Bad news, boys and girls...
The Robmeister just got diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes.
I got declined on my own life insurance that I wrote on myself :*)) :*))
Called the underwriter to pitch a fit and all the damn numbers, levels and indexes were off the freakin chart for hyperglycemic type 2, man (HYPO- is low blood sugar).
I haven't had a full physical with blood work for at least 6 years or so......GOOD NEWS.....the medical exam for the insurance caught this.
BAD NEWS.....I have to pull WAY BACK on my black & tans and kettle one.
GOOD NEWS.....I have no choice but to get my butt in shape PERMANENTLY.
GOOD NEWS....with my type of diabetes the general rule of thumb is "If you don't drink....don't start. If you do drink....don't stop"
BAD NEWS....I'll have to slam on the breaks and become a MODERATE drinker (B-O-R-I-N-G)
GOOD NEWS....MODERATE could mean enjoying 2 kettles on ice EVERY NIGHT....actually helps reduce blood sugar when kept at moderate levels.
BAD NEWS....now i'll have to be the f**kin' designated driver at our SLY gatherings :Xo!
-
That is one serious bummer. At least you can see a bright side to it.

Well Rob.... to make sure you don't feel left out at nexy year's SLYCON.... I'll be sure to get nice and toasty so you have someone you can drive back to the hotel.
Anybody else want a piece of this action??? Maybe we could pitch in and rent a bus, pop an old Letchen Grey cassette into the player, and have Rob drive our intoxicated asses around town.... Anybody???
-
Glad you found out in time Rob. That is not the kind of thing that should be left unchecked. Send out a prayer for ya anyway.
-
Does that mean that all the "Bald Head Kisses" that you give are going to stop.......Lack of Alcohol!
THank God you caught it early....Type 2 Diabetes is very manageable and can go away with the correct diet and exercise.

I'm afraid so
Type 2 Diabetes is very manageable and can go away with the correct diet and exercise.
That's what I hear.
-
Rob,
Glad you found out early. ;)
Mrs. BW and I will keep you in our prayers, and root for ya! O0
-
Bad to hear ... Good that it was caught early. Hang in there bro. I'll throw a prayer your way.
-
Bad news - good news. I'm happy that you stay focused on the positive.
Perfectly treatable condition. Good you caught it early though.
-
Seriously Rob...... You will be in my prayers for good health in the future....
-
Sorry to hear the news Rob. Now about those physicals :x!
You'll be in my prayers.
Max
-
Sorry to hear it. Is this the type where you don't need to take insulin injections (I hope?)
-
Sure it sucks that you have to deal with all this but as you pointed out, the positive outweighs the negative.
You must have felt like crap at times and didn't know why. From the sound of it, the improvements you're about to make will do more than just make you healthier.
You can do this dude. I'll be rootin for you.

BAD NEWS
The medication I'm on STRICTLY FORBIDS alcohol consumption during the medication period.
So the robmeister is officially "ON THE WAGON" I guess until we get this under control...and even then it will most likely be MODERATION...2...maybe 3 drinks in a 24-hour period.
By way of comparison...when I'm havin' fun with the bros--tailgaiting, BBQing, hangin' out with BaldRob and the gang at Nutties--I'm used to 8 to 12 drinks. When Schro and I got together in So. Cal., I had 5 or 6 pints of Guinness...and was just getting warmed up.
Right now I'll be on meds for 10 days...go back to the doc for more blood work to see how I'm responding. Then they'll send me to a diabetic nutritionist to lay out the guidelines for eating and such.
As far as exercise.....I got that covered....just gotta get back to the gym....I totally dropped my regimine back in March.
-
Rob, I really glad to hear that you caught this in time. Diabetes is also one of those things that runs in my family. So it's another thing that I have to watch.
You will be in my prayers. Keep at it Rob.
-
There are worse things than sobriety ... and you can see how stupid everyone acts when they are drunk !!!
-
Great to see you have your sense of humor still! The change will keep you around for those cute little monkeys on your arms! My thoughts are with you bud!!!!! (P.S. being a DD aint so bad, I do it every time I'm out and still have fun!)
-
Hey Rob!
Type 1 Diabetes here. Mostly it's ok to live with it!
Take care of that !!!
Ben
-
I think Rob is still good on the Noggin Kisses...I still have his lipstick on my forehead! LOL
just take care of your self bro....and pay attention to it. I would rather have you sitting at the end of the bar sippin a Shirley Temple....than to have us all sitting in a bar with your photo on the wall.
-
Thanks for the well-wishes, gang !!
Yeah...things could be WAY worse than the alcohol thing.....My "whining" about it has sorta been tongue-in-cheek....making light of the situation.
Hell, I've got so much to be thankful for....and there are a lot of folks out there dealing with WAY WORSE crises than worrying about backing off alcohol consumption.
-
Sorry to hear that Rob but there are millions of us and it can be handled. Any questions just give me a shout.
-
Hey Bro,
Sorry that happened to you but hopefully you found it early enough to sucessfully treat it.
-
And so it begins. Good Luck.
-
Type 2 Diabetes is very manageable and can go away with the correct diet and exercise.
This is what I'm finding out.
GOOD NEWS:
Once it goes away, I have to consistently maintain a healthy and fit lifestyle from here on out because IT CAN COME BACK....
-
Hey bro, don't know how I missed this but I'm glad you caught this early and are on your way to getting it straight. My thoughts and prayers are out for you brother.
Its great to hear that your gonna be the DD at the next slycon, that way me and Paul can sleep on the way back home after the festivities :*)) :*)) :*))
-
Hey Rob, sorry to hear about the bad news. But it seems you definitely have the right attitude towards making it right.
You can cut back and get things to where they should be. By catching it early on, you can get it on track and probably reverse it. Sometimes these things are a wake-up call.
Always keep in your mind you have some people who mean a whole lot to you, and they need you to be around (two of them are in your avatar).
You don't need to have 5 or 6 Guiness, have 1 or 2, and really enjoy them.
Don't have 8 martini's, leave that up to Schro! >:D
Moderation is the key, and you can still enjoy life bro.
We're here for any encouragement you need. O0
-
Good Luck to you Rob !! Be strong bro..... O0

Better yet......
Just have a shot or two of Patron and that will take care of you for the night.....
