New to the site - just got on as a member tonight actually! Refusing to stay in the lurker status, I am just throwing my situation out there. Im 26 and have had diffused thinning hair since about 20 - its only bad to me situationally - at the end of a long night or day at the office - but looks fine after I take a shower (I have fine, wispy hair). I find that I am always worried about how it looks and how its reacting to situations like wind or water. I have a few lumps, and am worried about head shape (i guess many are).
This whole thing has just killed my confidence in what should be a great time in a persons life. I spend a lot of time worried about my hair that I feel like its just some weight dragging behind me. I guess I dont know what to do - im stuck between the unknown of sly and my remainder!

If you've been lurking, then I'm sure you know the answer, but I'll let you know anyway. If it's bugging you, then shave it. You won't truly know how you look with it unless you do. You can do it.
-
shave it and give it 30 days. then you can decide if you like it or not.
-
Shave it man. You'll be glad you did!! O0

Welcome to SBG bro, and I echo the other comments so far....shave it !! O0

Welcome Catodon.
I found that I thought I had a dent in my head before I shaved, but it turned out to be the way the hair grew somehow. After I shaved I was smooth everywhere. Not saying this applies to all but just something I experienced.
Post a pic if you want honest opinions, we won't bite. But if your stressed over it by all means lets get it shaved. There is no stress over hair after...its a great relief! 8)

Welcome to the Forum CAT!
You've heard the suggestions. Try trimming it down progressively shorter over a period of time... say a month. Once you have it buzzed down to a number one or two, shave it off. This progressive shaving will help you AND your circle of loved ones and friends get used to your vanishing hair.
Then shave it for 30 days so you can used to your new look and feel. I'm betting you'll keep it after that.

a sly head feels good, just try it. it will grow back !!!

Look at all the others who have taken our advice. They seem to think it was the right move. We wouldnt steer you in the wrong direction bro.

Yea, I was there not too long ago dude...I just turned 22 and I'm a junior in college... and yea I was also worried about headshape but here is the deal. you will never know how it looks or feels to be sly until you give it a chance.
I turned out to be rather please with my bare dome... so maybe you will too :D

I want to thank all for their honest opinions and support - its really not the same talking about it with other people - here I can get the opinions that matter - from folks that know my issue fro a personal standpoint and have found the answer! Ill post a pic soon to get more feedback - Im really thinking about taking the plunge now! Im scared a bit of the plunge, but I think its the light at the end of tunnel when it comes to my confidence issues, seeing as this is what caused them in the start...

I started buzzing my hair shorter before I finally shaved it off. There was hardly any reaction from anyone but my most observant friends while this was going on. There was as much reaction going from a #4 to a #2 as from a #2 to shaving it all off.
It is a much bigger deal to you than it is to anyone looking at you. People just aren't all that interested in other people's hair. So try something shorter and see if you like it, and if you don't it will grow back.
-
Welcome to the site. Like others have said. You can shave it off, and if you decide you don't like it, grow it back.
-
I buzzed my hair down to a "1" before taking the blade to it. Like you, I was worried about head shape too. I have a few lumps, but so what? It's me...and to be honest with you, I haven't seen too many perfect heads. It's all in how you carry yourself. If you're happy with it, others will fall in line. And if they don't, who cares? When I shaved, the reactions I got were mostly positive...and I think people sort of see my slyness as my trademark now.
If you shave and hate it, the hair will grow back in no time. It's no big deal.

Welcome, and like the others, "Try it, you'll like it!" Why not T'Day morning, and give everyone something to talk about at dinner other than the Bird. ;D ;D ;D

My opinion for what its worth, is give it a shot!
When it got to the point with me where I wasnt styling my hair and I was fixing it to cover the bits that had gone thin, I knew it was time to shave!!
Confidence is a big factor when you start losing your hair, but as soon as you take control of your hair and your life, confidence will ooze out of you because you know you are not hiding anything and you look awesome rocking the dome, just look at the pics of some of the guys here, they know they look good with the bald head and it shows in their pictures!!!
I was pretty worried about head shape because I have a massive melon, but shaving makes it look smaller or at least less obvious, and no one is going to look at you and think "oh, he has a lump on his head, we must avoid him!!"
I am pretty young too dude, just 21, and it was like the worst thing ever for me, but as soon as I got over myself and "did the dead" I felt so much better, and my girlfriend who has known me with hair and without loves it!!
If you want someone young to talk to, pm me dude, I would be happy to help, as most (if not all) of the bros here would too!!

Cat, Don't worry about head shape. If a person is your friend, he/she has accepted you for who you are, not for how you look.
Personally, my head look OK from the front, the back of my head looks like I have been hit with a 2x4. So what! Accept me for what's inside, not what you see. If that bothers you, your not a friend after all. Therefore I don't care about what you think!
-
Worried about head shape? Well look at me, mines not perfect either. So what...do what feels good to you. Better yet dont do that either, because obviously you feel that you do not have the shape for it, You wont know until y ou try....take a run at it...see how it turns out. It will grow back if things dont go well.

Welcome and good luck, Catadon. There's been great advice, and I think you will feel like an unstoppable, insane beast if you shave your head. The kind of person that steps into a room and feels it neccessary to rip off his shirt. It's a good feeling.

Whoa, when does that kick in? You guys didn't warn me about that one. The shaved dome is cold enough this time of year--no shirt? Brrrr....

WOW - beastly - huh - well I am hitting the gym again. Ill start giving it a go then! I may make it my New Years entry!
