Title: sunscreen in winter?
Post by: foodfor4 on December 16, 2008, 07:40:42 PM
As you know I will be shaving my head soon. One thing that I would like to know is if you guys ever wear sun screen in the winter time? I never did and usaully wore a cap in the winter, but I'm wondering if anyone does? Thanks in advanced.

Thanks for the advice, that's what I thought. Is there anyway to get a little tan on your noggin in the winter (besides tanning beds)?

You can try a gradual tanning cream, but go slow. You don't want a pale face and tanned noggin.
Be careful of the tanning beds, I would say 10 minutes max. They are not safe from cancers either.

If you have never shaved before, your head is probably going to be in sharp contrast to your face. I know some people will try to alleviate this quickly by purposefully not using an spf lotion but thats just not the way to go about it. If you are just patient, the colors will eventually match, even if you use an spf regularly.

I use any of the various spf 15 lotions (nivea, everyman jack, etc.) every day and an even higher grade if I KNOW I am going to be out in the sun a lot, hat or not.

I put sunscreen on my face when I go skiing, but other than that I usually am indoors or am wearing a cap.

I wear a hat for the most part in the winter because it is damn cold here, but if for some reason I have to be outside without one I'll put on the sunscreen.

You don't have to be directly in the sun to get UV damage. UV rays are present in the shade as well. For those who ski, the reflection from the snow can be devestating to the face and head. PROTECT, PROTECT, PROTECT.

Yes m8. Try living in it. I had a friend who emigrated from Scotland to Canada because she wanted to see the sky. Too much cloud here.

From what ive heard the sun reflecting off of the snow (if their is any by chance) does some good damage so id say you should wear some in the winter, but i personally dont cause my heads whiter then the rest of my body lol  ::)
