Title: What do you do to unwind?
Post by: MagmaBabe on July 31, 2008, 12:57:22 PM
I know some of you have a real stressful life.. work/family etc... but what is it you do to take time out
and relax?

I like to take my Golden Retriever for a walk to Starbucks.  Then we sit out front, he with his Grande Water and me with an iced Vente Latte followed by a leisurely stroll back home.  :)

Damn dog though, he's a chick magnet!  :*))

Hmmm, well, I just put a 2-4 in the fridge and bought some steaks from the farmers market.  Going to just sit back, have some beer, cook up those steaks and kick back for the next few weeks...  but even doing that just on a day after coming back from a long day is great to relax too!

A bottle of Napa's finest, 2 glasses (I hate to drink alone), a little music (Jazz, Classical or some 70's) and chill in the garden with some hors d’oeuvres. Man that sound good right now!!!!

The list is extensive - does that mean that I'm mega-stressed and up-tight,  or ultra-laid back and mellow.
Ride my bike - sometimes short distances, sometimes just point it at the horizon and go, take a sleeping bag and get really lost and sleep under the stars (not so good in typical English weather)
Run
Beat up on the punch bag until I can't stand without wobbling
Walk the dog, but he's a lazy lump so we never get far
Tidy up the garage -  there's something about a well cared for tool
Listen to loud music (often while doing any of the above)
Read books
Drink whisky
Watch old Red Dwarf episodes

Working 3rd shift and from home.....I live in an almost constant state of relaxation and rarely have to unwind.
I usually have to plan exciting things and get out and walk daily or I'd snap from being so unwound.   :-\

Fishing pretty exciting but relaxing at the same time.
I usually go fishing a few times a month (even though I rarely catch anything except a beer buzz)

what do I do to unwind??  Well i start by taking a rope down at my feet, wrap it up all the way around and up my body to my shoulders.  I tie the end of the rope to the bed post and I jump out the bedroom window.  When I get to the end of the rope I go THUG! right on the ground.  THen I can stand up because I have been unwinding and unwinding ,  round and round.  All the while the dog just sits there and looks at me like an idiot...lol

My favorite way to unwind is to go hiking for awhile.  Gets me away from everything and everybody, I even make sure I leave the phone in the car.

Oddly enough, I work to unwind ...

We're in the process of packing our house in prep to move out 8/20 (and into the Marriot temporarily) and I was getting all stressed out about that.  So, I went upstairs and got into some heavy software development for an hour, and that did the trick.   O0

Usually unwind by riding my motorcycle or sitting in the woods (hunting or not).   Need to let off steam then it's on the dirtbike or a good walk or run.

I do many things to unwind depending on what I need to unwind from.

A bad day at work I'll go for a ride or walk to the top of the mountain and just sit for awhile.

A long day of haying or butchering or any farm work I'll go for a bike ride, go swimming at the creek, or go to the neighbors and have a beer or three.

After a long drive from the coast or some other place with the family for 6-8 hours I'll go out to the big tree in the pasture and just lay down in the cool grass.

Other times I'll drive or listen to some old country music. In the winter sometimes I bake alot, last winter I baked cookies and such for a whole week it seemed but I loved it and thr results were very good.

I find that a nice Slow shave after work relaxes me for the rest of the evening.

Also a Saturday afternoon sailing works worders at relieving a weeks worth of stress.

For me, complete relaxation is sleeping. Anything less than that is still activity.

But if I'm laying low (short of sleeping), I'll usually be laying on the couch watching sports or at one my kids' sporting events.
Win, Lose, or Draw, I feel a tremendous sense of pride watching Nicole or Alex in sports. Sorry if this sounds egotistical, but they are both one the better players on their respective teams. I'm guessing they get that from The Lovely Mrs. Schro.

Great topic.
I like to unwind playing basketball, working out, hitting the speedbag, hiking.
If I dont feel like getting physical I like to BBQ with friends/family...I love to be out in the sun
and just chill with a cool drink. Maybe play some catch...football or baseball.

If I could do it at the end of every day, I would be watching the sunset from the Kona side of the Big Island.

But while back home, to really unwind, I go down to Flathead Lake.

(https://www.slybaldguys.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi156.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ft33%2FJB59901%2F000_0268.jpg&hash=dbb74c4b4f5a6b283523e34e412dca1acb42b29d)

Yep, I like sunsets and sunrise as it is very quiet and one can reflect back on many things.

I like to read (reading The Silmarillion right now), draw/paint, play some bass guitar or acoustic guitar, play some Lord of the Rings Online,  come to a few forums and chat it up, watch some old shows that my memory tells me were good (but they aren't actually good)...I tend to be solitary when I need to unwind. I enjoy people and I LOVE to talk and tell stories, but I cannot survive without some time to do nothing.

I also like taking a walk with my puppy. VERY relaxing. But, I don't really lead a stressful life. So I don't actually have any reason to do so much relaxing, except that I WANT to and I have no one in my life to tell me not to. haha

I  can think of stranger things. I love to read as well, but I read very slowly...and I actually say every word in my head as though I was speaking out loud. So I almost do the same thing. In fact, I am typing at the same speed I talk...and saying each word in my head as I type...I could probably type faster, only I can't think faster. hahaha Now I sound stupid. Oh well.
