Did you talk with your wife (partner, significant other) about it before you shaved your head? I brought it up several times. At first, my wife thought I was joking but now she understands I’m serious and she’s really annoyed. She says that’s the stupidest idea I ever had.
Did your wife give you a hard time? What did you do to change her mind?

I mentioned that I might do it. She said "Don't you dare". Well you know what that meant >:D
I just came out of the shower one night................TA DA!
At first she didn't like it and refused to even touch it. After a couple of days she came around. Now she loves it and I love it when she rubs aloe on it while we watch TV

The TA DA approach already got me into a lot of trouble. But you’re right, easier than trying to win an argument ...
Watching TV and have her rub aloe on your head, now that sets a romantic mood :-)

You're not going to believe this, but I am bald by choice. I have a head full of hair. 2 years ago I had hair all one length down to my shoulder blades. I had it for 10 years. I used to sit in the floor and she would brush my hair and we would talk, watch TV. Now she rubs my head.....and yes, it can lead to other things.
She loves my smooth head now. She was a little upset at first, but now.....it's all good.
Good Luck!

Thanks.
So, for your wife it was a REAL change. In my case (MPB) I didn’t think it would make much of a difference any more. Well, evidently it does to her.
Great it worked out for you. Maybe I should just surprise her when she comes back from a night out with her girlfriends.

On a slight tangent, the first time I buzzed my head (with a #2) I was 16 and my mother exclaimed "that's awful". That set the stage for future efforts. Mostly now she just asks "why?" with the disapproval only a mother can convey. Like there's an answer that will satisfy her? "I'm raising awareness about the overwhelming slaughter of seals in Saskatchewan"?? ;D
I've always been more of an ask forgiveness than permission kind of guy though, so I suppose in all fairness it's going to be more of a shock for the people who know me when one day I have a full head of hair and the next I don't.
As for my partner... he says he doesn't hate it, but strongly prefers me with at least some hair. Still, he's not really had the chance to adjust yet either, so we'll see.
-
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission...

Actually, my wife had been buzzing my head with no guard on 2 or 3 times a week and was getting tired of it ....every time I mentioned shaving it she would always say "no your not"....One day when she was sitting in the living room and I was just getting out of the shower and ready to shave the face .....I decided to just do it and see what her reaction would be.....I came into the living room with my first shaved dome, she looked at me and said " does this mean I won't have to buzz your head anymore?" .....she never complained at all and has grown to really like my head, although maybe she really likes not having to buzz it every other day?!?! :)
-
My wife was all for it and actully encouraged me to shave my head. She loves it. On the rare occasion that I come out of the bathroom unshaven she just looks at me and says, "Oh, you're not shaving today".
-
I did not discuss this with my wife first, as I knew what her reaction would be :Xo! I just flat out did it, the very first time out of a mistake because of the depth the clipper was, and seeing the nubbs I decided to shave clean and loved it.
It's my fricken head. 8)

OK, back to the topic...
My wife had just given me a no guard buzz before I left town for a few days to take care of some business.
She had been cutting my hair for years, and it kept getting shorter and shorter, but never went beyond the shortest setting on the clippers. I mentioned to her a few times that we should "finish the job", but she said that she didn't think she would like it. So, on this trip, I got out the razor and gel, got into the shower and shaved my head. When I told her on the phone about it, she was a little bit miffed, and let me know about it.
IMHO, my hair had been so short for so long, that taking off the last 1/16th of an inch wasn't that much difference.
When we got back together a few days later, she looked me up and down, and said, "I guess it doesn't look THAT bad..."
Since then, her comments have been rather limited. She likes to rub my head, and she notices and comments when I miss a shave. If someone else asks, "Why does he shave his head like that?", she replies, "Because he likes to."
In all, it just has not been an issue for her, one way or the other.

I just did it, and "She Who Must Be Obeyed" hated it :Xo! :Xo! :Xo! then, and it will be 10 months this Tuesday, and she still hates it :Xo! :Xo! :Xo!. Starting next Sunday, I'm letting it grow out at my daughter's request for her wedding in October. My fondest hope, other than my daughter's happiness, is that the look of the MPB will bring them to their senses, gray hairs and all and they'll relent and let me take it off in a couple of weeks. Meantime, I'm getting all my hats out and ready.
-
If YOU want to shave your head, shave YOUR head. Women would rather be around a man who knows what he wants, does it, and doesn't give a sh*t (within reason) what other people think about it than a guy who is constantly seeking permission. It's not like you're taking off to Vegas with the college fund or something.
The only discussion I had with my girlfriend before I did it was a text that said, "I think I'm going to shave my head tonight". She responded very negatively but I did it anyway and she absolutely hated it when she saw it. She said I looked like Lex Luthor. Basically I just asked her what she was going to do about it and she said "learn to love it". Now she says she can't imagine me with hair.
So there you go, really. Either she'll deal with it or she'll leave you and if she's going to leave you because of a haircut then she's probably not the type of person you'd want to spend the rest of your life with anyway.

Think that's a shame, that they can't accept YOU for who YOU are. Hope you come back slick and sly after the wedding. 8)

I would not grow it out even on a special request.

If I even get just a little stubble, my wife is like "You are going to shave that, right?"

She has been wanting me to shave it for quite a while. Now that I have actually done it

I think I first mentioned it to my gf a couple months after we got together. She said 'I'll make you wear a wig!!!' and various things of that nature haha which I thought was funny. What I didn't find funny is when I found out her ex shaved his head to join the army and she told me she refused to look at him. I thought that was abit over the top. I'm really not into vanity like that. But has to be said she's grown up alot lol. Lets just hope it wont interfere with us. We're SO much stronger than that I'd be VERY disappointed if she did.
Like someone on the forums said before 'if someone leaves you coz you're bald/head shaved then its not really a person you want to spend the rest of your life with' - FACT
-
wife was shocked & surprised at lst; wasnt crazy about it. Now she rubs it regularly.
I wish I had done it 15 years ago like Bald Andre.
-
I always talked about doing it, looking at my dad's balding head, I know what awaits me down the road, so I always said I would do it before then so I could warm up to it and it would be my choice. My wife thought I would never do it until one day she told me I needed a hair cut, my hair was in my eyes, so I went to the bathroom and buzzed it all off with a #3. She liked it. After that I kept it up going until I was buzzing without a razor and she finally said I might as well take it all off, she was and is totally supportive, she's even into spotting sly guys in public and on tv.
-
My wife actually prefers the stubbled, close buzz look, which I had before going sly last year. So, I am currently in buzz mode.
I am keeping it similar to Jason Statham, who had a look I always liked.
I first got the bug to buzz it all down a couple of years ago, when I saw him on the cover of my men's health magazine.
Then I saw the Transporter, and that sealed the deal. What a badass! O0

Heh, my partner is the same way. So in the summer I'm truly sly, but in the cooler weather (well, as cool as it gets in central TX) I do the no-guard buzz.
-
My wife is just the opposite because when I kept it buzzed she had to do it.... ;D.....now that I keep it shaved she makes me do it myself.... :-\

My wife married me as a Sly guy and I was Sly even when we were dating, so I can't give her initial reaction, but I thought I'd share part of a conversation we had in the car the other day, that I thought was just too cool. I was talking about some of the things I'd read here on the SBG forums and was talking about the thread that asked "If there was a pill you could take that would instantly restore all your hair, would you take it?" and before I could tell her what I said she turned to me with a scowl on her face and said "You had better NOT ever take a pill like that!!" :*)) :*)) :*)) O0 O0 O0
-
My wife knew I was going to shave. My hair was steadily turning loose and both of us really don't like the half-moon look.

That's awesome Iron Horse!
-
My wife didn't' like it; however she says a lot of other people do .. so whatever!
-
My GF did not like it at first, but after taking a hiatus from shaving and coming back she seems to like it. However, she wants it to be smooth all the time, so I do get complaints on my non-shave days about the sandpaper-esque quality my head takes on.
-
Having went sly two days ago, I can say my wife if is in the denial stage. I think she's having trouble shaking the usual bald stereotype out of her head: a bald guy with a goatee must be a murderer. She hasn't told me specifically that she hates it, but she has said she doesn't "have her James anymore," which means she doesn't think I'm cute like I used to be.
But truth be told, I kind of like not being regarded as cute anymore. One coworker yesterday (my first day on the job being Sly) said I looked tough. Another said "distinguished." Those adjectives have never been used in conjunction with my name before! So I like the change!
I hope that as my wife sees the reaction of others, she'll come around. I also can't wait for the next time I see her family. I think some of them will like it, and make it easier for her to like it too.
-
howdy, new york here. went thru the same thing with the "tired of cuteness" look. Youll get used to it and so will your wife.

Its been almost one week, and my wife is starting to come around. She's told me she's getting used to it, and she's starting to hear positive feedback from others, so I think everything will be alright.
And I still love it. Glad I did it. Now I'm thinking about shaving everyday and getting some shades (sunglasses never looked good on me before). This really is a lifestyle, isn't it?
-
Congrats slickjay, looks like clear sailing ahead for you now !! Glad your wife is coming around...it helps to keep the little woman happy.... O0
-
This really is a lifestyle, isn't it?
Without a doubt..you got it! O0
-
Yes it is a total lifestyle. Glad your wife is coming around. Looks like things are going your way for now.
-
This really is a lifestyle, isn't it?
Yep Slickjay, I'm just now realizing that this a lifestyle too. After just a couple of weeks in the Kingdom of Slydom, I'm finding it's changed not only my appearance, but also how I feel about myself. The increased self-confidence is incredible.
A lifestyle question to all you long-time sly'ers: Do you remain active on SBG because of your bald head, or because of the wackos friends you've met here?
