i thought this was funny.
i am always telling my boys they should try things first, if they say "i don't like that" i ask if they ever had it. when they say they haven't, i make them try it at least. sometimes they like it sometimes not. but at least they tried it.
so this attitude kinda bit me in the arse monday with my 7yr old. after spending a good portion of the day at the doctor's office, he was hungry. i asked what he wanted and immediately got "mickey d's". so i got him mcdonalds. while telling me what he wanted he adds "caramel dipping sauce but no apples" to his order. thought that was stange but i was not eating it. so he eats his nuggets on the way home. i was just enjoying hanging with him. this is where it got funny.
he finishes his nuggets and proceeds to open the caramel. i had no clue what he was up to so i just kinda watched while i drove. this little guys dips his fries in the caramel. i was like "what are you doing?" so he dips a fry into the caramel sauce and without a word he hands it to me. now, can i refuse? no way he would let me not try it. so i had to. that was the hard part. tasting it without looking disgusted. guys let me tell you, it was really good. i think the salty fry and sweet caramel went well together. so now i know to just practice what i preach. try it before i make my mind up.
have any of you guys been through this? or anything like it? let's hear it. i know i ain't the only one dammit!

cant say that I have ever been in that position. Usually its the other way around. My kids are always like , DAD thats gross! Well now they eat ketchup in their chili, white bread mixed in navy beans, boiling sugar water poured over french toast, pringles on the PB&J
-
Can't say I've been in a certain eating situation yet with my son like that. But then again he's only 2-1/2. But he has taught me the message of "practice what you preach" in other areas. Crazy how it works.
Oh, and that does sound good Paulie. Try fries with a chocolate frosty from Wendy's. Mmmm.

If you liked the sweet and salty caramel taste, you need to go to Starbucks and try their new "Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate". Because of that, I can see the fries and the caramel going well together!

Marsh you said a bad bad bad bad word...the S-bucks name...shame on you shame shame shame

Funny you mentioned that man. My wife just brought one of those home the other day.
Yeah, was freaking great. But I couldn't handle but a few sips. It was like a candy bar just melted or something. Way to rich.

In all seriousness, I used to work for Starbucks. I was part of the first crew at a new outlet at a mall near my home. It was a fun job that helped me to extend my unemployment until I got a better job. I also actually like their products. But I have also gone to some really great independents! But I got to admit that one of the "perks" was working with beautiful women who were quite friendly. Bummer that I was old enough to be their dad! :'(

OK OK...but I have only had Starbucks twice...each time I didnt really care for it, thought it was over priced. So I can at least say I HAVE TRIED IT...and not just being a cop out.
-
I agree the actual coffee there isn't something I would want to pay for. Not for what they charge. But they do have some other good items.

i love wendys fries and a frosty.

How about a fried egg in oatmeal. I did that as I was a youngin and my dad would look at me like I was nuts. I said you have to try it. He never would. I always sat next to my dad at the table and he would always tell me how gross that looked. Well, it wasnt until several years later after I had moved out of the house and we went on vacation together. We were eating breakfast at some restaurant and I caught him putting his egg in his oatmeal. I was like Dad! You said that looked gross. Come to find out from my mom...dad has been doing that for a long time. LOL

Ok,
I gotta put this in here. My son is 15, 16 on the 25th, but anyway, we were watching inside edition after dinner and they did a story about the woman who spent 1 million dollars on plastic surgery to look like Barbie.
So my son looks at me and says, "I don't know why anyone would spend a million dollars on plastic surgery", and I responded quickly with "yea, me neither". But he continued with his comment "I mean, wouldn't she be afraid that if she fell down or got punched in the chest that plastic shrapnel would pierce a vital organ?".
I stared at him for a few seconds and just busted out laughing. It was one of those that makes your gut hurt from laughing so hard.
I now call him p-shrat when he makes a comment about something. :)
Oh and Timj, was always put our eggs in our grits here in the south. You yanks and your oatmeal...lol! ;)

Marsh Timmayyy. Read his quote.... Did you have your Pepsi today? ???
-
suckin on it how Champ lol

Eggs in grits is about as good as it gets so I really can't knock the oatmeal thing. Doesn't mean I don't want to. Sounds weird. Guess it depends how you like your oatmeal. I must have grits this weekend. Thx
I don't have kids but all my friends do. Quick story: I'm a remote control plane/helicopter enthusiast. It was getting a little stale for a while, didn't touch any of them for almost a year when one of my friend's kids spotted an airplane part and started with the questions. (He's 5)
Long story short, I broke out my electric stunt plane, put it on the ground and just had it kick up some wind. Oh man, he jumped back in disbelieve and excitement. The look on his face was pure joy and bewilderment. In one instant, the reason I fly planes, collect them, build them was summed up into an expression on this boy's face, not words.
My experiences with children are few so this really stuck with me. I lost sight of why I enjoyed my hobby so much and this little guy reminded me in a flash. When I think about it I can't help but smile ear to ear.
