Title: Any other chicas around?
Post by: chica on July 18, 2008, 01:52:16 PM
Hey, all—

I actually landed here because I was shopping for clipper advice. I'm a buzzer (no guard!), not a shaver, and I have burned out my second Wahl HomePro clipper, so I was thinking I'd invest a bit more in the next set and was hoping to find a thread on the site about recommended models—you know, reviews written by folks who buzz their heads a couple times a week, not moms who run kitchen beauty salons. ;)

But then I saw you had a women's corner and got all distracted. Whee! This is exciting—even if it looks like the most recent posts from buzzed or shaved women are from at least a few months back. Are any other women still about to make a buzzed chica feel less lonely in her preferred personal aesthetic? (It's also gratifying to see the sly guys giving positive props to the bald ladies; man, there aren't enough of you independent thinkers out there!)

Hey Chica, I'm not a chica, but as far as a solid pair of clippers to cut your hair, Wahl is pretty solid. Check out Andis, as well. They make good one. Andis T Liners are great for a close buzz.

Hey Chica,

No, not a chica either, another gringo here.  I've been using my Oster A5s for over twenty years.  You can buy the A5 or Oster 76 for ~$125 and up.  When I buzzed my head I used the Oster 000 or Oster 0000 blades.

These clippers are commercial quality and will last a very long time.

Awesome, thanks for the advice, guys. I don't even have to cross-post my clipper question to the appropriate forum!

Hola Chica, just another Gringo cara palida here!  Welcome to the site.

I don't know what others here think, but when I was buzzing, I used the Conair clippers.  I never spent more than $25 for them and a pair would last anywhere from a year and a half to 2 years.  I still use them once a week on the goatee.  If you make sure you clean them completely and lubricate the blades they should last a long time, and I don't mean just brushing off the hair, I mean actually pullimg off the two screws on the blade and cleaning the head completely.

Anyway, good luck with that and post up some pics if you can!

Jer, good point about cleaning the clippers. I clean my clippers with a spray duster, it really gets in there and blows out all those small hairs. I use it on my electric as well before I put it in the cleaning station (Braun 360)

Oh, cleaning!

It is true, I have only brushed and wiped and oiled my clippers, never taken them apart. I'll do better on the maintenance with the next set!

OK, have added avatar. I almost want to apologize for how much hair I have in the pic; I'm sporting a few days' growth in it, but my expression seems suitably sly for the purpose of this site, so I'm going with it.

Welcome Chica!!!  Glad you found us.  I suggest trying the professional route.  Go to a beauty supply company and buy what the pros use.  Cleaning is necessary either way you go.

Please stick around and join in.  We always welcome the female input.

The Andis trimmers are really great for getting a very close buzz. Just reaffirming what was already said about them. I use one on my beard.

OK, per multiple suggestions here, I narrowed it down to the Oster 76 or the Andis Master Clippers. I decided to go with the Andis clippers mostly because I have small girlie hands and was concerned the monster Oster clippers might be a little difficult to manipulate for self-barbering. I ordered them this morning and can't wait to get them in the mail! (I was tempted to order the optional 00000 blade for an extra-close scalping while I was at it, but I'll see how it goes with the 000 blade that's included!) Woo-hoo, I'm finally getting clippers worth getting excited about!

The Andis clippers look like a good choice.  I'll admit the Oster clippers are big and heavy and can be unwieldy for buzzing your own head.  Give us a review after you've used the Andis clippers.

Ah, they're awesome. They feel awfully different in the hand than the drugstore clippers I've owned prior. They have just the right amount of heft without being overly fatiguing to my hand, they don't run too hot too quickly, and they really cut like a professional salon model—which I guess they are! And the included blade even cuts a bit closer than my old Wahl clippers. Home run. :)

Anybody need a haircut? No, I guess not around these parts, huh…

I missed my calling; I think I should have been a barber!

I have always thought that the bald look on a woman is adorable.
I have longed to meet a woman who loves bald men,and likes to be bald, hopefully
that will happen one day.

A barber for the military, maybe. I don't think most haircuts consist of taking it all off.
