I recently returned from NYC after running in the marathon. The big apple is a very enjoyable town. Summer's a great time for your visit. Restaurants, bars and the theaters are not busy, and you'll have an opportunity to check out the new Yankee Stadium and Citifield (home of the Mets in Flushing Meadows). The Marriott is in the heart of town. I prefer the Hilton on 6th Ave & 53rd St.  or the Sheraton on 7th and 52nd Street.

Don't forget the museums (the Met, MOMA, Gueggnheim, etc.) the rock concerts at Madison Square Garden and Jones Beach, and the free outdoor dance venue at Lincoln Center. I highly recommend a Circle line Boat tour and one of the double decker Grey Line bus tours of Manhattan.

3 days is merely a spit in the ocean even if you are staying just in Manhattan.
