I know this may sound silly but I shave my face with a DE and use shaving soap. I got the urge to see how it would work with my Nivea Extreme Comfort and now I am sold on it. The suds actually allow the allow to work better and it allows for really smooth and easy passes and no nicks on my dome because I let it sit there while I shave my face first. One day I thought I would just use Nivea gel buy itself and it did not work as well.
>:D

Doesn't sound silly at all. I use shaving soap and a de on my face as well. Wish I could figure out how to use a de on my head as well but I'm still using my headblade classic and a touch up with a cheap disposable triple blade. I haven't used the Nivea but what I have been doing is using a little headblade slick on my head and face and then lather up with my soap and brush. Works great for me. Sometimes I'll use just C.O. Bigelow Premium Shave Cream that I got from the Bath and Body Shop that I lather up in a hot bowl. That's my REAL treat shave. Use to use Proaso but can't find it around here anymore. But no, using the shaving soap on your face IS NOT silly. For me it's the only way to go!

I've been thinking of getting a disk of shaving soap and using in when I travel. I've got a trip coming up and I think I'll do that--it will save valuable space in my one quart plastic bag for liquids, etc. Thanks for the good report O0.

Pure glycerin soap. Slick as heck, cheap - buy it at a craft store where they sell it for making the pretty little "don't use that, it's for looks" soaps.
It works well in a mug with a brush, also.

I have used Williams shaving soap and a badger hair brush for 2 years with great results.

I have now traveled w/ shaving soap, my brush and either baby oil or Shaving Secret. Great for the "Carry-On" crowd O0 O0 O0--the soap doesn't take space in the 1 quart bag that gets really small when you take into account anything else you need, contact lense solution, etc. I use one of the glasses provided in the room and just stick it in a drawer for the duration of my stay so the maid doesn't toss it. Hopefully the staff really washes the glass when I leave or the taste may be a bad # on the next guest. It's not quite as good as my Headslick shave at home, but Headslick isn't available in "flying" size containers, and other gels take a whole lot of room.

I use Williams occasionally too, bro O0

SaintC, Headblade started selling the travel size 2oz bottles but you have to get them from their website.

Good to know, and I know it's hard to score shelf space in stores, but 2oz., WTF--the limit is 3, so who had the brain f_rt on that one :/O :/O

saint, you can also pick up special travel size bottles that can hold all your shaving creams/lotions at any drug store (CVS, Walgreen's, etc.), I've also seen them at Walmart and Target.
They will fit nicely in the one quart ziploc bag required at the checkpoint.
You can label them with a sharpie so you will know your Headslick from your Headlube, lol. ;)
And if you come through Sky Harbor, give me a shout.

I've got a nice collection of those, very handy. The contact solution wouldn't work because of contaminents, but they are good.

The great thing about the 2oz HeadBlade bottles is that you can buy them once and then refill them with your bigger bottles when you need to travel.

Before I got into English luxury shaving creams I'd put a small dollop of Head Slick on top of the cake of Williams and whip it up with my brush.
Made really good slippery lather.

Williams is great. I like to use either a shave soap or gel on my head and a cream on my face. Seems like my head gets too much moisture when I use a shave cream and gets oily. Soaps give you a REAL close shave too! 8)

RWARD:
I agree. I always have a couple of cakes of Williams shave soap on hand (do they make two types?). I keep it in a plastic mug. It lathers great with super hot water and a soft shaving brush, is really cheap and gives a close, clean shave. I tend to use it on days I can take my time since it take a few minutes more to get prepped, but the result is well worth it. Nothing fancy, but traditional old-school product that gets the job done nicely.
COONCATBOB:
I'll have to give the drop of Headslick on top of the cake soap a try. Do you just use a small amount?

Thanks to rward for the tip on Williams shaving soap. Went to CVS after reading his blog. Picked up Williams shave soap and a good brush. Got in the shower put Fusion thermal gel, shaved face, rinsed applied Williams soap with brush added Bald Guyz shave gel shaved and oh what a wonderful feeing. Rubbed the dome this morning and still smooth. I love this new routine thanks Rward. :@`
