescope (80X reflector). I also had the Gilbert Microscope and the transistor radio kit.
...and, yes, I'm still a nerd after all these years...
On the other hand, a hole in the ground with a roof over it made of boards and sticks made a really great fort.
Also, for hours of fun, you can't beat swinging on a rope hung from a tree branch, especially if it swung out over water..
-
my dad always used to say toys were wasted on us, because after a few days we'd thrown the toy aside and were playing with (or in!) the box it had come in!! :D ;D
-
playing in/with the box? How come I never tried that before?...............oh wait my father would throw the box away immediately.
-

Now you know what happened to those long-lost siblings you've been looking for. :*))
-
Pocket knife my grandfather gave me and my brother "big red" we called it, we used it to build just about damn near everything.
-
A X-Wing fighter and the Death Star were my favorite toys as a kid. I was shocked to see them and other Star Wars toys in a musuem the other day. I almost thought I was getting old, but just for a second. ;D
-
I remember just loving my big red wagon.
-
My favorite was a Thundercats "Sword of Omens"! It was awesome, the eye of thundera would light up and the sword got bigger when you did the whole "THUNDER. THUNDER. THUNDERCATS HO!!!!!!
Ahh it was a simpler time....it was a better time O0
-
I was more of a HE-MAN kid myself.
Though his sword wasn't as good and the transformation from Prince Adam to He-Man despite the dramatics was just getting a TAN!!!
-

-

man, that just sounds wrong. something tells me that Christmas at the Timmay household is an event to never forget. haha.
my favorite toy growing up was a tie between my Erector set and my books. I was a total nerd, and read all the freaking time. But my teachers would get upset with me because i never wanted to read Mr Poppers Penguins and silly crap like that. I was wanting to read stuff like The Catcher in the Rye and Fahrenheit 451.

Weren't the originals taken of the market due to a safety concern ?

OMG - Yes! I forgot all about the Girder and Panel Building Set - I got one for my 5th birthday (48 years ago). I could create a Jetsons "City of the Future" with that conglomeration of plastic pieces that today's kids would be guaranteed to choke on. I played with it so much that eventually all the corners broke off the panels and I had to use scotch tape to hold my skyscrapers together.
-
I was a toy soldier boy. I used to set up a vast produced battlefields and income war. I liked also legos and puppets.
-
Micro Machines
GI Joes
Toy guns
Legos
and Nintendo/SNES

Here was one of my favorites!
Playmobile Dashboard - Deluxe Reading 1961 - Much larger than the Firebird 99. Very detailed. Battery powered. Working motor, 2 wiper blades, sun visors, directional signals & horn. Gauges and key for ignition.
