I'm 22 and I only recently started cutting my hair very short (I keep it on a grade 1). I am too lazy when it comes to shaving so I don't bother with the fully bald look. Anyway, before I buzzed my hair I always got asked for identification in bars and people would say I looked younger than I was. After the buzz it's the opposite. I never get asked for ID and some people have said I look like I'm in my late twenties.
Does the sly/buzzed look really add that much age on? Will I only look younger when I'm in my forties? Do all young sly/buzzed guys always look older? Below are two pics of me, one at the age of 20 when I could still get away with medium-length hair. The other one is more recent with the buzz. Can you see the age difference between the two pictures?
Before and After

Well, the pic on the left, the one with hair I guess, you look like you just got done playing with Susie in the sandbox. But all kidding aside, I think it depends on the person and it''s hard for me to tell because I can't really see your hair that well. But, I think you may be right, some younger people do look a little more mature with shorter hair than longer hair. I think that may go for older people as well, as I have had some people think I'm older than what I am and others who have thought I was younger. I think it's all in the eyes of the beholder....IMO.... O0
By the way, welcome to the Forum !! O0

27 and it seems like I get ID'd less since going sly (about a year ago).
Then again it could be bc I go out drinking too much and they just recognize me!
-
I think going sly sort of pulls everyone toward the middle -- so if you are really young you look more mature and you're older, it can shave a few years off. Shorter hair in general is a more mature look, for the most part -- that's why when actors are playing parts that are significantly younger than their real age, they'll never have a really short haircut. If you're older, then shaving your head erases some of the telltale signs of aging, like receding hairlines and greying hair.

For most dudes having a slick bald head creates the opposite..
years are shed off..
at least that's been my sly story! ;)

I'm 27 and people have said I look older. I think it depends on how old you are to start out with. I think for those of us in our early to mid twenties it makes us look more mature. For my Sly brothers who are a little further up the Hill, it makes them look younger. What other hairstyle works such miracles?
-
Well i am 60 in 2months so i hope i look younger
-
I'll be 38 on the 25th. I get told all the time that I look younger than I am. it's the hair! ;D
My hair is almost all gray.
-
Actually have had several people who did not believe I was 45...thought I was in my mid to late 30's
-
Im 21 in couple of months and best / worse have been that people thought i was 28 8) O0
-
Well; I'm 72 and I think I look a lot younger than that. What do you guys think?
John
-
Dude..there is NO WAY..you are 72!!
-
Yeah; I know; just kidding;
actually 54 ... just wanted to see how people reacted .
-
I was still off..beardless or not I was guessing late 40's.
-
Just turned 55 but most people think 45-47 ish. After some of my kettle bells workouts with the trainer, I may look 102. LOL
-
I will be 58 next month....some people say I look a lot younger and some people ask me questions about my social security benefits and you have to be at least 62 to get them....so I guess it depends on the persons view of you..... :D

for those of us who worry about looking older (like me, I admit); i always liked this comment by Tinna Fey; she said when people ask her age she says "I'm 50 " (she's really 35) . They say "Hey, you look great ! ).

Since there have been a number of responses to this, I'm curious to know if this is a topic that comes up often for you guys. The people I'm close to already know how old I am and I don't usually have a reason to announce my age to strangers, so I have no idea if people think I look older or younger than my age.

Some people say I look older with a shaved head, but I don't really care because I always wanted to look older. Maybe in a few years time I'll be the opposite and wish I looked young!! :D i recently had to wear a wig for a part in one of my Amateur musical shows ('The Boy friend', and i was told by the older ladies that I looked younger, but the younger girls said they liked me better without hair, so maybe its all a matter of opinion! 8)

I got the opposite. Most people told me I look a few years younger.

I was at Burger King yesterday and I got the SENIOR discount. I'M ONLY 46. :-[

Well, there are some benefits to looking older... O0

I hope not, some of us on here are nearly pensioners so it would not be very nice to say you looked seventy, i think the younger ones look older and us older gents younger, the secret is to have a younger lady with you.

Not for me....I'm nearly as old as you and have no desire for a younger lady.....besides I already have one and she's 3 years younger....that's good enough for me.... O0

Some people say I look older with a shaved head, but I don't really care because I always wanted to look older.
Why?

What I really meant was that all my life I looked sort of young and 'innocent' ;D But now I'm looking how I want to look and i don't really care if I look older or younger: it doesnt really bother me. i guess as I get older I'll start wanting to look younger though! :D
-
It's actually the opposite for me. I've been told I look younger when I shave my head. The fuzz and scruff on my face and dome tend to make me look a little older than I am.

most people dont even try to guess my age but i really dont care age is indifferent attitude rules

The only person so far to say I look older was the person that sold me my hair pieces. Hmmmm!!! Imagine that. But it's still early in my slyness.
-
The only thing that matters is how confident you look. people who liked me with hair say I look older without it, but people who never knew me with hair don't say anything! 8)

Most everybody thinks I'm years younger than I am. They're shocked to learn my oldest child is 21.

how old are u Daddy?

I see that you're just a couple of years younger than I am. I would have never guessed it from your pic.
-
I get nothing but younger. I would get that when I had hair too, but most people think I look a lot younger when I am shaved.
Tow, I like your attitude, bro. I always said age is just a number, it's all how you feel and your outlook on life.
-
Prior to headshaving, I always had a buzzcut. Those that knew me from before see no major age difference. Most of my new acquaintances say my no-hair look is age appropriate.
-
I think you all look old

I think RX totally hit this one on the head... the grey is gone, the signs of aging off with the few gentle swipes of my Headblade. I still have my hair, but choose the sly look because it just seems and feels right.... as a teacher my kiddos love the look and often laugh at my "neck meat." What I miss is my goat. I had to take it off for commitments at church. (LDS Temple thingy) But losing the goat has mademem even younger looking! :D

Sly style took 15 years off of me. I am 54 but people typically guess 35-40.
