I just wanted to thank all the members of Sly for their valuable posts.
A little background:
I am an Indian kid from LA who from knew from a very young age that he was going to be bald. All the males in our family are bald and I knew it would happen to me. I just did not realize how soon it would happen. In about 12th grade i started to thin, and throughout college I started losing hair. I used every medicine under the sun - Rogaine, Propecia and even some concoctions that my grandmother recommended.
I actually did not mind the hair loss - it was that my friends constantly went out of there way to point it out - and that really bothered me and it started to affect me. I started rocking alot more bball caps wherever i went and became more self conscious. My game with the ladies started to fade and I felt insecure whenever i did not have a hat on, and consequently i started drinking more at the bars (it was the only way I could go up to girls). I really lost a step and felt like a second class male.
In any case, I started to think about shaving whatever was left but was scared primarily of what my family would say. Usually, indians only shave their head when their father pass, so i thought my parents would be pissed about this omen. And despite what people say, indians are the most vain people in the world and put so much focus on looks (sh*t, they use a skin whitening creme to appear more fair)
I never thought about grafts because i have seen those guys who still have plugs at their hairline despite the rest of their head being bald, and i thought they looked like fools.
In any case, I began to consider it after getting laid off and my sisters wedding - i felt this would be a good time to try it out. however, every time i went to the barber, i chickened out and would get my hair cut trim, which really accentuated how bald i was going.
I came across this site last week and was amazed. I was blown away by all the positive feedback and support the members had for anyone considering going sly. I could relate to all the posts and alot of concerns and feelings others had about going sly - the responses and the posts that the members wrote really helped me get through my issues.
On Tuesday, I finally went to a new barber and told him to shave it. I took off my glasses so i could not see , and then he went to work. He said going sly right away might be too drastic for me, so we went zero everywhere. Honestly, when I put my glasses on, I really liked my new look. More than that, I finally felt that I was back IN CONTROL - it was a very liberating moment.
I went out with my crew that night and everyone said my new look was awesome and that they were all happy I did it. They said my old balding look, hair on the sides, made me look much much older.
Anyhow i rolled home to LA this wknd, and I was surprised how enthusiastic my parents were. Even my grandmother thought it was a good look .
I really want to thank all of you guys for the help. You guys are really providing a positive voice and a positive influence in what is a very hard experience and hard realization process. I can honestly say that I would not have gone through this change if i did not see how happy you all are with your sly look - you all made me realize that you can be more a pimp by being sly and most imptly that "its just hair"
thanks again.

Great story OG, I was like you at first. A ballcap man. For a couple years I wouldn't go out in public without one. Eventually I went with a "hair system" believe me, you made the right choice. No sense wasting your cash on something that’s just going to make you feel as self conscience as if you were just bald (is it on right? is there a hump in the back? is the glue going to hold? Is the wind going to mess it up?) I feel like a new person since visiting this site. No lie.
Welcome!

Hey, great introduction, OG. Welcome to the site. I really suggest you try going smooth bald. Check out the forums for some tips. It's really easy for most men, and I actually enjoy the ritual. Plus I feel great when I am bald. My confidence sky-rockets, and nothing anyone says anymore can bother me.
A balding friend keeps saying my head looks like his balls after a vasectomy. But it's like he's on crack if he thinks he's better of than me because he's trying to hold onto something he's losing. I'm not rude...but I feel bad for him when he makes the cracks. And others do too!
Anyway, post a picture or two man. I am sure many people would also like to see a before and after (you can check my intro thread to see mine.) I'm very glad to hear you have found success by taking control of the situation. Enjoy your newfound freedom, brother.
