Hard Rock throughout the 80's (still am), though in the late 80's (post college) I was getting into jazz.
As I've posted in other musical threads, a band I truly love is The Rippingtons. The attached is a "video" for the song Los Cabos (hard to call it a video since it's just a still shot of the Arches in Los Cabos). This song is one of my favorite by the Ripps from the 1987 alubm Kilimanjaro. FYI, for all you geography snobs, please....I'm aware Kilimanjaro is in Tanzania.

I liked the 80's
Bikes, beer, R&B (when that stood for Rythm and Blues)
Slightly marred by Beelzebub's little sister (my first wife).
This song:

Hey RazorX, as I said to FR8TRAIN, I stand corrected!!!
This is no big deal, but I noticed that Jimmy Buffet, Fred Campbell and George Jones pop-up during my searches... do you by any chance know who does that version of the song. Only reason, I do some D.J.'ing on the side and I don't want to look like an "a$$hole" (which I have clearly done-did hear) giving out the wrong info. ??? :-[ ???
Thanx partner!!

Both "Gloria" and "Total Eclipse of the heart" are 80's "Classics"! Not good, in the long view, and certainly, any and all "live" TV appearances from the 80's were lip synched, but good songs, none the less... at least by 80's standards. ;)
Living Colour was an amazing band and Vernon Reid, was among the best guitarists playing in the 80's. That solo is STILL amazing! This is one of the FEW songs I'll actually DO at a karaoke night (ssshhh.. thats a secret)!

Speaking of 80's hits... from his NEW album "Carry on", here's Chris Cornell (Formerly of Soundgarden & Audioslave) covering Micheal Jacksons 1983 hit Billie Jean...
http://www.youtube.com/v/kS5C2Dr8jk0&hl
Sweet Jeebus I loves me some cover songs...
-
Yeah, Cornell has a great voice (when he even has his voice) and is a very interesting composer. I read that some dude on american idol copied Cornell's arrangement of Billy Jean and they gave him credit for originality. heh Not that I care what happens on american idol.
Ah...bald and bearded bassist. He's like me! ;P

This should be posted in the guilty pleasures thread, but since a few years ago, I watch American Idol religiously. I'm a huge music fan, and the indie music scene gets most of my support, but I enjoy watching the performances, especially when they get large symphonic bands to back up.
But agreed, I was disappointed that he originally took credit for the arrangement of Billy Jean.
....well, off to hammer up some dry wall, drink beer, and watch football.

AH, the 80's. Big hair, Shoulder pads, women wearing ties (which I hated) and cheesy music and sitcoms.

Chessy music????? :Xo!... dude, waz-up... that's everything after the 70's (which I like, not all, but some), and the 90's (before this new hip-hop/r&b/rap/W.T.F were-they-thinking-type-of-s#@t came out.
Chessy music? Them's is fightin' words :x! ;) :x! ;)

When I was in my teens in the 80's I knew every word to every song and thought I had it made. You look back on it now and it's like OMG! I listened to that!? :*))

Don't we all go through that? :) I hear you though, I felt the same way.
I do DJ'ing on the side and have a huge collection of music... a large portion is 80's, anything from: electric/funk/punk/disco/freestyle/r&b/rap/rock-a-billy/house/techno/lounge... let me tell you brotha, the 80's were much more than spiky hair, shoulder pads, fluorescent clothes, hair spray, footsies (know what those were?), cowboy boots with silver-tips (no, I never owned any), flat-tops (for those of us that had hair, back-in-the-days), .... the list just goes on.
Feel free to add any 80's memories to the list.

Women wearing ties was bad, but the rest was GOOD? haha I would have to say that style-wise there wasn't really a whole lot I would say was good. Funny how we always look back at the cool trends of former decades and laugh. I'm already laughing at the emo/indie look of today.

If you look over the years, a bald head has always been classic. It just IS. You can only have one type of BALD, so there's no other way of doing it.

Of course I still love Bon Jovi, Guns 'n Roses and Def Leppard
Signs, signs, everywhere there's signs!
