well all, the weather is finally starting to cool off here. Today it was a high of 40 degrees and rainy. Days liek this call for a nice big bowl of soup. We are having chili tonight. What I was wanting to know is...what else do you eat with chili?
Most of the time we will have pb&j sandwiches or bologna sandwiches. Also a side plate of cheese and crackers with a nice tall glass of Iced Tea!
So what is your preference??
Ok Iam off...going to go eat my chili.

Ritz Crackers..... O0
-
Tortilla chips with the chili and wash it down with a very large cold beer (or three).
The Lovely Mrs. Schro makes a white chili with chicken and navy beens that is incredible (a personal favorite).
I'll usually use monterey jack cheese and the green tabasco sauce in that one.
Man, is it dinner time yet?
-
Oh yeah..forgot about the beer
-
I just made a pot the other day.....usually we will just have crackers, bread and butter and beer.... O0
-
nice, fat, baked potato.
-
shredded cheese, french baguette and beer!
-
Some cheese and sometimes a little sour cream.

I've never had corn bread, I might have to find a good recipe for this weekend
-
We either have corn bread or tortilla chips with our chilli. My wife makes ours with ground turkey.
Having lived in a hotel for 3 months now, we've not made it in quite some time. That's one of the dishes I'm looking forward to having again soon after we move into our new house.

Corn bread....well I am sure there are many good recipes out there. The best that I have found and is probably the top seller here in the Good Ol USA is Jiffy brand cornmuffin mix. That stuff is the bomb....

Maybe this just comes from having a family with many generations of rice farmers, but you HAVE to eat chili with rice. Rice is also apparently good to have with pretty much everything else!
-
I was going to say the same thing Ross. Chili con Carne over rice is awesome.
Try it with some shredded cheddar and chopped onions too!
-
Yeah shredded cheese is a given but onions not so much. I have an uncle though, man, he likes a little chili with his half pound of onions!!!
-
LOL ...alot of the way I eat it has already been said...but I use them all together...
I'll top it with cheese and onions and a big ole dollop of sour cream, and have a big piece of cornbread to go with it. Great...now I'm hungry again @c3

If you make corn bread, cut up some of your favorite hot chili peppers and throw them in... also a small handful of jack cheese is a nice touch.
-
I've been told by many that I make great chili.
When I was a kid we ate our chili over rice.
But now..... chili should only be served with onions and cheese.
Good chili doesn't really need anything added on top...... but some nice corn bread on the side is good.
I'm making a big pot of chili on Saturday. I'm having some friends over on Sunday to watch the Ravens beat the Giants.... and we'll be enjoying that chili with some nice spicy corn bread.
And of course you have to wash it all down with cold BEER!!!
-
i am just amazed...I have never heard of eating chili and cornbread. I guess I am more southern that I thought. They dont eat chili and cornbread in the south do they? I always had the cornbread with ham/beans or with liver and onions.

Can't get more Southern than the Crescent City, and corn bread--w/ jalopenos please--is a standard w/ chili. Ham/beans, liver and onions--that's midwestern. Now Ham hocks w/ black eyed peas and greens or a plate of red beans and rice--those are southern!

Corn Bread is awesome with chili.
Never had it with jalapenos & cheese in it, but I bet that would be good.
Hey, ever made a jalapeno margarita? You dice up jalapenos (seeds & all), put it in the margarita mix, let it sit overnight in the fridge, then strain out the jalapenos before you add tequila & triple sec. It's not a 'rita you can drink fast, but it's a very tasty, and very different.
That would go well with chili.
-
just simmered a pot all day yesterday, and i'm baking the cornbread as i type this.
-
Let some hot dogs simmer in the chili then you can have some chili dogs with the chili. Have to try some corn bread next time that sounds good.
-
cheese, sour cream, beer and cornbread or crackers.
prefer cornbread but sometimes just don't feel like making it.
