Basically, here is my story. I'm not sure if I read this hear or somewhere else, but I heard that if you like the whole "sly" look, than you're probably going to adapt to it quite easy when you try it.
Well, I do. Sorta.
I don't use the term "sly". I've always used the term "bad ass". I think there has been a huge revolution out there with regards to guys going bald.

I guess it's my own insecurities getting into my head. I think I probably have the headshape for the great bad ass movement, but than again I'm not sure. You sort of study your head in the mirror and try to figure out how it would look. Maybe I'll end up with a cone head or something like that. It gets quite tall on the top.
Basically, I've been losing my hair and it's something that I've accepted. I'm not really looking to save it with pills, while my penis becomes impotent.
But I just haven't got the balls to do it. Even though I have receding hair around the temple area on the front, I just have a problem doing it. I've never had a shaved head or buzzed head or anythign like that in my life. There's always been at least two inches of hair on my scalp and it's been like that for the longest time.
I guess basically what I'm looking for is a little encouragement. Something to help push me to the bathroom and start the process. Will I turn from balding 25 year old into bad ass?

Also a second question on a different theory of thought. I have a more confident posture. It's just something I have and people always assume I'm more of an alphamale, when in reality, I'm a shy guy.
Now when I go sly, people will naturally assume I'm king alpha bad ass. Has anyone had issues with incongruence's?

Edit: I'm going to have to get my camera fixed because I don't think I can do this without a before and after pictures. I've been sort of avoiding the whole getting my picture taken because of the hair loss.

My dig camera is broken and yahoo photos deleted all my old pictures. I know there is one from my graduation 2 years ago, but I can't for the life of my remember where I put it.
Here is one I did find though. It's sort of crappy and sorta blurry. It's from 4 years ago (i think)...

and shaving your head smooth will make you look cool with an edge, no doubt..
but bad ass or sly is really the attitude that may come with your bold choice of hairstyle...

(p.s.) check out the threads started by me in May or june '08 in the 'to be or not to be ... bald' section. It chronicles my 'Odessy" to sly-dom; and shows how instrumental my sly brothers were in helping me take the plunge, which I found as difficult as you seem to find it. Once you do it you will be saying, with so many of us ... why didn't I do this sooner.

I would agree with the others that how you carry yourself will define whether your "cool" or "smooth" or "bad ass." Not your Slyness. I've always been very outgoing and social. My new Sly lifestyle just makes me feel more confident in my social interactions. On the other hand, if I ever tried to be "bad ass," my friends and loved ones would call me out on it. And rightfully so. Its just not who I am, Sly or not.
So in other words: Going Sly just intensifies who you already are. Its like your amp just went to 11! So go for it!

Well, it seems like there is a consensus on the issue lol.
I think I'll have to get some razors first. I don't think I really want to have my first head shave with the dull ones I use on my face.

My recommendation is to go out and buy a Gillette Fusion.
I have had completely trouble free shaves with my Fusion the entire time I've been shaving my head (about 15 months )

When I think of Bad-Ass I think "cocky". Sly is more a "smooth" persona in my book, and I hope you
experience the later than the first.
I say Shave that melon and experience the meaning of Sly 8)

Just go for it bro. If your a shy guy you WILL draw a bit more attention and a few stares but I'm sure you can roll with it...
Besides just because your rocking a bald head doesnt mean you have to have some over the top peronality, just be yourself.

I wasn't a bad ass sort of guy before going sly. And I'm not now.
I stand out more in a crowd since I'm sly. I see that as an advantage.
I enjoy being the center of attention. But bad ass, that is not who I am or will ever be. Chris, the only thing standing in your way in finding out the answer to your question is the shave. Buy some new blades and give it a go. Find out if there's a bad ass baldy waiting to be released.

Haven't forgot about you all. I really want to thank you for the encouragement. It helps. I'm going to go for it. I haven't yet. It's thanksgiving in Canada, so I'm just busy with other things at the moment.
And when I say bad ass, I don't mean bad. I guess everyone has there own definition of what that means. Maybe I should of said "F--king AWESOME" or something along those lines.

This post has been up awhile but I'll go ahead and put my two cents in.
You will be bad ass.
I know what you are going through. A young man who feels like his youth is over because of MPG, the girls, the fun, you think it's all over and now you will turn into an old man. You won't.
I just turned 26 when I finally took the plunge, it took some getting used to, but now I can't imagine doing anything but going sly.
Buzz it first to get used to it, then after you're comfortable with that shave it (or keep buzzing it if you like that, whatever).
Inform us when you do.

Go for it,,, if it's not for you grow it back. I shaved a full head of hair just to do it,, loving it. My problem is my hair grows so damn fast I HAVE to shave everyday. I get the Tough guy comment all the time,, I guess being 6'4" and 260, with the "goatmancho" I was asking for it, but at 43,, that is out of my blood 20 years ago.

Last night one of my friends saw my Sly look for the first time. She said, and I quote, that I looked "bad ass." So I guess even though I don't think I'm bad ass, the Sly look can definitely make others think I am, even my friends. I'd like to hear someone with a combover say that about their hair!
