I'll be in Atlantic City with my buddy Logan and our wives having a House Of Blues Rockin' New Year with the Goo Goo Dolls. Then it's on to Jerry Blavat's dinner dance at the Trump Taj Mahal.

We're goiing to my friend George's house for a party. George is also a SLY guy..........

We always get together with a few couples and make a great dinner and have a few cocktails. Low-key and nearby...hate being out that night and being around people trying to make the night more than what it is. Does that make sense?

Rob, you make GREAT sense. I call New Years Eve, "Amatuer Night" because too many people become 8ft tall and bullet proof on that particular night of the year.
That is exactly why I'll be at my friend's house for a night of pool, whiskey, and cigars! O0

After many years of going wild on NYE, my wife and I just like to stay home and relax after all of the hustle and bustle of the holidays.
We have large families and Christmas wears us out. We held a small after-Christmas party at our house tonight, and may hold one more before New Years. Then, it's time to just chill and relax on New Years Eve and day. I'm looking forward to it ...
-
After going out to another Christmas gathering today I am gettng a little worn out. My wife and I don't make a big deal out of New Year's anymore. We will be home relaxing and most likely be sleeping before midnight....lol...
-
Like many of my neighbors I refuse to go out on "amateur's night" so we are having a neighborhood party. Food, drinks, games and then a short walk home.
-
I've got to work until 6:30 PM, so I will miss the last bus to Atlanta. I guess I will stay aroundd here, then go to Grandma's on New Year's Day for black-eyed peas and collard greens!
-
Staying home.......too many drunk drivers out and about and law enforcement will be in full force here. One of my neighbors is an Horry County police sergent and while he could not tell me specifics he said there will be alot of suprises for drivers this year..more so than normal.
New years day-Black eye peas, greens, pork chops

I know, at least in the American South, eating peas and greens are symbolic of wealth for the coming year. The peas are for cents and the greens (be they turnip, collard, mustard or poke sallet) are for dollars.
-
I also plan to stay in. Too many party goer for me. I have not heard about greens for New Years luck. We alway had cabbage and black eyed peas for prosperity and good health.

Man Hammer........... my mouth is watering at the thought of this meal.

A ham, for health, black eyed peas, for luck, and cabbage, for wealth. Many variations on how each are cooked.

Interesting ... This must be a southern thing. Up in New England I've never heard of any of the variations mentioned by our southern sly brothers.
We're having King Crab Legs, for taste.

Yeah, winter sucks. It was fun for the first 2 storms and nice having a white Christmas but I'm ready for Spring ...
Regarding the lobster - I'm not tired of it. #ng^y During the Summer we get lobsters right off the boats in Rhode Island. 3 months until Spring ....

We get em all year round too, but rarely go to the pier in the winter ... They don't weigh them when selling off the boat and just estimate size. They were selling 1.5 pounders (or so) this past summer for $6 and I've heard the prices have been dropping. Hopefully this summer the prices will be even lower ...

I had a flashback to this thread NY Eve, the fish course was lobster--hmmm--then steak then cheese, all w/ appropriate wines of vintage. NY greeted w/ bubbly. If 2009 is as good as the dinner, I'm going to be in "high cotton" as they say down here.

Sounds awesome. Around my way, its "Hoppin Johns": Black eyed peas, rice, stewed tomatoes, and ham all mixed together.
