Title: Are you ready for some......................
Post by: Timmay on November 06, 2008, 08:33:46 AM
TURKEY!

Thanksgiving is fast approaching and Christmas is on its tail.  Are you all ready?  This is my favorite time of year, although sometimes it can be the worst time for some.

There is only one thing I dislike about it.  Fake people.  They will all become really nice and this or that.  You know, if you cant be like that all year long, then why bother?  GIVE GIVE GIVE is what they do around the holidays.  As soon as Christmas is over with it is like they turn back into the old scrooge again.  My wish for this Christmas and Holiday season is for those who are like that, too look at themselves and remember how happy it makes them and to those they affect.

I understand thats the way it is sometimes.  This time of year makes us do those things, but can we not try harder this time to make it last beyond the holidays?  What do you say folks?  Gonna give a  try this time?

I may sound a big ham, but I'm certainly no chicken when it comes to turkey - no beef about it, I like turkey at Christmas. :D

Rob, I thought a roast and Yorkshire pudding was the standard X-mas fare across the pond.

Looks like its time for a KFC "Famous bowl".  It's famous for making me feel like crap.. but substitute the chicken for turkey, and you got thanksgiving in a bowl!

No!
My two siblings moved half way across the country, and my sister has kids so my parents visit them.
I have neither the time nor the money to fly out there, so I will bury my nose in law books and have a dinner with a few friends.
I will just look forward to Christmas when I will get a real break.

"drunk turkey"  share that receipe please.  I'm one of the odd balls that really doesn't like turkey, not because of it's taste, but because it has no taste, texture or interest.  I like the trimmings, duck and andouille gumbo, oyster dressing, mirlliton cassarole, the usual, but turkey, it's just so bland, etc.  I'll try a "drunk" bird, and try to keep sober while cooking it if it sounds good.

my step brother has a keg that is cut about two inces from the bottom. the coals go in the bottom and the bird stands up inside. all i do is inject it the night before and shove a 16 oz can of beer up his butt. (take a couple sips first) cook it at about 250 degrees four around four hours ( for a 14 pound bird) and then it is done. super moist and very tasty. damn i am hungry now.

Sounds similar to the "garbage can turkey" we use to do....15 lb turkey only takes 1 and 1/2 hours outside....

I'm with you on the BAH HUMBUG, Pauly, as I was last year.  I would love the holidays if it was a relaxing time, but my wife and I have large families and we end up hosting one or both holidays. It turns into a lot of work and I'm always glad when it's over.

I'm really a nice guy all year.  I do my best to be a gracious, honest person.

With that said, I can't stand the holidays.  To many people putting to many demands on my and my family's time.  I enjoy the quiet times at home with my wife and kids. I also enjoy the services and activities at church.  In public people get obnoxious, rude and downright mean to each other chasing that bargain.

That and Christmas is just way to long.  The dern holiday lasts FOREVER!  By the time Thanksgiving gets here, I'm sick of Christmas.  We don't put up our tree or decorate until the first weekend in December.  The day after, it's back in the attic.

We have been having very low key Christmases since we had children.  And I mean low key.  Max of $100 for each of the kids from Santa.  After the kids go to bed, Mrs. GASLick and I get a bottle of wine and.........well, you know. O:O

Turkey is number one choice over here, or some people have a goose, beef not quite so much. 8)
