Title: Irish 23 - not sly...yet
Post by: dermage on November 29, 2008, 12:20:52 PM
Hi. Never really post on forums but i thought I'd post here cause  it seems pretty good here! Been receding a bit for years, always a bad hairline but never bothered me. In the last year it's got noticeably worse (to me at least.) Buzzed it a month or two ago and when it started growing back you could see where it was thin/balding and that was frightening let me tell ya!

Went on all the hairloss forums all people were saying was big 3 this, this guys hairline (not mine just in general) is awful that, only hope is getting on drugs or your life is over etc etc. Even full venting sections where they would complain about how bad hair loss is and how it's made their life bad. I got seriously depressed reading all this, been pretty down the last while anyway and this didn't help. Noone else my age seems to be balding but y'know what? F it.

I found this site and guys keep up the good work! Hairloss ain't the end of the world - it's just hair. You guys exude confidence and take control of your situation - total contrast to other 'hair loss' forums. I immediately perked up reading you're stories etc and bottom line is - I'm not a bad looking guy - even with a receding hairline! When it gets too bad I'll buzz it short - when that's not enough I'll go sly - to be fair it looks badass!

But bottom line - I'll get on with things cause there are thousands and thousands of worse things that can happen to someone. Better than being on the other forums where people get themselves worked into a state over something they can't change in the long run.

Anyway guys longer post than I'd planned but keep up the good work - I'll be joining you in slyness in the not too distant future I reckon  ;)

Welcome to the forum bro !!   O0

Sounds like you have the right attitude and some of those other forums are " set up " by the rug, drug and plug industry.

Don't let anyone ever try to persuade you that your life will suck because you have hair loss, that's pure BS. Your life is what you make it, and your right, there are a lot of worse things you could be dealing with in life other than hair loss.

Hope you stick around and become a regular here on the forum !!    O0

Wwelcome to the Forum! Don't ever listen to those vultures preying on the insecuritiew of balding men.
The natural solution is a sharp razor and a good shave gel.

hello,

I have been losing hair for 4 years now.  2 year ago I wanted to try propecia because
I didn't think going bald was an option that would look great on me.
But the thing is I am really risk averse.  I read complaints about people no longer getting
an erection, etc.   I was not willing to take that risk.  You might find a hot chick one day, and
damn it will suck at that time if you are impotent!!!  Trust me, men can live without hair but no man
can feel good being impotent.  Sure some people will not become impotent but who wants to take that risk?
Even if you don't become impotent you still get side effects.  Forget Merk or whatever the company's name is
that the side effects are reversible.  Type in google "propecia side effects" and read in the message boards and you tell me those people are lying about side effects not going away even 5 years after quitting propecia.
Oh guess what? That's when those unfortunate people realize that losing hair is not so big of a deal (compared to completely impotent).     we humans have a tendency to attribute success to ourselves "oh yeah side effects only happen to 2.5% of people temporarily so it won't happen to me".   It's too big of a risk,  impotence is not easy to fix.

guys, thanks a lot for the welcome. My own story - I was a happy confident guy and this year has just been a disaster in a lot of ways. And my hair is only the latest, and in the grand scheme of things, smallest part of this year.

Bottom line I'm my own worst enemy when it comes to this. Like I know I'm going bald, can see it in my hair line, my hair falling out and my genes, but it's probably not as rapid as i think. Even tonight, I met friends I haden't seen in ages for a night of poker. They saw my hair short and wondered why I'd ever shaved it - never seemed to cross their mind that i was receding terribly. And y'know what? some of them are receding too - not as badly as me but still def receding. But it doesn't matter really.

And at the end of the day - I like who I am and even if i do go bald before most guys at least i'll have dealt with it.

I really just wanted to tell you guys you are making a difference. A lot of those hair loss forums will have you believe it's the end of the world - but you're more than your hair.

Oh, and first poster who's wondering why I haven't gone sly yet? Shear fear I'm afraid haha. Thank you guys for all the support. If it's gone, it's gone - I'll deal with it then.

There are some horrible forums out there.  And, you're right, you will feel like crap after reading some guy's stories about how bad their lives suck.  I remember a thread titled "Its Saturday night, I"m home alone, and still bald."  There were about 1000 replies to the thread and all of them were negative.  Personally, I want to hang around positive people.  Never visit those sights again.  On a side note, you never know what other problems some of those guys are dealing with (on the other forums).  Maybe they are unemployed and live with their parents, maybe they are afraid to get out and do something with their lives.  There could be a lot more going on then just hair loss.
