Title: Headblade newbie
Post by: jhickman on July 26, 2008, 11:49:39 AM
So I picked up a Headblade the other day and must say it's much more difficult to shave with, though I must say it's an incredible shave.  Better than with my Mach 3.

How long did it take you guys to adjust to your Headblade?  Or did you always start with one?

It takes about 5 to 10 shaves to get used to it, but once you do, you'll never go back.

Hey J, I started out with a Shick Extreme 3 then swithed to a HB. Like you, I got a great shave right off the bat. Start slow and as you use it you will get the hang of it. The MOST important thing that I can tell you is DON"T PUT ANY PRESSURE ON THE BLADE!!! All pressure should be on the back of the HB. You will always get the very best shave this way. If you put any pressure on the blade you WILL carve a chunk outta your noggin.

Glad you like it. Stick with it and it will cut your shave time down. O0

Hey J, I started with the HB and I haven't looked back. It definitely gives you a great shave and is most convenient to use. There is the adjustment period like Tyler said, about 5-10 days or a couple of weeks, depending on your frequency of shaving.

If you stick with it and go easy, you will find it becomes very natural. What I think the problem for guys who give up on it is that they must have put some pressure on the blade end, dug in and kept on going.
One thing you have to do when you dig in, or stall, is stop the stroke and start over, making sure you have all pressure on the back end of the HB (wheels if sport). If you just keep plowing away, then you're going to take some chunks out for sure.

Once you get used to it, shaving is a breeze. I believe all my fellow HB'ers will attest.

Stick with it, and good luck!

It took awhile for me too, J.    Got a few good nicks and cuts along the way but now couldn't be without it.   Seems to really shave the curves and crown of the dome the best, at least for me.

HeadBladers are the truly gifted ones... just kidding.  You do need to give it some time, but if you get the hang of it, you'll never look back.  I'm just glad I took to it right away.

Hey JHickman, glad you picked one up! Give it a few tries and you'll have it down in no time.

For me, I used it right off the bat, so I didn't have to break any of the conventional shaving habits. Here's a tip tho, for the sides of your head, take horizontal strokes, it really works well and isnt as awkward as trying go vertical.

Like the others have said, try not to apply pressure on the blade, and just use long and slow strokes. You'll be a pro in no time at it!
