Title: ridicule
Post by: teenthatshavessometimes on August 18, 2008, 03:38:21 PM
have any of you guys ever gotten any rude remarks or ridicule for going sly?
even though it hurts, its important to stay true to yourself, and do what you want, is someting that i think about a alot. because i have been made fun of, and gotten dirty looks, and they can be really hurtful if you havent biult up your sly confidence yet. i know if i stay bald for 30, shaving each day, people will get over it, and i will blend in to some deggree, but its very difficult at my age.but i have also gotten a lot of cool looks, and nice comments.  i know, all of you are going to stay sly, but do you think you could take a few minutes and think about how you wouyld feel if you were so young, and sly. its not like i have a buzzcut and everyone else has the skater long hair, they have that, and i have nothing. it draws attension, which isnt nessicarilty bad, but it isnt nessicarilly wanted. i guess i will just let fate do the rest, and who kniows, maybe i will stay bald for 30 day, there is actually a pretty good chanse i cant go to the wedding, but i dont know yet. its only 2 days befpre school starts, so if i am sly on the date of the wedding, i am pretty much going to be sly at school, why not be all the way sly!? i try to take whatever life throws at me. i may grow hair, i may not, you never no. normally, whenever my hair grows i end up buzzing all of it off and shaving int soon after. i am weird like that. :popo ;D O0
even if i grow hair, i will be SLY on the inside, and out, accept for the bald, but hey, ya never know!

I never cared what anyone thought.  After awhile they'll get used to it.

Hmmm, 14 and sly ...that's awesome!

Bro...YOU want it more than anything, so I would stay true to yourself and if having no hair on your head does that..

well, do it!

I had short hair in the hairy 80's (a lot depended on what school you went to if the "new wavers" or the "rockers" were predominate, mine was rockers)..

I had short hair when most didn't..and that becomes WHO you are..I saw a few dudes (the punk skaters) who were buzzed (considered bald back then)..and man, I WANTED to be them...

bro, don't have regret..

keep your head shaved and wear it confidently...

bro, YOU want to be bald..so be bald!

Well OK maybe you are 14.....but you need to decide what you want.  It really doesnt matter to me either way.  What you have to understand is that it isnt doing you any good flopping back and forth.  You are way to young to be having issues like that.  Hell growning up in your teen years is enough to drive ones self nuts..

Look young Brother,  You really NEED to get some input from your parents.

Those are the adults, who's opinions should take priority over our's here at SBG.

I'm not ripping on you, I'm telling you the honest truth.

You are a young man who has a long life ahead of you.

You are at that age where you need your parent's guidance more than ever. O0

I think he looks great too Andre...but like buuckwheat said...he needs to talk to his parents.  I would be happy to give him all the info he needs...but he really needs his parents OK.  I would feel terrible trying to talk a kid into something when he is really at a vulnerable age.  You remember when you were 14-18  hell  you would try anything once....even in dispite of your parents.

TEEN!  You are more than welcome here bro....but please please ...save everyone heartache and talk to you parents....Please!

If that is the case, Great!  With great respect I DO think you need to concentrate on having fun and being a young man.  I fully understand that you want to do adult stuff.  Take your time and enjoy being a young man.  Growing up too fast can be a real pain.

The only difference between you and me is that I've been 14 a lot longer than you! O0

Yes, I'm still a teenager at heart.

You seem like a pretty nice dude, BUT! You still need plenty of frequent insight from your parents first!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My sentiments exactly.   If your parents are OK with it -- and you say they are -- and your school is OK with it, then you just have to go with what feels right for you.  If you really want a shaved head badly enough, then stick with it.  But if you find that it's creating a rift between you and others your age, it may not be worth it.   Only you can decide that.  Remember that it's only a haircut andyou can change your mind about it at any time.

If you decide that the time isn't right to be sly, don't worry about it. Let the hair grow back until you're ready.  You can always shave your head when you go to college.  There isn't as much pressure to conform once you turn 18 -- and trust me, it isn't as far off as it may seem to you right now.

Exactly, like I said you are way too young to have to deal with issues like that.  You are only a teenager once in your life...so enjoy it.  Experience things....just have fun!  Once you get older....you realize there are alot of responsiblities in life and that has a tendency to take away some of the fun.  You are YOUNG ....enjoy it while you have it.

Look sly bro...I don't mean to sound like an I don't care about what your going thru, but I have read probably all of your posts on the forum, and you keep flipping back and forth.  Stop it...stop doubting what you want... Stop asking other people to tell you it's going to be alright....We don't know how it is in High School anymore, but I can tell you is this....I went to high school, and I was ridiculed for the music that I listened to.  I was ridiculed because I had very LONG Hair,  I was ridiculed for not wearing the COOL jeans... I was ridiculed for having a drunk as a father...I was ridiculed because I liked to roller skate.....I was ridiculed for the crappy car that I drove.....Hell I could continue the list forever....

I didn't care what the other kids said..  I had 3 really good Friends, and we hung around with each other and we all had each others back.....They were the only kids in school that I cared what they thought........I don't talk with anyone from high school except my 3 best friends.  The other ASS-HOLES i don't care about.

Schools wasnt a bed of roses for me then and school probably hasnt changed a whole lot since, but one thing that has not changed is that every one will be put down, looked down upon..or ridiculed for one thing or another.

If you want to have a shaved head, then DO IT.

Even though it has been a long time, I can relate to a lot of what has been said here.  Ridicule, isolation, feelings of inadequacy, uncertainty...

I was a slide rule carrying, pocket-protector wearing nerd, and during the "British Invasion" years, when all the other guys were growing their hair, my lifer-military dad demanded that my hair be kept short, like a man's hair should be.  I definitely didn't fit in with the popular group.  But like Slyinglide, a small circle of friends was all I really needed.

And, for inspiration, try reading The Desiderata.  Even though it was written over 80 years ago, it still holds a lot of truth.

DESIDERATA

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly, and listen to others,
even to the dull and ignorant;
they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be
greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career
however humble;
it is a real possession in the
changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you
to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit
to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore, be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.
With all its sham,
drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.
