I, personally love cover versions (i know, I know, guilty pleasure, right?) of many songs. Be it an acoustic version by the original artist, or some retelling of a song by another artist, I generally find that the "cover" of almost any given piece of modern music is usually BETTER than the original.
Am I alone in this? Here is one of may favorite covers: The song "I alone" originally by Live, as covered by K's Choice ("not an addict", 1996) w/ Anouk ( in the baseball cap, a Dutch singer doing most of the leads):

Anyone else got any good "covers" to share? ^-^

Cover versions can be pretty hit or miss.. and normally I think they're a miss... like Champ said in
another post the Scissor Sisters murdered Pink Floyds Comfortably numb.
Saying that.. some are truly amazing.. and this is the best cover I've ever heard.. in fact
I think it has the edge on the original.

Without a doubt, the best cover ever was Van Halen's cover of the Kinks "Girl, You Really Got Me"
Worst?
Rod Stewart's cover of Van Morrison's "Have I Told You Lately". Stewart butchered a beautiful song.
Hey, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Michael McDonald’s version of Halleluiah. Oh what the hell, I’ll admit that I’m a Michael McDonald fanboy. He could sing the phone book and I’d like it.

McDonald has some good pipes.
One of my favorite McDonald tunes is the song "Sweet Freedom" from the movie with Gregory Hines & Billy Crystal ("Running Scared").
Great Tune!

Kirsty MacColl's cover of the Kinks' "Days"

or Kirsty MacColl's cover of Billy Bragg's "New England"

I find that often if I've heard the cover before the original I remember the cover most and prefer that version.

There's one distinct advantage to making a cover, You can take the best of the original and put in some ad-lib stuff. Saying that if you listen to live versions of songs by the original band they have themselves usually make some little adjustments to the original recorded versions. Music is made to lose yourself in and when a good song is played by a good band sometimes they lose themselves in the music and it takes on a life of its own.

Jeff Buckley's cover of The Leonard Cohen original is the best in my opinion. Check it out. It's from a great album named "Grace".

Listen to Meatloaf sing "Read 'em and Weep", then listen to the lame cover by Barry Manilow. They are both on youtube.
