Title: i have razor bumps all over..need serious help
Post by: fbdedicate83 on July 29, 2008, 03:22:06 PM
ok about a couple of weeks ago, i shaved my head for the third time in my life. the first two times i didnt really know what i was doing and i gave up after a week or so both times. this time this were going pretty good the first few days, but as time went on i started to develop bumps all over my head. im currently using headblade and headslick.

im just wondering should i let my bumps go away and no shave for a couple of days, or just keep shaving and hope my head gets used to it.

-im black by the way if that helps...ill post pics soon

Welcome to the forum fb.   I would give the old dome a rest for a few days and spend some time reading the various threads here on Headshaving.   It would help if you told us your specific shaving routine too.

thanks alot guys. well my shaving routine is this.

i would first take a shower which by itself would give my dome water it needs. then i would put the headslick on and go against the grain with my headblade. i have a few stubborn stubbles though so i tend to go over the same spot over and over again(the spot is on the top of my head). after that i would rub ice on my head for a while(just started picking that habit up from this site...but the bumps were already there when i started doing that. after that though i put on aftershave i got from cvs(dont have the name of it).

but another question i have is should i still put the aftershave daily even if im not shaving just to get rid of the bumps?

How about shaving WITH the grain first and THEN against the grain?  This may eliminate some of the irritation.  Don't forget a very cold water rinse to close the pores afterwards and then apply Aloe Vera gel or maybe Bump Patrol to get rid of that irritation.

that seems like a good idea...but i seem to like a razor more than headblade itself..seem to get a better shave. would you recommend any razors in particular?

I am a headblader and use the Mach 3 for touch up.   Don't just take my word for it though.  Check up in the HeadShaving section and read up on what everyone has tried and see if anything fits in close to what you like or prefer to use.

I'm having the same problem. I'd love to see a solution or i'm going to have to let my hair grow back. It's discusting and my head has never been cleaner in my life.

I had the same issue, but mostly at the lower back of my head.
I started using Nivea for Men Extreme Comfort Post Shave Balm a week or so ago and it seems to have helped alot... I can't be positve it was solely the post shave balm because at the same time I stopped using witch hazel...
But its worth a try.

Hope that help!

When I first started shaving this was a fairly regular occurrance for me.  But as time went on and my skin got conditioned I had fewer and fewer problems.   Hang in there, try doing the Witch Hazel applications and cold water after shaving and it should diminish.

ok fbdedicate... Im assuming that you shave straight backward with the headblade, which is not what your need to do. What you need to do is, leave your head alone for a little while to give the razor bumps time to dissipate. After you do that, I suggest that you quit using the headblade for a little while until you know what your doing. Since Im also succeptable to razor bumps I can tell you that what you need to do is shave your head with the grain. That would be forward for the front of your head, backward for the back and straight down for the sides of your head... do not, I repeat do not shave your head against the grain. Once you get a good shave this way if you want your head slicker than you can go over it sideways across the grain. However never shave against the grain if your prone to razor bumps.

lil very good advice brother, fb you said you were black, that might be part of your situation. Black men have problems shaving due to your hair folical configuration.

Like lil said try going with the grain at first for awhile to get used to it then go across for awhile then you might be able to go against the grain at some time in the future

Ok....STYPTIC pencils rock. Here's a before and after from today of the top of my head.  Before was this morning and after was right after i shaved (with a blade in the shower) then used a styptic pencil to "seal" up the bump spots that are clearing up and get cut a little when i'm shaving.  OH BTW I have been using the Bald Guyz products and they are helping tremendously with the bump issues.
