Title: Receding hair line
Post by: skiking on November 12, 2008, 06:46:19 PM
I was getting ready to shower today and I hadn't shaved in 3 or 4 days due to an injury that forced me not to get it wet.  Anyways, I was looking in the mirror and noticed that my hairline had receded quite a bit since I shaved my head.  I am not complaining, I love the sly look.  But it was interesting that if you don't see your hairline receding, you don't notice it until you grow your hair out a bit.

When I went sly two years ago I had a full head of hair.  Now it is receding near the temples.  I guess it's just age.

It comes as a bit of a shock, doesn't it?  You tend to remember you hair as it was before you shaved it.

Yep.  That's why it's better to shave earlier, before the "enemy advances too far."

Definitely.  About two years ago, I came down with the flu and was pretty much out of commission for a week, so I didn't shave during that time. And after about 5 days, I looked in the mirror and was like, "Wow!  I'm bald!"  You know it's going but it doesn't make an impression on you when you don't see the changes as they're happening.  I definitely didn't like the horseshoe look.   :(

Did any of you see the Seinfeld episode where a guy was BBC because he swam, and when he grew it out, they called in George Costanza as the expert on balding?  That was a hilarious episode.

Sure did.  And there's a lot of truth to it, as crazy as it sounds.  That episode had to have been written by a sly guy.

My shock has been my old pictures on ID's etc. that show I not only had a combover but a severe receding hairline--I can't believe I let it go that long--I was deep in the river called "De Nile".

Grayish? ...mine grows out white-ish at the temples. Better grayish than white-ish.

RazorX, I had the same experience last winter when I had the flu. After a few no shaving days, I was aghast at just how much my hair had receded
and how white it turned.

SkiKing, do you attribute your receding hairline to your daily headshaving?

No, I have always had a pretty high hairline, and it receded a bit in high school.  I was just commenting on how you really notice it if you can't watch  it recede.

Yes, those old pictures are a real eye-opener.  For a couple of years, I was monitoring my hairline on almost a daily basis, so I'd know the exact moment that I'd have to shave.  Looking back at those photos, I now realize that I missed it by a mile.  Should have done it at least a year sooner than I did.
