Title: New here, thinking about taking the Mach 3 to my head...
Post by: jh099 on October 13, 2008, 06:05:22 AM
Alright, I'm 21 and I'm losing my hair. My hairline isn't receding at all, it's just getting thinner all over. I first noticed how thin it was when I was 20, and naturally I flipped out and grew it longer than usual to try and hide it. It worked for the front of my head, but unfortunately I had a little bald spot in the back. Once I noticed it, I basically said "f**k this" and went down to the barber's to get my hair trimmed down to a 2 on the top and 1 on the sides. Truth be told, I like my hair the way it is now more than I ever liked it when it was longer.

I refuse to get on a regimen of crap like minoxidil because it doesn't guarantee results and the hair only lasts as long as you use it, which means I'd be dropping hundreds or thousands of dollars every year. I also don't want to get transplant surgery because if it doesn't work out, then I end up bald with a scarred up head.

Really, the only thing holding me back is the fact that my head is somewhat...pointy. I just think it would look weird if I took it all the way down to my skin. Here are a couple of pics of my hair as it looks right now.

So, should I kiss my hair goodbye for all time or do you guys think my head shape is a bit on the awkward side to be going there?

Hey JH, welcome to the forum !!   O0

I think your head shape is fine dude. I don't see where you think it's pointy or anything like that. I guess the only thing I can tell you is to do what's going to make you happy ! Why don't you try buzzing it down a little closer to see how you like it and then decide? I think you would look good either way but ultimately the decision is yours although we may give you nudges here and there....lol....good luck bro !!

You've buzzed, try it shaved for 30 days, and if you don't like it, what you have now will grow  back in two weeks or so.  The "morning line" here is that you'll like it and stay sly.

jh099;

WELCOME TO THE SBG FAMILY
[/glow][/b], we are glad that you have joined us. I think (like the others) that your head shape is fine, and I would suggest that you grab your blade and take it all off brother. If you don't like it you can easily grow it back to what you've got now in a short period of time.

Welcome jh.  I think you look fine with the buzz, but its always good to get an idea of what you look like sly - and I bet you'll get hooked.  As far as your headshape, you are totally fine, don't know what you're talking about.  I don't like my headshape, but I'm working with what I got, and that's all we can do.  O0

Once the idea of shaving your head has taken hold, it's impossible to get rid of it until you do it.   It only takes a week to get back to a #1 length, and two weeks to get back to #2.  You owe it to yourself to give it a try.

Your head shape is not pointy at all; I would trade if I could.  I think you're seing things that aren't there.  I would go another step further, possibly a no-guard buzz.  It will give you a much better idea what it will look like.  But as many here can attest to, once you have it in your head to do it, you might as well give up.  You won't be able to rest until you've shaved it all slick.  Keep us updated.

Hi JH,

I don't think your head shape is bad at all.

The problem is now that you have contemplated shaving, the idea is going to be stuck in your head until you actually try it.

A lot of people like the Mach 3, and I'll probably get "taken to school" for saying this, but I have better luck with a middle grade Shick.  I have tried a Mach 3, and the "floating" design makes it difficult to get into the creases and folds that us more "mature" guys have.   You probably won't have that problem though, since you are still young.

Go for it!

Take said Mach III to head, enjoy the feeling of freedom. Once the thought is there, it's all you're going to think about. Give it a go, I bet you'll love it.

Most of us here at SBG's have all wished we had done it sooner.

Keep us posted jh.

Nah, I'm still around. Keeping my head buzzed for the time being since I've grown to like the look quite a bit.

My two cents:

The biggest myth that keeps men from shaving their head: "I have a bad head shape." I had the same fear, but as soon as I went Sly, I knew I made the right decision. Of the the pics I've seen on this forum, not once have I seen a bad head shape. If I had a nickel for every time someone has complemented my bald head, I'd have a least $1.00!
