Title: getting a better shave?
Post by: mikey_g on January 12, 2009, 11:29:25 PM
Um ive wanted to know how to get a closer shave. Ive been shavin for like 4 months now and i noticed that when im done shaving i can still see hair and that the 3 blade razor ive been using isnt getting close enough and i can still feel hair that the razor cannot get off no matter what direction i go over it. any tips? I usually go against the grain to get as close as i can even though i do get just a few cuts.

Welcome, Mikey.  What kind of razor and shave gel are you using.  I use a fusion and bald guyz shave gel and get a "baby's butt" smooth shave everytime.  Let us know your routine.

Welcome to the Forum Mike! Post up that routine and maybe we can offer some pointers.

HeadSlick or BaldGuyz shave gel for me... removed by the HeadBlade...........

It's Shave Secret shaving oil for me under HeadSlick shave gel and a Quattro razor.  For some reason, the Fusion draws blood on me.  I never get a nick with the Quattro.

Shave Secret Oil + Headblade (Atra doubles) = smooth-slick for me

Welcome to SBg's mikey_g, you've come to the right place for info.

I would recommend trying out various razor and blade combo's to see what works best for you. That is how most of us have found our main setup.

I alternate my blades and cream, gel or oil. But my mainstays are HeadSlick and Bald Guyz Ultimate gel.
I also use my HeadBlade's (sport and classic), with the Atra plus or generic equivalent, or the Sensor excel or triple blade. I just can't get a good shave with the regular sensor cartridge, for some reason.
There are many blades to try out there, and even some of the disposables work very well. Schick Extreme III for one, and I use that as well.

Experiment and you will find what works best for your scalp and hair type.

Good luck and keep it smooth.       O0

well actually i dont even use any type of shaving cream or gel. I usually shave it all off in the shower so it dont really stay on. Ive also never heard of any of those products made for bald men except the headblade. Routine for me is just shower and let the hairs get soft and then start in the back goin up to the top against the grain, same on the sides goin up then finishing the top and whats left on the sides out of the shower as usual goin against the grain. Right now im usign a Gillette Sensor 3 blade which works pretty good but like ive said i can still see some hair and feel a little in the back. Ive been told though, that since im new to shaving this is normal and that it takes awhile to get it to look sqeaky clean. Hope this helps.

Ok, a shower shaver like me...now here's something that'll help...it's all is prep..

at the START of your shower, apply shaving cream (rubbing it in GOOD) leave it while you wash up..

then reapply (if you need to)...then shave against the grain..

the steam, shaving creme and rubbing it in and letting it sit will soften your skin, will get you a closer, shave  less shadow...

I know these things.... I'm old skool SLY!O0
